100% Juice. Is It Really That Hard to Remember?

We really don't drink juice in our family. The boyz are starting to appreciate the occasional juice box, which is really nice in the car. But for the most part it's milk or water.

I'm watching my nieces this week (my brother's away for the Army), and it is so hard to get them to drink anything. They do drink juice, so juice it is. I sent my husband to the store last night, and he came back with a juice coctail, 15% juice, not 100%. In the grand scheme of things, not that big a deal. But really, how many times do I need to remind him?

Ok, silly vent over. Anyone else want to vent about something this morning?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

This is honestly not that big a deal and really not in the grand scheme of things. It was just mildly annoying. It was one of those times when he was helping me out because I was short on time. He didn't get exactly what i wanted, but he was really trying. It's really my fault for not being very specific. He did get the right flavor, after all :-)

Meh...keep it in perspective. It's O. bottle of juice...not a lifetime supply. I'd dilute it as well.

My gripe is that for my last 3 pregnancies, my husband has suddenly decided that he NEEDS to change jobs. Right in the middle of kthe pregnancy, he will just up and decide that he hates his job, can stand it no more, and he starts interviewing and job-hunting. This is after we have saved vacation days at the current job to ensure appropriate leave for when the new baby comes, and we are confident there will be no issues getting the time off and paid. I have explained to him that it causes me so much anxiety when he does this, and can't he just sit tight for 16 more weeks until this baby comes? Nobody I know LOVES their job, so suck it up buddy.

yes, i have a vent. The check engine light came on in the car on the way home 2 days ago. I said - "sweetie, how long has that light been coming on? We need to stop at autozone and have that checked" He said, "I'm sure it's nothing major." I said "still, you should get that checked before you do anything else, just to be sure" Did he? no. And he drove it to work yesterday and never had it checked. So, guess what, now it's making a noise. And you know what the @sswipe had the nerve to say to me....."I'm sure it's nothing major." arrrrrgggggghhhhhh I could just strangle him!

YES!!
My exhusband FOUGHT for 50% custody (and fought reeeeeaally dirty)).

So now:

- He doesn't want to buy school supplies
- doesn't want to buy kiddos meds
- doesn't want to buy kiddo new clothes
- et
He thinks those things (and others) should still be my 'job'

Hey, buckwheat! You wanted 50% custody, that means $100 a month on meds (they cost 200-300 a month), bought him clothes do big (and only 3 things) they have to be strapped on with belts and pins or so small that kiddos belly hangs over, and kept his jacket at his house.

Grrrrrr. So this is ALSO the man that wanted him in public school 'to make friends' (since kiddos 8 besties and 15 close friends isnt enough) and sent him to his first day of school looking fat, poor, and stinky (sour laundry).

Oh. I'm a student. TINY income in loans. Dude makes a quarter million (come to find).

Grrrrrr....

I am lucky in that my husband is very dilligent about making sure the kids only get 100% juice with no added sugar. He is a doctor, and to him, sugar is the devil.

But, he does drive me insane when I am trying to get the kids ready for bed and he starts wrestling with them. Gets them all wound up and crazy and makes it really tough to get them to sleep after that. Grrrr! I am so sleepy!

My gripe -- Last night my hubbie told me he couldn't look at something outside because he didn't have his shoes on, and apparently slipping on his flip flops was too much exertion. I had to convince him. Yeash.

If I send hubbie to the store, he will pick the cheapest brand, unless I tell him specifically what I need. I've spent some quality time in the juice isle trying to find the healthiest option - in flavors my kids like, so I can kind of sympathize with your husband if he's not used to doing the shopping....

For guys you have to give them a name. If you had said 'Minute Maid Apple Juice' or any flavor of Juicy Juice, he would've probably gotten it correct. To just say get something that is 100% juice, to him a bottle of juice is 100% juice.

I will let you know when you have to stop reminding when my husband figures it out. It has been four years since we had our daughter, and he will still come home with "Juice cocktail" from time to time. I know what you mean about it being mildly annoying. It has gotten to the point that I try not to send my husband to the store anymore, and just go myself, but if I do have to have him pick something up, I give him specific brands, flavors, sizes, etc. I remember one time I asked him to grab a container of Heavy whipping cream, and he brought me back half and half.

That is why I often go to the grocery store - I have certain brands in mind that I want to buy for the kids and if I don't write them down specifically, he will buy whatever he wants/sees and it would probably end up being the 15% juice. LOL

What about getting them flavored water or the water capri suns? They also have capri suns that are 3/4 full serving of fruits and 1/4 full serving of veggies. Or serve them V8 Fusion - if they complain - tell them it's that or water or milk!

We are not a huge juice family either but we do always have juice boxes since my husband is a type 1 diabetic and needs the occasional quick sugar. Although I do have to say that milk is also very high in sugar if you look at it. but with that aside my vent is:

Two nights ago my kids went and spent the night with their cousins (we are going away for the weekend and I like to clean the house so we come back to a clean house and he knows how important this is to me) he has the day off so he got to sleep in while I went to work. Have the entire house all to himself, then went and played golf and didnt get home until about 10pm. So I went to work and I got home and not even the dishes were done nothing! So I ended up staying up cleaning what I could, still have about half to go and he also has today off and knows im mad so we will see what is done when I get home. Probably not much.

I would take it back and exchange it. It is flavored sugar water. You do not want your kids to drink it anymore than you want to serve it to the other kids. I would do the shopping for some items since he has shown he really has no idea what juice is juice. He most likely grew up drinking these drinks and thinks they are the healthy stuff. I drank Welchs grape flavored drinks growing up and had no idea they were, like you said, about 15% real juice. I thought they were healthy and that is what I picked out when I shopped.

A serving of 100% juice is between 4oz and 8oz per day. No matter what they want you should allow them juice then offer them water or milk. If they are thirsty and see your family drinking water they might follow the leader...lol.

If they just refuse to drink anything else then I would allow it. I do not have a big opposition to juice like some moms do. If it is 100% I think a bit more is not unhealthy. My kids never drank more that 12oz per day though.
