Best Salon for Daughter's First Hair Cut

Which is the best kids hair salon chain for a first (a later, follow-up) haircut? My daughter is 2 1/2 and still never needed to have her hair cut, but it is probably time to trim up the back. She can get nervous in new circumstances, but she will warm up once she gets comfortable, so I need a warm, inviting environment. I also want to get a photo of the moment, but I can always do that myself if they don't. There is a Snipits near me, and I have heard of others, but I obviously don't have any experience with them. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We went to Cool Cuts in the Toys R Us in Frisco. I wouldn't recommend this location. It was very crowded in a small space, and they only have 2 special chairs made like cars. The VHS tape jumped and had bad tracking the whole time, and the polaroid was of poor quality (but I expected that). Even still, my daughter did great, and she got a cute cut. Will try the Plano location next time.

I'm also a big fan of Cool Cuts. My son isn't old enough for a haircut but I go there with my sister in law for my nephew. We go to the one at Coit & Campbell in Richardson & it's the only place he will let cut his hair. He gets to play with a train set & watch dvd's and instead of chairs they have a taxi & a fire truck. The people are so great.

Zoo Cuts in Allen (at the corner of Bethany and Greenville) is my favorite place! I know for a fact that they will take a picture of your daughter for her first haircut. The place is sooo kid friendly to keep her entertained and distracted. They also are nice to mommies and give them drinks as well while the kids are getting their hair cut. I have never had to wait there either (especially if you go during the week) Check them out, you won't be disappointed!

Hi, B.. We live in Flower Mound, but I'm sure there is a Cool Cuts in the area. We took our daughter there for her 1st hair cut and have been big fans since then. They're very good with kids (they get to sit in a car while they watch a dvd). Also, they took a polarioid shot of her and saved her first cut in a card as a keepsake.

Good luck and take pics (we did!).

I would say that Angel Hair Design in Salon Pour Vous would be a great choice if your little girl is the quiet type. Angela is a really sweet & gentle gal, won't scare your daughter. Her salon is peaceful & quiet, you won't have a lot of noise or smells or people coming and going while you're there. You know, just go walk through and meet Angela and see it for yourself. You'll know if the atmosphere is right for you guys. The haircut will be great, but the atmosphere is the bigger issue. Good Luck. S.

Hello!! We go to Cool Cuts in Frisco. We do request Pam, she is awesome and has helped with my son (who hated getting his haircut). She is wonderful with kids. We tried different places (all seemed to be crowded and much noise), so we try and go during the non busy time.

I LOVE the cutting place inside the Stride Rite on MacArthur in Lewisville! (Sorry - I never can remember the name!) They do ear piercing, too. They've done two of my girls' ears and will be doing the third one soon. I get all of their hair cut there as well. I don't go frequently because I get their hair cut in a way to minimize frequency of cuts, but they always remember us.

I second Cool Cuts 4 Kids, especially the one on McDermott in the Target shopping center. My daughter always goes to the same person & that helps the situation. We use Stephanie & I highly recommend her. Also made an apt. so you don't have to wait which will decrease her anxiety.

I would not recommend Snip Its. They show their own video with characters the kids don't know whereas at Cool Cuts they have Dora, Barbie, etc. that the kids can pick from. I know Cool Cuts takes a pic & gives a lock of hair from the 1st haircut @ no charge.

Good luck!
