Can You Reccommend a Good Refrigerator?

Our refrigerator has died and we will be getting a new one. Any reccommendations on which brand we should buy? Do you have the kind with the freezer on the bottom, and if so, do you like it or hate it? This is such a big purchase with so many choices, I just want to make sure we make a smart purchase. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

For those of you that have the side by side - How do you fit a frozen pizza in the freezer? I was looking at one and realized I probably would not be able to fit frozen pizza(Red Barron) into the freezer. We have frozen pizza night every Saturday night which means I buy 4 of them for the two weeks. Would these fit in a side by side?

What can I do next?

We have a side by side Kitchen-Aid and LOVE It. I like the ease of the shelves for moving and cleaning and overall space. This fridge is about 7 yrs old.

This Kitchen Aid fridge is top of the line and it replaced a top of the line Maytag that died in 3 yrs. FWIW... the top of the line Maytag dishwasher died in 4 yrs and was replaced with a top of the line Kitchen Aid with NO issues whatsoever.

we have a side by side. I hated the freezer on the bottom ones. I felt like I would loose things. For the pizza, stand it up tall on its side. it is fine.

We have a Samsung with the freezer on the bottom. I like the fridge part being on top, but the freezer turns into the abyss..... somethings are never seen again down there. If you think about it, no real way to organize a box that you constantly get stuff out of 'from the top'... does that make sense?

We had the freezer on the bottom Kenmore Elite model for 7 years or so before buying our new side-by-side and I'm not sure that I would buy that model again. What Jim said is true. While there is a lot of room in the bottom freezer, you lose sight of what's on the very bottom and you are constantly bending down on your knees to see what's in there. We're liking our new Whirlpool now.

I don't know what brand to steer you to, but STAY AWAY from the Frigidaire brand. We have all Frigidaire appliances (all bought around the same time period, so we didn't know any better yet.) Our dishwasher caused over $10,000 in damage to our home and LOTS of grief!!!! Every single one of our appliances has had to be worked on and for how old they are and what we paid, this should not be an issue!

Best of luck!

We have a side-by-side Kenmore Elite that works really well for us...and we had no intention of doing s-b-s bc they looked like they had some much less room. In fact, it turned out to have MORE space than our old one, but offered a much more streamlined look.

I'm also thrilled with the water dispenser...I can fit my whole 40oz water bottle under it and I've never seen another one that big. The price was right, too!

I have a Kenmore Elite with the french doors and bottom freezer (double drawers). I love my fridge it holds so much. We used to have one with the single drawer on the bottom but I found that to be a pain in the rear.

We also have a large freezer in our garage for larger items, but I think the two drawers hold quite a bit.

I hate, hate, hate my side by side. I cannot fit anything in it. And, No, you will not fit your Red Barron pizza in the freezer. Unless you have a second refrigerator and freezer don't get one - biggest mistake ever!

We've been happy with our Kenmore French Door style. I love, love, love the larger refrigerator portion. However, after a couple years now with the bottom drawer freezer, I'm not a fan. It doesn't hold as much as the traditional (upper) freezers do and it's like a big pit. I hate trying to cram everything in there and finding the drawer won't close. I never had that problem with the freezer on top. Not easy to access everything, either. Still, I think it's worth it to get the larger refrigerator portion.

Steer clear of stainless, btw, unless you get the fake kind that doesn't smudge. Stainless was a horrible choice with kids! Regret that big-time.

We love our top of the line GE which replaced our no frills Admiral. I went with the two fridge door model with the freezer on bottom. I hardly use the freezer except to store ice cream and TV dinners for work. Also I was tired of bending over to dig through my refrigerator every time I cooked. I wanted my fridge at eye level. I also wanted an ice maker and a water dispenser. I wanted to get rid of water bottles but maintain the convenience of cold water for my kids to encourage their water consumption. We decided to buy a floor model since the price was terrific. We shopped for nearly a year before deciding what to buy/strengthening our resolve to spend that much on a fridge. Good luck.

We have had our KitchenAid fridge-- a modest model with a freezer on top-- for about 10 years and have had no problems/frost issues with it. I should also add that we don't buy tons of frozen food, and we are a family of three, so this works well for our needs. Personally, I find a freezer on top is easier to clean out than one on bottom. I also like that the shelves are adjustable and pop out for easy cleaning. (No water filters, ice or anything like that for the model we have-- we like the 'less is more' approach and with this, there's less that can go wrong/break down.)

I have a French door fridge with the freezer on the bottom. I love it. I've had it almost two years. It's an LG because it was recommended by the salesperson and I liked the configuration. We got ice and water because my husband insisted. We haven't had any problems, but the ice and water features are usually what causes problems on refrigerators. I've been told that the condensor (spelling?) is the most important feature and only 2-3 companies manufacture them so that most brands are fairly interchangeable. Many companies are linked too--for example, I think Maytag bought Amana, so sometimes different brands are actually manufactured by the same company. My dad swears by Kenmore (Sears) appliances. I would check out Consumer Reports for the most up to date information. In terms of style though, I really like the French door.

We have this one: http://www.lg.com/us/refrigerators/lg-LFX31945ST-french-3... - Basically, it's the huge LG, French door with the freezer on the bottom, with a door-in-door in the refrigerator.

What I love:
* it is HUGE. I doubt I could ever fill it.
* Comes with lots of shelves, all fully adjustable. I ended up taking one of them out because I had more than enough, and wanted space for very tall items.
* Freezer on bottom is wonderful! Comes with the big under-drawer (lots of dividers), as well as 2 shallow drawers.
* The door-in-door feature is genius, especially with kids who like to stand there forever deciding what to drink. Just stock all the drinks in the outer door (which is accessible from the inside as well), and they can stand there as long as they want with that little door open - the rest of the fridge stays perfectly cool.
* There's a big snack crisper that goes all along the bottom of the fridge - I stock all our lunch meats, cheeses, and yogurts in there. It is well within reach, even for shorter kids.
* It has a ton of LED lighting - my old fridge was like a dungeon compared to this one. You open the door, and you can almost hear angels singing... laaaaaa!

Things I don't like:
* It has 3 crisper drawers for veggies, which are a bit small for my taste. It's a little difficult to fit in things like celery, or several heads of lettuce. If you buy a lot of fresh produce, it's a challenge to fit it all into the 3 drawers because each one is kind of skinny.
* Stainless steel. God help me, I cannot keep this thing free of fingerprints! If I had it to do over, I'd order it in black!
* We had to change our over-fridge cabinets - this is a very tall fridge. Measure carefully.
* Storage of taller/fatter things can be a little tricky. As an example, I buy ketchup at Costco. Kind of a fat container. The condiment racks don't fit the ketchup, so I have to store it in the door-in-door, or on one of the shelves. Not a big deal, but I wish the condiment racks were a little bit deeper.

Anyway, we bought this a few months ago to replace our ancient Kenmore side-by-side, and the difference is night and day. This refrigerator is a thing of beauty, for sure!

We've had a Maytag side-by-side for about a year and a half, and we're pleased with it. The only problem we had was in getting replacement filters for the water-in-the-door system that weren't too heavy on the chemicals. But that wasn't the fridge's fault. We just changed where we got our filters, and now everything's hunky-dory (I haven't used that expression in a coon's age!).
