Donating Supplies to Daycare Center

I use a traditional daycare center's before and after school program. Today I noticed that they had sign up sheets for their Fall Festival asking for donations of food/drinks/snacks.... Is this normal for a daycare center to ask for donations for this? I pay a lot of money for this daycare. They transport my son to and from school and give him a juice/snack in the afternoon. I chose this daycare because their safety and security was much better than others in the area. The facility is also immaculate and they have plenty of tools and some nice computers for the kids to use. It is also a lot more expensive than other programs that service the school. I don't mind donating supplies and such to my son's school because it is a public school and funding has been cut. However, I am bit miffed that this daycare is asking for more money since they are already among the most expensive after school program in the area. Do I need to recalibrate myself on this issue?

What can I do next?

Regardless if it is a Preschool or my kids public school... I always, donate anything I can, to the facility.
Because..... it is "my" kids' school. Therefore, I care about it and the school and what they need. Regardless of how rich or not the school, seems.
It benefits the school, therefore it benefits my child and his/her classmates.
I do not, mind.

I don't see anything wrong with this. According to your post they aren't asking for money, they are asking for food/drinks/snacks. It's for the Fall Festival, and although I don't know what that is, I assume it's a special once a year party. I am sure that your daycare fees go towards paying the workers, buying everyday supplies, cleaning etc. I see this as an excellent way to support the daycare and show them you think they are doing a great job taking care of your child.

If they are asking for a fall festival is that some sort of event? I don't think it's uncommon for places to ask for donations for an event such as food/drink. I paid for my son to go to preschool and everyone brought cookies to the xmas program.

But... if I'm not right and it's not a special event I still don't see the problem. It sounds like it's a volunteer contingent thing, so if you don't want to, then don't. I don't think it's that crazy to ask parents to bring a thing of juice boxes or a box of crackers etc.

I'm confused. Snack, drinks, etc ARE supplies and such, right?

Plus they're *asking* for donations for a festival, not demanding them.

They would NOT be asking if they didn't need the help.

I have never heard of a daycare that doesn't ask for donations.
Yes, recalibrate. You don't have to do anything you don't want to.

My son's daycare is expensive as well and they ask for food/drink donations for events. My son's teacher put this in the newsletter she sends out asking for gift card donations to the room from bookstores, craftstores etc. Even we felt the daycare has to provide all these. I am willing to donate because it will be used by my son as well and the other little kids in his room.

I think thats the norm at most daycares and preschools-if you feel that strongly then just choose not to donate. That simple.

Sounds like the norm, and it's been this way awhile. What you pay is for tuition, teacher's salaries, curriculum, etc. The Festival is extra.

My daughter's preschool did a candy sale to collect money for oil for heat during the winter, now that was grounds for being miffed but you know what, we sold candy for them. It was her last year there thankfully, but we did it.

I worked at a daycare for years and sometime me and my co workers held fall festivals for the toddlers because they didn't get to do anything away from the school. This of course wasn't in the school budget to hold such an event so last year I paid out of my pocket to buy food drinks ect. And another teacher bought pumpkins and. So forth. But we couldnt do that for every party we had so yes we dis sign up sheets. It's normal

It's normal, and optional. Don't donate if you have a problem with it.
