Just wondering if anyone knows of any airlines that offer discount tickets for kids traveling... My son is 2 now so we have to buy him a ticket and all family lives out of state so we fly 3-4 times a year. Thanks for any leads!!
I don't know of any airline that offers discount tickets to kids, but all travel engines are competitive these days. I learned about them on 20/20 and I've used them this year to book tickets to Phoenix for myself and the kids and to Salt Lake City for the whole family.
It compares Travelocity, Expedia, etc. and you can set alerts and it will watch fares for you to your chosen destinations and let you know as fares rise and fall so you can buy when the fare matches what you're willing to pay.

Don't purchase tickets online. If you call airlines they usually offer half price tickets for children. Although I have found that buying your tickets a few weeks in advance and using priceline.com is way cheaper than what the actual airlines offer.

Alaska Air lines offers kids fly free with paid adult but it is not all the time. When we went on a trip in May they had that. Amanda
What we ended up doing is get the Alaska Airlines Visa. We get a $50 voucher each year (when you purchase another ticket with it) and at 20,000 miles we get a free trip. We use the card for any purchase over $10 and pay it off each month (instead of using our debit card). Now all three of us get to fly for the price of 1 ticket plus $50 (plus taxes/fees, of course) each year. And, we build up enough miles that we really could get another free ticket a year. I know other airlines offer credit cards too, but Alaska made the most sense for us. You also get extra miles for booking online and when you add your milage number to your Safeway club card. Unfortunately, the penny pinching airlines are not offering many discounts. Some offer 1/2 off if they are UNDER 2, but otherwise you pay full price.
AKAir offers the fly free special to LA area for Disney every spring, but that's about it
I would suggest figuring out which airline you fly the most and start banking your travel with them. You should be able to accrue enough miles to get a free ticket after 3-4 flights depending on where you are going.
We personally bank our miles with AKAir, and also use their visa card which comes with a companion fare every year. That mean we can get our 2nd ticket for about $100 after fees and taxes. We also get miles if we fly on their partner airlines, which are Northwest, Delta, Continental, American, to name the big ones.
We fly a lot too, and I'd be more than happy to help you research which airline to stick with. -j
