Diaper Brand Suggestions??

So, we've always been a Pampers family and used them consistently with my son when he was a baby and now with my daughter, we're using them also. I absolutely love them, but they're so much more expensive than many others. We've tried a few other brands like Parents Choice (the Walmart brand ones) and while much cheaper, they didn't work at all - they constantly leaked, didn't fit right, irritated the baby's skin, etc. So I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on diapers that they used that cost less than Pampers but work just as well??

What can I do next?

The best diapers I found were Target Brand diapers.
They are awesome. My son went through diapers like crazy and they held it in, no blow outs and were a lot less then Pampers. I used only Pampers on my first and quickly learned that most store brands were the same thing.
I tried Luvs, Pampers, Huggies and finally settled on the Target brand and that one was great. Good luck.

I hate to sound like a salesman, but...Check out www.diapers.com. They'll send you name brand diapers in bulk, a little bit cheaper than what you'll get in the store. Shipping is free if you buy over $50 worth. Also, it has ratings and reviews for each diaper brand. If you decide to use them, please let me know so I can give you my referral number (you'd save $10 off your first order, and I'd get $5 off for a referral). I've been using the website for about 2 years now, and I really like it.

With my son, we always used Huggies or Pampers. Then, when he was 2.5 years old I quit my job to stay home and start a daycare. We had less money than normal and, honestly, we were tired of buying diapers...so started buying a variety of cheaper brands. I do not like Luvs at all. I was pretty impressed with the Target brand of diapers and pull-ups and Kroger brand Comforts work pretty well also. The Comforts would sometimes leak at night. We would sometimes use the cheaper brand during the day, when I would be changing him frequently anyway...and then use the better, more expensive brand for overnight. That worked well for us.

You could also try cloth. They are a big investment initially, but can really save money in the long run....if you are committed to sticking with it.

Just try some out...you'll find something that works well for you. :o)

I use Huggies now. But I used to be a Pampers person. I switched because Huggies seemed to hold more overnight and in the car. But before I did Pampers, I used Luv's. If you're using them on a girl, Luv's work very well and are cheaper. But I switched to Pampers for my twin boys because Luv's seemed to leak out more when all the urine was in the front. Occasionally, my daughter would leak out if she slept on her tummy all night long. But other than that, Luv's worked very well for us and were about half the price at the time. I don't know anymore because I buy Huggies. It just seems so much cheaper now that I only have one in diapers instead of three! I guess I could save even more if I switched back to Luv's again... Maybe.

I really liked White Cloud for when the baby was so little everything leaked, and then huggies for when they were a little bigger. Huggies seem to hold a lot more. And Overnight diapers are awesome for a heavy bed-time wetter.

I really like LUVS. They have a nice scent like baby powder. I haven't had any leak problems with them that I didn't have with any other diaper. Recently, I also tried the Target brand because it was recommended by another mom. I like them too. They don't have the nice scent though. Also, because I have a boy I HAVE to make sure everything is pointed down because the padding doesn't go as high as other brands. I have also used Pampers and Huggies, but they are just too expensive and other than the newborn ones I really don't like Huggies that much.

Try the Kirkland brand from costco. Or Huggies (I get mine from costco.)
Or try cloth diapers. The all-in-ones are so easy to use. I like BUmGenius the best of cloth diapers.
I use a combination of cloth and disposable, depending on if I am out or at home. The disposbale diapers I buy last longer since i also use a lot of cloth.
My absolute favorite diapers are gdiapers from gdiapers.com. My daughter can blast through petty much anything. Her cloth diapers do GREAT with holding in poopy diapers, but sometimes her really wet ones seep through a little bit. She has yet to have a blow out, that got on her clothes, in her gdiapers. They are basically cloth diapers with a snap in liner and flushable insert. i LOVE flushing it down the toilet. No stinky diapers.

We love Pampers and have tried all the brands out there trying to find a cheaper diaper. We found that Kroger brand "Comforts" (I think is the name) worked just as well as Pampers and were cheaper, and even cheaper if you catch them on sale of course.

One thing I've learned is that different diapers fit different kids. Of my seven kids (two currently in diapers), some have done great with Luvs, some with Huggies, some with generics. One of mine was great with the Parent's Choice generics, one with White Clouds (also Walmart), the others, not so much. A few of them have done great with loves, but the two I currently have in diapers have not done well with those at all.

My favorite "cheapies" are the Kroger generic (I think they're called Comforts?), and the Babies R Us/Toys R Us brand called Especially for Baby. My first choice in diapers is absolutely Pampers, but currently I have both of mine in the Especially for Baby diapers and have had them in them for months. Grand total leaks: 1. My favorite thing is that in the BRU mailer ads they frequently have coupons for $5 off, so it ends up being about $17 for a case and occasionally they go less than that.

Oh, one more thought-if you have Pampers coupons, you can combine them with in-ad coupons for Pampers from BRU, which can make a case of them a great deal!

We always used Pamper's Cruisers- muy expensive!! So I shopped around for generic brands and was ALWAYS disappointed! Luv's were HORRIBLE. They always fell apart on us. Parent's choice had to be changed too often. We tried many. But FINALLY a brand my husband and I are both happy with is White Cloud. I get them at Walmart. At least, I used to. Last couple of times I've gone they didn't have my kids sizes. The aren't as stretchy as some more expensive diapers, but the absorbency is great!

We just use the Target brand diapers. We have used them all, Luvs have a scent, Pampers and Huggies are just too expensive. Parent's Choice we were finding that it was too common to find a diaper with the tabs that just pop right off, making the diaper useless unless we found some other method of holding the diaper on the child. We've had the most success with Target brand, and they are cheap :D

I also loved Pampers but when I used a store brand the one I liked was White Cloud from Wal-Mart. I did not like the Target brand ones. I thought they were as bad as Huggies - they never held enough liquid and always leaked, plus they were crinkly-sounding and feeling. I don't know if that makes sense. The White Clouds are soft like Pampers. I also tried Luvs and ended up giving them away. They had no stretch to them. I don't know if it matters but both my kids are boys.

Hi C.,
We use Huggies with our son, who is 17 months. We buy them at Costco so they are a bit cheaper than getting them at Target or where ever. I have also had good experiences with the Costco brand, Kirkland Signature, they are good quality and I have not had a problem with them leaking, but for the size my son is now, the price difference between them and the Huggies (at least at our Costco) is almost nonexistent. We do buy separate overnight diapers, (Huggies) which are more expensive, but make a big difference since my son sleeps 12 hours each night and was soaking through his regular diapers. There does seem to be some difference between what works for little boys and girls, and also some diapers are better when the baby is smaller and don't work as well once they are crawling and/or walking.

We also use Pampers and empathize with your situation.

We go back and forth between Pampers and Huggies. Huggies seem to hold a whole lot more liquid but aren't as soft as Pampers. My daughter has extremely sensitive skin and the Huggies seemed to be a little more paper-like than the Pampers but not too bad. We alternate now and buy each brand when they are on sale and she does fine with both.

We had a HORRIBLE time with LUVS but some moms swear by them — I guess it all depends on the baby. We had to get through a few pretty bad blow-outs before donating the remaining box to moms in need.

I would suggest trying Luvs brand. They weren't exactly the same, but pretty close! :) The other thing I suggest is going to http://babycheapskate.blogspot.com/ and signing up for the updates. She keeps you informed about coupons (both web & paper) and when it's a good time to stock up. Plus there's spreadsheets to help you figure out how many are in a pkg (I hate when you see a sale on Jumbo but you can't tell how many are in there!) and reviews of all sorts of brands by moms all over the country. It's a great resource!
Good luck!

Diapers are such a pain! With my 2 girls, Pampers Newborns were the only thing that wouldn't leak. But after they were out of newborn size, only Huggies worked with no leaking. Now, I have a son and the Huggies newborns are working grand with him. Unfortunatley, the cost is only a little different.

With the girls, we had membership to warehouse stores (Costco with one and Sam's Club with the other) If nothing else, the savings on diapers and formula was worth it.

You can go to Huggies website and join and they will send you coupons - I don't know if Pampers does the same thing.

For us, it was a choice of leakage vs. cost. And the leakage factor won! Some people use store brands and say they have no trouble - we didn't fall in that grouping. So, basically I'm no help - sorry!

I have twin baby boys, and only by a diaper 'emergency' did I find another brand that I liked as well, if not better, than Pampers. I tried one package of the Walgreens brand when they were on sale 2 for $9 (48 count - normally $9.49 each), and while they are considerably more bulky and don't have the gel, they work great! They didn't have any size 1's left, so I had to go up to size 2. I would recommend going a size larger than you normally do with Pampers. But NO leaks, even overnight! The Pampers usually leak a smidge overnight, but are much better than any other brand I've tried. I will be keeping my eye out for another sale. I did go back after finding out how well they worked (while they were still on sale), and bought every package that they had in the store... so I hope you don't use Size 2... ;-)

The ones I love (Seventh Generation) are more expensive than Pampers, but I do know a way to get your diapers cheaper.

I buy mine in bulk from Amazon.com. If you buy by the case, they are cheaper. Also, if you sign up for automatic delivery (subscribe and save program), you'll save an additional 15% (and get free shipping!). You can cancel the program at any time.

For example, Pampers Baby Dry size 4 box (126 diapers) is $35.29 with free shipping on Amazon. With the Subscribe & Save program you save an additional $5.29, bringing your final price to $30 (no tax or shipping). That's about $0.28 per diaper.

I used Pampers as well and couldn't keep up with the cost, so I switched to LUVS- and I love them.
Took a few days to get used to the outside texture- they are just more crunchy and not as plush as Pampers, but that is only the outside and lets face it once they have pants on, you can't tell.
They hold TONS of liquid and poo and even have the stretchy side tabs that Pampers did! My little one is nearly 11 months and haven't had one issue!
I am expecting my second one in September and will for sure be using them again....

We got diapers from friends & families when our babies were born & that was the only time any of them had name-brand diapers. I was able to use the Parent's Choice diapers for #3, but not #4-he peed through them w/a quickness. I tried Luv's (I think those were the ones that were perfumed-at least to my nose they were, they smelled girlie) but I ended up really liking White Cloud. They also make diaper liners-think maxipads in different packaging-or you could change them more often, which will end up costing you more anyway.

I tried all the brands out there (brandname and off brand) and as my son has very sensitive skin, we stuck with Pampers because he broke out the least with them and they fit him the best with minimal leakage as it seems they are all cut a little differently and I found store brands were almost always cut smaller and thinner.

Here in Wyoming, Huggies were more expensive in general and even Sam's seemed more expensive for bulk Pampers than Target. My Target store seems to have weekly or every other week sales on diapers...namely Huggies and Pampers...occasionally I would get a really good deal from them on damaged boxes, so I would buy two or three boxes at that time...they also usually come with a thing of wipes in the box too that I haven't seen at the other stores. Also, for the Target deal, you have to look at the biggest boxes (where you get 80-100 or so in the box depending on size)...the smaller boxes are the same amount as everywhere else.

My other suggestion would be, depending on the age, to start potty training, which takes away that big expense of diapers. My son is 16-months-old and has been potty trained for three weeks now (he is now starting to tell me when he has to go potty, so it's not just me being potty trained now, but we skipped the stubborn 2's to start potty training...we were going to start at 12 months, but I found out I was expecting again and got a little overwhelmed at the idea of potty training when I was so tired and sick, so waited until my second trimester to start) and I haven't had to buy a diaper or change a diaper in three weeks!!!!!! People said I was crazy (including the MDs) to be training so young and my son's MD is still skeptical (says he'll call the Guiness Book if I succeed...!), but the proof is in my son! You might just consider it! If you need ideas on how to start or what worked for me, feel free to write!

We use Huggies, and I think they are awesome, but I know they are on the expensive side. I did receive a package of the Costco brand diapers at my baby shower. All other brands we exchanged for Huggies, but we did try Kirkland ones (Costco). In the end we choose to stay with Huggies (because we can buy huge boxes at Costco), but if I did decide to change that is what I would go with. My son was only a newborn when we used them, so I cannot speak as to how they are with older babies, but he never had a leak through. I found them pretty comparable to Huggies really. :)

My SIL told me the Costco brand diapers are exactly the same as Huggies without the brand name on them, I went to buy some and realized that they were the same price as buying Huggies at Walmart, so I have never accually tried them. She got them cheaper though, maybe they are priced differently at different locations. You might check that out.
