My son has acid reflux and we can't get a handle on his spitting up. Our other son had this problem we were able to manage it with formula (and adding rice cereal to the formula) and medicine (Bethanechol and Prevacid. None of these things are working for our second one. Any other suggestions?

My son had acid reflux really bad when he was a infant and we raised one end of his crib mattress up, like a wedge this helped some. also after feeding him we would let him sit still in a bouncer or slightly reclined position to help his reflux.

A girlfriend of mine had the same thing happen with her daughter. Once she started eating baby food she slowly stopped. She too tried all the meds, and they didn't help her baby either. Hopefully it will just get better.

Have you tried Colic Ease? It is a special herbal suppliemtn designed for babies with Acid Reflux. We have had a lot of success with it. You can read about it on our website: www.thebreastfeedingshoppe.com. Hope this helps. I believe that last time we checked, we were the only place to buy it in the Houston are. You can also go to www.colicease.com and read about it.

Hope this helps!

Have you tried changing formula's? I hear Nestle Good Start is great GERD. Has your baby been diagnosed with GERD? Your pedatrician should refer you to a gastroentrologist. Dr. Ibarguen I hear is good. He is in San Antonio.

Hey A. -

Isn't that frustrating? We tried 5 or 6 different formulas (include Enfamil AR, the nasty Aliminum (sp?), and nestle good start). We finally started using Prosobee (soy) and the 'ready made' formula at that. It seems to be thicker than the powder/water concoction. Our daughter is almost 10 months. She is on prevacid and reglan, but we are weaning her slowly. That formula seemed to help quite a bit. Good luck!!!!

I know exactly how you feel! My 8 month old daughter had reflux untill now. The only thing that would help (not stop) the spit up was to keep her upright for 20-30 min after they eat. Other than that, buy extra bibs!!! Good luck!

OKay write this down - Baby Bliss Gripe Water. It is miraculous with acid reflux, and all natural. Both of my children had acid reflux and were on both medications you mentioned and more - and then one day a nurse told me about it and we tried it and that was the end of teh medicine and ultimately the reflux. You can check it out online and get it at high-end drugstores - Tanglewood Pharmacey carries it.

Get an allergy work up done on your son..if he is allergic to soy or dairy, his intestinal track will remain irritated. A good clue for allergies is if your child is itchy, or has a lot of ear wax, or mucous/spit up/nose drainage. If allergies, ask about a medicine call sodium cromulyn, a liquid the child drinks, which can help ease the irritation of the intestinal track. Get a probiotic into your son, check kirkman labratories on the web for some of their things, and check into goats milk for your child----sounds yucky, but many children who have problems with reflux etc have success with goats milk.

My son has GERD and they only thing that helped us was putting him on Lactose free formula. Now the only time he really spits up is when he over eats. We have also been able to take him off his medicine almost completely. (He was taking Zantac, around .5 - 1 ml twice a day)

We had the same problem with my son who is fixing to be 9 months old. We went through several med and dosage changes before we got a fairly good handle on it but he still continues to throw up from time to time. We were on Reglan and Previcid until he was about 71/2 months old then we cut the meds all together because he was doing much better. We also continue to use Enfimil AR formula which is a rice formula. It is very thick and requires a different nipple for the bottle in order for it to come out. Good Luck. Sometimes all you can do is wait it out. Our son starting getting better when solids were introduced, but like I said he still throws up a couple times a day it is just no longer constant after every feeding.

First let me say I feel your pain. My son went through SO MANY prescriptions with basically no luck. The best thing we ever did was switch to Dr. Brown's bottles. They're a little more expensive & a little more work, but believe me it was worth it for my son (not to mention I got to stop wearing spit up all the time). They're at most department stores & if I remember correctly I got them for cheaper at Burlington's. Also, there is hope. Once my son got off formula it ended. And once they start getting active it usually reduces quiet a bit. Hope this helps & good luck!
