Are You Good at Video Games?

I'm not talking things like Wii-fit. I'm taking Mario Brothers or Madden 2013.

I am HORRIBLE. I can play Pac-Man. That's about it.

I get dizzy watching my son play MarioKart. He begs me to play with him so I have to pop a few ginger chews and Dramamine to get through it. And I always end up losing - no fun!

My husband plays the sports games with our son. They just got FIFA soccer and it just seems like one huge yawnfest watching them go back and forth on the field. I tried to kick the ball around a couple of times but I had to push the plus sign button to kick high at the same time pushing the red A...huh? Boring! I'd rather be outside kicking a real ball.

It might also be that I have no patience or tolerance watching cartoon characters get bonked on the head or jumping over things or shooting things.

I am awesome at Tetris... and I haven't played that in years. The other ones... really, I don't care at all about them. Just not a gamer. I'd rather do something more creative. Hell, I'd rather clean the floor.

I'm awesome at certain games - my specialty, ironically, is Mario Kart. I'm unbeatable. We also have fun with the Wii Sports. It's just fun to spend some time with the kids and their interests. I could easily put the Wii down and never pick it up again.

I'm terrible. I do OK with basic computer games - Tetris, Candy Crush - but anything that involves a controller? I become an uncoordinated oaf. I was like that as a kid too.

I'm so awful that when my youngest was 6 he invited me to play a Star Wars game that involve the two of us shooting open a portal flying through a tunnel at the same time. If one of us crashed, we both had to try again. After 8 fails, he turned my guy off and proceeded alone until we were in a place where I could do a little better. He was incredulous at how bad I was: "Wow mommy you're terrible at this...I'm going to turn your player off for a little while OK?" It was humbling!

It depends on the game.
I don't care for action games (yeah the motion on some of those really turns my stomach but then that happens to me in some 3D movies too), multi player games, first person shooter games - and I'm no good with them at all.
There are a few exceptions - I love Warblade which is an old shoot-the-aliens type game.

Overall I tend to prefer Adventure/RolePlayingGames/strategy/tower defense/logic/civilization games.

When games first came out I hated Space Invaders and Pong but I LOVED Zork (text adventure) and Rouge (text and numeric characters make up the dungeon, monsters,scroll/potions/objects).

Last summer we visited the Toronto Science Centre and they had an exhibit about the history/future of computer games.
It was a blast from the past!
The parents were showing their kids all their old favorite games and the kids were showing the parents all their favorite games.
A fun time was had by all!

I admit I'm not a big video game fan either. As a kid, I played a little bit of Atari (HA, so old-school) but not a lot. I did like Frogger and PacMan, but not Space Invaders lol.

And yes, my 4 year old beats me a MarioKart every single time (and my 7 year old? please, no chance). But you know what? I play with him anyway. Because I want my kids to know that I am interested in what interests them. I want to have some idea what they are talking about when they talk about games because I want to be able to have conversations with them. I figure if I don't keep the door to conversations open now, I've got no chance when they are teens. So I always try to be interested in what they have to say, even if it is discussing Mario vs Luigi vs Yellow Toad yet again.

So, I play anyway.

I use to be, back when I'd sit around, smoke pot and have nothing to do...like during college :-) I was also an exceptional pin ball player!

But no, I haven't played a game in well over a decade.

I love playing the Lego Batman and Lego Marvel games with my son, and Wii Sports Resort with both kids. Before kids I used to drive my husband nuts because I'd always beat him in video games (I'm a little competitive). So he plays Quake with them online and I let that be their thing together so I don't dominate that game too :)

I love video games, and I have never found one I am not good at. I am horribly competitive, and if I start playing a game I have to get into the worlds top players. I have backed off a little bit lately because it was taking up too much of my time!

currently I play wordament, ruzzle and scramble with friends. I made the top 25 in the world at ruzzle, am probably at the moment in the top 50 of SWF, and I usually finish top 10 in the world at wordament. I am not very good at much else lol, so I feel I can brag a little.

These games are all boggle style word games that are timed, and I feel that they keep my brain sharp. My ruzzle UN is welshie if anyone wants a challenge!

I also love silly games like flappy bird, candy crush, mario etc.
