Try Proactiv. It works wonders. I have been to the dermatologist several times and my system cannot handle the antibiotics. I find the mask makes new acne disappear fast.

I had success when I stopped eating sugar! Not just candy/cookies, etc, but also hidden sugar in more processed foods and simple starches like white flour and white rice(that your body metabolizes like sugar). Good luck!

Yes and I am really annoyed by it. Before I got married I tried Proactive to help prevent any imperfections on my wedding day. The stuff is awesome. Really. It made my skin even more flawless. I had 2 chicken pox scars on my face (that I had for 20 years) and the Proactive had practically eliminated one of them. The other scar is too close to my eye to use it there.

It made my pores smaller and prevented breakouts. They even have a body solution that helps for pimples in other areas.

I am getting close to starting it again because I am so frustrated with my skin. HTH!

i would say the problem is (and i must quote everyone) "having a girl STEALS ALL your beauty causing those dark circles, acne, and sometimes even wrinkles" while i have no clue as to whether this is absolutely true or not...i have noticed that i've gotten much more acne now then i did in high school. i personally like to use rubbing alcohol. i know everyone will scream how it's harsh and ruins your face, but i'm italian so basically i'm a "grease-ball" lmao! so the rubbing alcohol doesn't do anything other then getting deep down into the pores and getting out all the dirt and grease. WHEN i find the time and actually get to do this regularly (once in morning, and once at night daily) my skin (face) becomes "as soft as a babies behind". IF you don't have oily skin, i would look into some of those facial scrubs and see if maybe those will help. good luck.

I am 44 and live in westchester and had some nagging acne as a kid -- and always had that red around the nose and breakouts that looked so beautiful and would take weeks to go away. I have no vested interest in this company, but I have been using Proactiv (yes, the tv stuff) for about 2 years -- maybe more and I have rare breakouts that go away over night with some miracle Proactiv spot lotion and their mask. I use the system everyday -- in the morning (I try to do it at night too, but sometime get lazy. It is amazing. No dry skin -- no peeling. I highly recommend it. Plus you can return if you dont like. If you need more info, write me back. I wish I could sell it actually because it has been a godsend. As a matter of fact, after my second son was born, I was breaking out more than ever and freaking out. So one night I saw the ad and took a chance. Best thing I ever did. Sorry I sound like an infomericial but it really works amazing.

I can certainly relate...It's awful, isn't it?? I have to tell you something I've figured out over the years. Wash your face with some sort of antibacterial soap (like Dial). After that use witch hazel as an astringent. Then take a little bit of neosporin cream and rub it in (replacement of zit cream). Then use a moisterizer that won't clog pores. It is my own home remedy, but it works like a charm. Proactive is also great if you don't mind putting out the money for it. Hope it works

Wow! Did I. I went to a dermatologist and got minimal results from EXPENSIVE prescriptions. He always figured it was due to hormonal changes since I didn't have it until after I had my baby. When he finally took blood work, my hormones were out of whack. Now I am in the process of trying to get them back on track. I definitely recommend bloodwork if you never had acne (other than when you were a teen). There could be something going on internally. Also, in the meantime, acne.org is a great site for suggestions, and I just started using a facewash and soap from Carley's Clean & Smooth (google it, you'll find lots of info). It's simple and inexpensive and my acne is improving steadily. I wish you the best as I know how embarrassing it is to have acne at our age!

A good cosmetic clay mix will employ all the best actions to your skin and disappears you acne instantly. It is very simple to make clay face mask as you need to mix just a spoon of clay with the water. Now, make sure that you put this paste on the affected area of your face and leave it until it dries completely. Once it is dried out totally, rinse it with cold water and you will be really stunning to watch clear beautiful skin on your face.

I am 24, never got acne as a teenager, but since I have had my daughter(she's 2 now) I always have a pimple on my face. It was the worst when I was prego, but it has never ended, I have no solutions, I have used alot of drugstore remedies, but nothing really made a huge difference, just dried my skin out, just wanted to let you know you are not alone. It must have done something to our hormones.

Hi K. -

I had some really bad, LARGE, acne last winter under my chin and neck area. I realized after talking to a friend that the winter had dried my skin out and was producing more oil to comensate and that was giving me these large blemishes.

My teenage son had started using a product called Zap-it (no benzoil peroxiode to dry the skin) and it cleared his acne in 3 days! I was amazed so I decided to give it a try. It worked! PLUS, I also started using a face moisturizer every day on my face and neck. No more painful large acne!

This Zap-It is amazing! It's from an wholesale shopping company that is wonderful. It only cost $15.99 for a 4 piece acne set, or you can purchase individual products (face wash, astringent, treatment cream and quick stick).

My husband kept trying to get me to purchase Pro Active, well I didnt want to spend that much money every 3 months so I am very happy I tried this natural alternative and saved the money.

It's pretty much the hormones still running wild in your body. My youngest is 11 and I still bawl at a sentimental commercial (ugh). This weather doesnt help either!

Best of Luck.

I used ProActiv for a long time and really liked it but developed an allergy to the Benzoyl Peroxide after a number of years. It is a great product but it was drying to my skin. I now use Aveda's Outer Peace line for acne and ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!! My face is so clear and SOFT, which was not the case with the proactiv. I use the foaming cleanser, acne relief pads, and the mask. Then I bought Aveda's Balancing Infusion salicylic acid acne treatment - it is an oil in a small brown bottle and is fantastic! There is also a lotion which is good, but I was again allergic to it, but found that I really don't need it. I also added Purpose moisturizer and Olay Night firming cream to it all, because the line really did not have a moisturizer. Hope this helps!

Hello K.,

I am 37 and I went through that a couple of years ago. I used Pro-active and it worked for me. Once I started the full kit, I noticed a difference in a few days. You should also get their daily face lotion as well.

Sounds gross, but egg yolk really works. Saw it in a "Dear Abby" column and it was touted as an India cure. All you have to do is to wash your face, then apply egg yolk...Let the egg yolk sit on your skin for 10 min. and wash it off with a non-oily face cleanser. There is actuall a scientific reason why egg yolk works....Egg yolk contains the same ingredients as retin A only it's more natural. It also contains Collegin.

I have also noticed this. I am 33 years old and just had my first child. I have not broken out yet on my face, but my upper arms / shoulders have broken out. I haven't asked my doctor about this yet, but I have just been lotioning them so I stop scratching.

Adult-onset acne is often not acne at all, but rosacea. You may want to see a dermatologist. If you do have rosacea, there are topical creams available by prescription that can help.

Try ProActive. It works for my daughter and I most of the time. When it doesn't work for me, I head to my dermatologist and get a prescription for minocyclin and whatever topical she recommends. This may be in your genes. My father had breakouts until he was 80 so I know I'll be using acne creams along with my anti-wrinkle creams for some time to come.

K.,

I just recently went through this. I've always had problem skin, but really bad since the birth of my second son. I'm 36 and this really worked for me. I started to use olive oil soap and a loofah on the advice of my facialist. It worked. Make sure the loofah is only used at night and let it dry in a clean space to avoid bacteria. Don't leave it in the shower. I also started using Nicomide which is a multivitamin my dermatologist prescribed. The first month and a half, I used it twice a day and then went down to once a day. Within 2 months, my skin totally changed and I am now cyst free which is great because they were the huge cysts. The vitamin is especially prescribed for people with problem skin. I think it has high doses of vitamin b complex and things like that. I've been battling this for 20 years and these two simple things changed my life. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hormones have a chain reaction like effect where one causes the next to become prevalent, which causes the next to be released or inhibited and so on. Your body performs a delicate dance trying to balance all of your "chemicals" constantly. That is why if one is off balance, it is likely to throw every other one off as well. If you haven't had a physical since the kids were born, it might be time to have one if only to get some blood work done to check your levels. I think testosterone & progesterone specifically cause the skin to release oil. In females a little testoterone is made by the adrenal glands, and progesterone is made in the ovary once you ovulate until you get your period, and sticks around if you are pg. Progesterone is also in the pill so if you are on that it could be the culprit too.
The oil, combined with bacteria, dirt etc. As an adult you may have something deeper going on if it's more than an occasional flare up.
Regardless, I am a strong believer in not spending a ton of money on name brand skin care products. The generic ones are pretty similar in composition. Salicylic acid will help remove the dead layer of skin cells that can clog pores. Also, a non-comedogenic moisturizer (make sure it says that) should help your skin feel better. You can absorb minute amounts of Vit A through your skin, but that's about it. Other vit's should be taken orally to be of any benefit. Vit E is an emollient, and can be good in moisturizers. You can overdose on vitamins believe it or not so never take more than the recommended daily amounts.
Also, beware of potential allergens in your skin care products. I recently found out that I am terribly allergic to chamomile! And wouldn't you know it's in everything! It's related to ragweed, sunflowers, safflower and several other flowers whose extracts are found in many beauty & cleaning products.
Products I like:
CVS brand non-comedogenic facial mousturizer- unscented. ($6)
CVS witch hazel & salicylic acid astringent ($6)(green bottle- looks like Biore)
Aveeno daily shimmer moisturizer w/ spf 15-30- $9
hope that helps :-)

Yes, acne comes with hormone changes. Visit www.grownupgirlfriends.com for more information on hormones and acne products in our skin care section - the new articles will be up this week!

You probably need a product change or a hormonal balance! Something you are not alone in dealing with....

Sounds like what happened to me. Acne is really a condition of the liver and/or bowels. Here's how I got rid of mine:

-used a probiotic superfood to balance my bowel flora: Inliven from www.goodskinforlife.com under health products. By the time you're done two containers (buy the CD under the tools section too) your bowels will be balanced BUT:
-avoid sugar and dairy
-did a heavy metal cleanse to remove mercury which is what keeps the bacteria out of balance and the body acidic. I used 10 drops of NCD for 8 weeks: www.ncdpro.com/detoxqueen (listen to the recording to learn more)
-I use only non-toxic skin care and found that after I did a white clay mask (Skinscents...same website as above) that my skin opened up and released the last of the deeply imbedded impurities and now my face is totally smooth and has been for a long time.

All the skin creams and lotions in the world are not getting to the root cause and while they may offer a temporary solution, the problem will always come back until you do the cleanse. I've tried tons of different skin products and most make me break out. The Skinscents line is very good. The Inliven site has skin care products but I found that they weren't the best for my particular face although some people rave about their results.

My phone number is on both websites. Feel free to call me if you have any further questions.

I had the same issue. If it is along your jaw line it might be a late age acne my dermatologist diagnosed me with. Typically it begins in the late 30's (mine started a little earlier) and large pimples develop along the jaw line and into the hairline and ears. See your dermatologist so you can get the correct medication.

- Time for yourself (if everyone can get away from you , you deserve to get away from them..)
- to make family time less stressful have a open diolouge on activities, try to do 1 thing from everyone.
See a dietitian or a dermatologist if do the basics doesn't help. Give it about a month!
