Hi moms, I'm 7 weeks or less out to bringing home baby #2. For our 1st child we got the Diaper Genie which works great, however I don't like having to buy special bags for it. Does anybody have experience using one that works just as great, i.e. easy to dispose the diaper and most importantly keeps the odors isolated and again doesn't require special bags or filters. Any suggestions would be great.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ladies, you are right! I think that we'll just skip the whole disposal system this go round and use the grocery store bags and we'll definitely double/triple spin the bag for extra odor protection. We take the garbage out enough times a week that odors shouldn't be a problem. I'm all about one less expense right now with a new one coming along.... Thanks ladies for the great suggestion!

In the babies room we have the diaper genie II (I have no idea what the difference is between I and II but someone bought us II) but downstairs we use the old plastic bag and into the garbage trick. I guess we take the garbage out frequently enough there is no order. It depends on your garbage habits.
I liked the post below with the triple fold method!

I utilize grocery store bags. I fold up the diapers first, then put them individually in grocery bags and tie the ends, then dump that in the garbage and the odor is minimized. Spray some lysol inside the bin and that takes care of that for me until time to dispose.

We just use a kitchen garbage can in our son's room.

Hey I started with the diaper genie, and it was ok but like you didn't want the special bags and I felt like I was constantly emptying it. My friend has another style (can't remember the name) but I don't think it kept the odors out very well. My son is now out of diapers, but what I did was just use shopping bags. You fold the dirty diaper up and put it in the corner and twist and fold back the bag twice and tie it by the handles after about two folds, it makes a triple bagged diaper that doesn't smell up your garbage. At least it gave me something to do with my old walmart and grocery bags.

Hope this helps.
