Ainsley Too Weird???

Love, love, the name Ainsley. It's not weird, but not common. It's one of those names that sounds cool and different and people won't say "Huh?!".

I like the name Ainsley - there is a little girl that goes to the dance school that we go to that has that name (the only one I've ever seen). And as far as being weird - have you seen some of the names that people come up with! I think Ainsely sounds fine.

And for a boy name, we have a friend that has a little boy named Braun. I think that one is really neat (it kind of grows on you!).

IF we ever have another baby and its a girl I love Kate (Katie). Also look up the name and find the meaning. Suppossibly your baby's name is already chosen for him/her. I would say if you love it who cares what anyone else says? I think it is beautiful! My husband and I explored Scotland and Ireland for our honeymoon and while there we chose a girl's name in Ireland and a boy's name in Scotland. We ended up with a honeymoon boy baby. I don't care that my son't name isn't status quo here. I love it anyway. We also were tired of all the usual names. His name is Ronin and I wouldn't change it for anything. Congratulations!!

My 2nd daughter's name is Ainsley. We obviously adore it. It took some of our family & friends a little to get used to, especially since we didn't share the name until right before she was born (we didn't know what we were having). I think it will go well in your family! Good Luck!

Ainsley is cute for a girl. I heard the name Ronan (ROW-NAN) but not sure how it was spelled...I liked that. You should look up meanings of names, possibly from other countries/languages to have a new found appreciation of a name and then you mind find one that you like.

My husband and I are like you. We prefer to have names that are not the most common any more. Most likly it is because his name is Scott and mine is L.. You do not hear very many little ones with the name L. any more or too many Scotts however in the 70's those names were very popular. We went with Cynthia who we call Cindy for our daughter and Bradly (no e) for our son. I know at the day care that my daughter went to there were no other Cindy's in her class or even in the school and now that she has started kindergarten there are no other Cindy's in either of the two kindergarten classes as well as Bradly. When I was pregnant with my daughter 5 years ago we had picked out Andrew Todd if she would have been a boy. Then a couple of years ago we found out the my husband's uncle has cancer and we wanted to go with a family name. Both is uncle and Grandfather's middle name are Robert, so our son became Bradly Robert. A friend of mine is a big Star Wars fan and named his son Luke another one named thier son Chase. I had a baby book that was called 2001 baby names that we used to help with Bradly.

I love that name! Boys names are incredibly hard, but you'll figure it out. Don't worry about what others think....the baby will be too cute for people to comment over the name! Congratulations!!

I have a 21 year old Kara and a 15 year old Nathan (not Nathaniel as he will remind anyone that makes the mistake of calling him such..he's proud of his name, Nathan Michael...Warrior and Follower of God). I wanted Kara to be named Fredrica so we could call her Fredi, or Francesca so we could call her Franki, but her dad wouldn't think of it. I tried to get her to name her little girl Fredi or Franki but she would have no part in it...she has always been grateful that her dad had some say so in her name. But, now she is considering Francisca if she has another girl. I might just get my Franki after all! Give your child a name that you and her father agree on...it's in your heart's and it won't go away...you might as well give in to it! Congratulations on your surprise!

I wanted to throw my 2 cents in for a boy name, I wanted my son to be named Ashton Nathaniel, but my husband has a family history where our son's name had to start with a "J". And, it is not after Ashton Kutcher, I don't care much for him, and I heard that's not even his real name, I heard it was Jason. Anyway, the only 2 Ashton's that I know are him and Ashton Drake, which is where I first saw the name and fell in love with it. I did want to let you know something else, my daughter's name, Alexis, is on the top 10 names for a girl but she has never met another Alexis yet, as far as I know. She goes to daycare and there are no other kids there named Alexis which I find really odd. I have a very unusual name, Rae, but it took me until I was a teenager to really like my name and the uniqueness of it. I wish you the best of luck!

A friend of ours has a 4 year old little girl named that and I think it's precious. It's not too popular either which I think is a good thing. If you like it, than who cares what others think!

Go with a meaningful name!Both my boys were given very strong names and the first one is biblical.If you are into naming them after someone special then you could take a name and make up something off of it.I've known people that took two names and made up something.Just as long as it doesn't sound stupid and people can pronounce it.My children's names are different,and I gave my first son my brother's middle name,my daughter's middle name is my Mother-in-laws maiden name and my youngest son has his Great-Great Grandpa's first name (that I never got to meet,and I've never heard it anywhere else)and he has his Daddy's middle name.

Sorry but since you asked for our opinion..I personally do not like the name Ainsley. It is your child and your decision. If you like the name then go ahead and use it..

It seems like the kind of name you will need to spell for people for quite awhile. Also I can see people constantly asking where the name came from and why did you choose the name. Just giving you my honest opinion.

People spell my daughters name incorrectly and even 10 1/2 years later people mispronounce her name so just speaking from our experience. I love her name but to do it all over again I would choose a different name...

hello fellow individual. I named my daughter Dayla. My maiden name was Day and there was no male to carry on the name. So I thought I was being creative (to my daughter's horror now); but I have found several Dayla's. So what I am saying is it doesn't matter. Taking into consideration of your other children's names, I would think a "D" name would fit. Then you would have C, D, and E. How about Daniel, or David. Not too many of them anymore. Or Deke,Donald, or even Duke. My son I went with the traditional and name him after two ggf. Anthony Joshua. We call him A.J. He loved it when he started shcool. I had to tell the teacher to make sure he spelled his whole name. Good luck. By the way my initials as was my mothers and two sisters was V.D. And my daughter's initials are DRY. I too love the name Ainsley!! I used to work with a girl of that name, that's when I heard it for the first time. I so go for it!! I agree, boys names are harder to pick more unique ones! I think names are such a personal choice and you have to give your child a name you love no matter what anyone else thinks. I think Ainsley is a beautiful girls name! Here are some boys names I like: Micah, Jack, Gabriel, Cody, Brayden, Blake and Caden.

Ainsley is not wierd. I have one in one of my dance classes. It is a pretty name. Ensley is also nice. I know one of those also.
What my husband and I did with our second was take a baby name book and pick out our fave 20 names. We each did this seperately so not to see what we chose. Then compared the names and we had three that were the same. We played with those names and came up with our second's name. You may or may not have any matches, but you can see what you each like. I like Ainsley a lot, I have an acquaintance with that name. Here are some names I like that I can think of from my daughters' classmates, relatives, and my friends' circle: For boys - Esley, Jesse, Dalen, Augustin (August), Phillip, Sean, Seth, Jack, Blaine, Kieran, Marcus, Elliot; For girls - Hailey, Jordan, Adrienne, Iris, Stella, Eva, Marlo, Mara, Willow. Good luck! We, too, kept our choices "secret" until the babies were born - that avoids big discussions with relatives... :)

I don't think Ainsley is weird at all; it's an older name that's growing in popularity again. Whatever you chose is perfect for your child, no matter what. Scottish names are important to us because of my husband's heritage. We waffled among Ainsley, Emerson and Rowan for our daughter. Well, Ainsley Emerson is now (almost) five-years-old, and I honestly can't imagine her answering to anything different.

i love Ireland or Kahlan(kaylyn) for a girl. Dylan, Dakota, or Kane for a boy. if you like Jacob just spell it different(my son is Jakob) good luck and congrats!

I actually love Ainsley. It was in the running when we were pregnant with our daughter, and it's in the running again this time if we have another girl. It is gaining in popularity though, which is why we didn't choose it last time. I also like Aislyn, which is a little similar, but also gaining popularity.

Sorry I don't really have any suggestions for a boy's name. DH and I have a few that we like: Benjamin, Jacob, Zachary, Oliver, are a few.

I never did come up with boys names that I liked and stopped trying when we found out we were having a girl. I know several little Carters, by the way. I like Brody, but some think it sounds too surfer while others--like a born quarterback. Good luck with everything!

Trivia: On the show "The West Wing", the Republican attorney who served the Democratic president was named Ainsley. That is the only time I have heard that name, but I remember it! Name her what you want, even if it is popular.

My Mother in law's maiden name is Brockland and we took that as a second name for our 5th child who was a boy. His name is Ross Brockland. Think back to family names and maiden names, they can be a real treasure

I love unique names - my two sons are Taliesin (5) and Nathanael (3). I love names that are meaningful. Taliesin's name is Celtic, meaning "Having a firm brow." Taliesin was the last Celtic bard. Natahnael is Hebrew for "gift of God." We chose the more traditional spelling with an "a" instead of the more contemporary with an "i."

I assume you don't mind naming a girl with a name that could be a boy's and that you have researched the meaning of the name. But, just in case, here's some details:

I think Ainsley is a perfectly wonderful name for a girl, but if you are still open to suggestions, something a bit close to Ainsley is Ariel, meaning 'Lioness of God'. It is a name that is purely feminine, but is both beautiful and strong. It blends well with almost any last name and sounds perfectly noble with Dr., Senator, or Presidnt in front of it. You may want to look at older names, such as Olivia, Mercedes, Melinda, or a variation of Anne such as Anisha.

As for boys, I've always loved the name of an ancient and powerful Persian King, Jamshid (also spelled and pronounced Jamsheed). Have you considered Jasper, Jade, Gian, Galan or Sage? There are several other boys names that are unusual and are similar to names you have chosen, but so many people are naming their daughters with names that were traditionally boys' names, it is becoming increasingly difficult to give a boy a distinctively boy name. Madison, Tyler, and Morgan were pretty much only given to boys when I was a kid (I'm old). But, I know little girls and young women with these names today. Maybe we are evolving and boys don't need to feel embarrassed about sharing names with girls.

The post just before mine helped with the homework of the Ainsley names. If the name is different, but "not make fun-able', then go with your heart and gut! My h and I are of Scottish decent with French and Irish mixed in. We chose Iain (pronounced IAN- the second i is silent)to hold our Scottish/Celtic roots close (and Iain means "Gift of God or Goodness of god" and is celtic for John), and his middle name is Tracy-Irish and French for Brave/Warrior. We added Joseph as his second middle name, to join all families: my birth family, my adoptive family and my husband. Do watch the initials-if we had named Iain as Tracy Iain Turnbull, he would have the initials of T-I- (well you get the idea!).

We have a family friend who's daughter's name is Ainsley and both she and her name are beautiful...I'm guessing you're thinking of this name if you have a girl, right?

That name crossed my mind when I was pregnant with my daughter. I didn't want a name that everyone has either but I didn't want it SO far out that it got mispronounced or she was made fun of for. My family is Irish and we have a lot of very Irish names and we have an Ainslie. We narrowed it down to 3 names and as I talked to my baby I would call her by some of the different names and see what she thought ;) but I started referring to her as one of the names til it felt right and now she has a beautiful, not too common, classy, transcending name(in my opinion anyway!)Her name is Alaina. To answer your question though, no, I don't think its weird! As far as boy names, I always liked Aiden, Tyler, Braxton, Griffin...just to name a few....

I say if you like it, go for it. You're never going to please everyone. (Of course, having a Luke, I love that name! But, 20 years ago there weren't that many of them.)I think you need to pick a name you're comfortable with. People will adjust to whatever you pick.

I love the name Ainsley! In fact there was a character by that name on the West Wing, I think that actress is now on CSI Miami. Good luck with coming up with a name!

I have a customer who's daughter's name is Ainsley & I think it is beautiful. There are a few things that you need to remember when choosing a name: you need to like it & it needs to roll off your tounge well when you are yelling it (when your child runs off or gets into trouble). Don't worry about having friends kids having the same name. After all you & your child will have to live with the name for the rest of your lives.

not at all. I had a baby girl 5 months ago and that was one of my favorite names! I think it is so pretty. I also like the name Paisley for a girl. But you said no P names right? Some of my favorite boy names are Colt or Colten, Axel. There were a couple other ones but I can't think of them off the top of my head. My husband really liked the name Bryleigh. Good luck I know how frustrating it is picking a name.

Ainsley's great, and you could always do something like Lucas, where you could call him Luke if you wanted to but it would still be different. Or what about a more unusual biblical name, like Isaac instead of Jacob? Mo own son's name is Asher (one of Jacob's sons).

I love Ainsley...the doctor mistakenly told us we were having a boy but if I had to pick another girl name I would have had that on our list. We too like unique names...not off the wall. We have Sydnee and Cael.

I haven't found it on the website but in the book you can look up a name and it will give you sibling names to go with it. It is very strange because my name and my oldest son's name are sibling names. And Ainsley is super-cute!

I do not think it is wierd at all, I actually know 2 little girls named Ainsley. I have a daughter named Avery and also considered Ava, Kaydence, Payton as other options,and really like Emerson for a girl for a boy I like Aidan, Ashton and Blake.

I have known two beautiful little girls with the name Ainsley. I think the name is pretty and if you like it, go with it. You don't need our advice. Just use the name that you want. :)

I promise :) I like unique names also, probably because my mom named me Sommer D. !!! I named my Daughters Charity and Faith ! I have never met anyone with the name Charity before, but I know Faith is a bit more common. They go together and I like it. Now I was afraid that my girls wouldnt like their names as they got older so I gave them normal middle names, so they could go by them if they wished :)

As for a boy, I REALLY like the name Parker ! I know it starts with a P, but I thought I would throw it out there.

That name isnot weird enough!!!! Have you thought of looking around your house and then each item you see take that name and turn it around-that might be something you would like. I have seen the name James also as Semaje. Try it on try this for size; light/thgil; floor/roolf; lamp/pmal; there are people out there that have done this very thing go for it or try naming this child without any vowels-now wait till they get into school and all the teachers and kids will absolutely go crazyi I know of one that has done that to their son and yes he is already having to defend himself in school at the ripe age of 5--think seriously of how strange you want to be and how will it affect your kids.

For a boy how about Evan or Dylan. For a girl Mackenzie

May sound a bit strange, but as a young girl I was in a old cemetary w/ my mom, and found a old crypt for a young child. I was mesmorised by it's size, how small it was...and it had a beautiful carving in the stone, of a hand holding flowers...and the name Lidie. I fell in love with the name Lydia, and that is my daughters name.

I think Ainsley is cute! Go for it - if you keep coming back to it, then it must be the right name. As far as boys names go, I have a "Carter" in my house. I have only met one or two other Carters before, so it is unique but not out there too much. I saw one list that said that Carter could be girl or boy, but I just cannot imagine a girl named Carter??? The poor little girl that would have that name!?!

I think Ainsley is fine for a girl (I know one) but it's kind of effeminate for a boy...Just my opinion though.

I would say you are probably having a girl since the boy name has been so hard. We always had that issue. I would have to say that Ainsley is kinda weird. Although it may grow on one. If the baby "looks" like the name, it might work. However, you may want to consider what the school yard kids are going to tease her with when she gets to school. (And, if you swear to HS, you may be surprised when you get to that age). I thought our son's name was a no tease name until a 7yo came up with "canine" in my home daycare. So much for that. That wasn't too bad though, because he was only 2yo. LOL We don't let anyone call him Cain though. So, you might consider that. And as far as boy names, Canaan is my son's, and is very very rare. The boys that have it are pretty good kids too.
