At What Time of Day Did You Go into Labor on Your Own (Not Induced)

I'm almost 38 weeks pregnant so going into labor is on my mind constantly. When I had my DD at 36 weeks my water broke at 1:00 a.m. I had gotten up to use the restroom and when I laid back in bed I wet myself. My first thought was "Great! Now I don't have any more bladder control!" After getting up twice and soaking two pads, I realized my water was breaking. I had expected it to be a huge gush, not a trickle. Soon after contractions began.

Is it more common to go into labor in the middle of the night? What time did you go into labor and what was your first clue it was happening?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

No surprises this time. Doctor and I decided to induce at 38 1/2 weeks. It's a good thing as my DD weighed 8 lbs. 15 oz. Whew!

My water broke at 5am in the morning after I got up to use the restroom. After about about 3 minutes of sitting on the toilet "peeing" I realized that I wasn't peeing and that my water had broken! Can you tell that I'm not a morning person? Lol

10:00 p.m. And noon. My water broke on the irst contraction that I felt each time and then went away for a while each time. I guess that I don't fit the mold.

My water broke about 12 midnight, I gave birth around noonish the next day. It's funny, I was scheduled to be induced at 6 am that morning, so I was all ready to go! It was also a trickle that lasted a while, no big gush for me.

I actually got out my clippers, and shaved my husband's neckline with a towel between my legs. Extreme I know, but he had to look good for hospital pictures!

First baby, I went into labor sometime in the very early morning (maybe 4am?). For whatever reason, I had no idea I was in labor (?!) and just felt like I HAD to take a bath. Had to. Got in the bath, luxuriated for an hour, refilled the tub with more hot water, luxuriated some more. Finally when my husband got up for work, he realized I was in labor, FREAKED, and called the doctor. Of course it took forever for the baby to come - she was born at 5pm that night! My water didn't break until long after I had checked into the hospital, maybe an hour before the baby was born, so I didn't get the whole "HELLO, YOU'RE IN LABOR" clue there. lol

Second baby, my water broke at 7am on my due date. Such a convenient baby! Anyway, I had a doctor's appt already set for 11am, so I waddled in for that and the doctor found that I was already way dilated (I didn't think I was having contractions though - much easier the second time around!), so he had me run over to the hospital and check in. I had to call my husband and have him come from work in a hurry. Our baby was born at noon! The moral of the story: hurry in for baby 2 - they come a lot faster and with much less fuss!

Best of luck with your labor and delivery, and CONGRATS! :)

4am.

I had a craving to take a shower and wash my hair... like a food craving bad. Got up. Took a shower. Washed my hair. Realized that I needed to go to the hospital. DARNIT! Curly hair needs to be dried!!! I was a frizzy mess for the birth. And yes. It irritated me no end. One might think it wouldn't, but it was soooooooo annoying.

Got to the hospital by 5am. Was between 5 & 6 centemeters and fully effaced and contactions were about 1 minute apart, once they started measuring them. Joke on my midwife and OB, they were expecting to send me home. (I have high pain tolerance). I'm walking in there all frizzy and chatty, and they're telling me it's probably braxton hicks.

My water didn't break, they broke it for me around 10a. HEAVEN. Better than sex. God... I LOVED that feeling. I could also breathe normally, finally, for the first time in months. ((I had a single baby, but was as big as a quad or quint mother. 10lb baby. 20+ lb placenta. Over a gallon of amniotic fluid. They had to bring in a STACK of towels to clean up, even though they'd prepped. HEAVEN HEAVEN HEAVEN. 2nd best part about giving birth (baby being #1), was the utter relief of my water being broken.

My labor went sideways about an hour later (someone pushed a med they weren't supposed to), and I got stuck in transition from around 11am-7pm. Whee. Ugh. No one should have contractions every 10-30 seconds for 8 hours. No one. They gave me an epidural (thank you god). I took a nap. Kiddo was born.

I was 41 weeks pregnant and at a surprise birthday party for my nephew (20). I was dancing merengue and having a great old time and then I didn't feel "right". Went to the bathroom and noticed that I was wiping green (TMI!). The baby had pooped inside. Went into labor and had to grab someone from the party to drive me home and call my mom to take me to the hospital. I left the party around 1am and had my son that afternoon at 1pm.

For my 1st, my water broke at 11pm at night. I rolled off the couch and heard a little "pop". I had the baby 15 hours later. For my 2nd, the cat jumped on my belly at 3am and my water broke. I had that baby at 7:10am. I would have had her earlier, but the doctor was stuck in traffic and the nurses stopped me from pushing for an hour. My 3rd was induced.

Good luck!

W/ my 2nd...around 3-4am. Real contractions began at 10:30pm. He came at 12:59am.

Both of my boys I checked into the hospital at 7cms--and at midnight.

For my first I had a dr.'s appt that same day, and my blood pressure was high so they sent to the hospital for monitoring only to be told I was in early labor only 3 cm, they sent me home and said to call, when I couldn't handle the pain anymore or t he contraction became regular. Uh ya I had preterm labor with him at 26 weeks and irregular contractions for over 8 weeks. My contractions never became regular, I had HORRIBLE back labor and just couldn't take it anymore. Waters didn't break until the nurse 'tried' to help and broke it for me around 7am. Dr. was delayed so I didn't have him until 8:50 am but was ready to deliver by 7am. Horrible story and will never go back to the that hospital. Had him at 37 weeks

2nd at 39 weeks had my membranes stripped at an early am appt. I'd say around 6pm I thought I could be in labor but didn't really know. The contractions weren't even as painful as my menstrual cramps were. By 11pm they were getting more frequent, but not really that painful. My husband demanded I just go in and get checked out--almost had him turn around 1/2 there. So glad we didn't, I checked in at 7.5cm at 12 am and 'still smiling'. Had him at 5:47am--I have no idea when my water broke with him...I was told I have/had a hefty sack with both boys :)

I went into labor with my daughter two days prior to actually having her. At the time I didn't realize it was actual labor being that I had been having tons of false labor throughout most of the pregnancy. I also had no clue my water was breaking because to me it just seemed as though I had to pee often, which made sense being 35 weeks pregnant and all. I gave birth to her at about 11am.

I went into labor with my son very early in the morning, I knew it was true labor due to the horrible back contractions, and I knew my water broke once I got up to pee and I saw a bit of blood as well(TMI, sorry) at about 0600 he was born at about 0848.

With my first my water broke around midnight. Earlier in the day I had sharp pains in my stomach, but nothing until later that night. Around 10:45 I started feeling something and after the second I decided to time them. They were a consistant 7 minutes apart. I went to bed and then my water broke. With my second I was sitting on my couch and I jumped up with a sharp pain going down my back. It hurt so bad and that was the start of my labor with her. That was about 10:30pm, so I guess my body decides after 10pm is the time to go into labor. My third was a planned c-section so I never went into labor with her.

delivery #1: a little before midnight, I continued cleaning (nesting), & woke at 7am & headed to the hospital. Water broke about 2pm, still no action. Induced & finally delivered at 9pm. Oh, & 6 days past due date.

delivery #2: water broke at 2a.m. Went straight to hospital. No progress & induced at noon. Emerg c-section at 4pm. Had 3 different due dates. After our daughter was delivered, it was determined that I was almost 2 weeks overdue....go figure!

delivery #3: 1st contraction in dr's office after I was told that it could be another week or two. I was furious, thru the roof mad at the dr. My due date was the next day, my older son started school 2 weeks after that, & I was determined to have the baby before school!

Anyway, 1st contraction about knocked me out in the reception room as I walked out! Drove to my Mom's (1 hour away), still having contractions. Had contractions all thru the night....until I couldn't take it any longer. Drove the hour back to the hospital & was admitted. Staff broke my water, still no progression. Induced & delivered (all-natural) ?4 hours later. From 1st contraction to delivery was about 24 hours! I was just thankful that I could do it without meds & vaginally...wasn't looking forward to another c! & I delivered on the due date....as I wanted!

Geeez, I'm a hardhead & I complain about my sons being the same way!

With my first, 6 days overdue, it was 2:10 in the afternoon when I was in the bathroom and had this sharp pain for a couple seconds along with what I thought was a gush of urine, and thought, gee that was odd. I figured the baby had moved off my bladder and let the rest come out, HA, who knows. and then 30 minutes later, again, only no gush of anything and 30 minutes later, a contraction, and then realized,, gee I must be in labor. We went to the hospital at 7 that night to be checked and they said I wasnt in labor. We went home, and went back at 10pm. My water broke and shot off the end of the bed soaking everything at 10:40pm and he was born at 12:55am. Short labor huh?
Then with the 2nd, I was up in the night uncomfortable and unable to sleep. I sat on the couch and had a few aches and thought they were Braxton Hicks, and then at 4:45am my water broke, kinda like a plop of water oozed out..lol. I got up and went to the bathroom and stepped into the tub and called my husband to get up so we could go to the hospital. Not sure why, other than they said to come in if my water broke, but I wasnt in labor. Got to the hospital at 5:10am, and she was born at 5:25am.. on her due date. Guess it was a good thing we went when we did,,lol.

first was around 3am, woke up to contractions - had him 4 hours later ( at 38 weeks)

second was 1am, woke up to contractions - had him an 2 hours later ( at 39 weeks)

third they broke my water since my labor stopped- after they broke my water had him 5 hours later. I had mild cramps and back pain so they told me to come in since I went fast with my other 2.. that was around 3pm ( on his due date)

forth was induced- from entering the hospital until I had him was 3 hours ( he was at 39 weeks and we left the hospital and drove 5 hours to my uncles funeral, they were afraid I would go into labor on my own)

fifth was at 8am - had her an hour later. I just got the kids off to school then the contraction hit. Almost had her in the ambulance, I was in the hospital long enough to get to my room then push. (at 39 weeks)

I'm not entirely sure. DD dropped very suddenly around noon that day but I felt no contractions, though the triage said I was contracting when we got there around 7PM (I went home, had dinner and a shower and then wandered over to the hospital). So there was no middle of the night waking for me. My water didn't break on its own. They broke it the next day when I was still at the "oh, that's a contraction? Eh..." stage and going nowhere. DD was finally born the day after I was admitted, at 4PM.

I've heard that women labor at night more than during the day. According to my source, women's labors sometimes stall out come day break but will resume at night. Apparently it has to do with stress and our instinctual brain.

My water broke while I was making morning coffee in the kitchen. The next morning my daughter was still not born yet. That afternoon and evening? Still not here. Now when I try to remember it I can't remember how it felt to have a contraction. They were so intense and unceasing. Metal, is how I'd describe it. The next morning, at 8:40, she came barreling out (not an exaggeration. She's my two day-three push baby. The force of her coming out so quickly fractured my tail bone. Hah! It really hurt to sit to feed her, but good grief looking at her made me swoon. Such a perfect little face, yah know? Oh boy, here we go. I'm cluckin' again ;-).
