I'm hosting a Jungle theme first birthday party for my twins at the Treehouse in Barrington (park district). I'm looking for someone/someplace that rents plants for a few hours. I would like to have some tropical plants or just big green plants to spice up the room and make the theme work a bit more. The inside of the room is just plain and is wood (not drywall)so it is in need of a little help....any ideas? I have googled and used a few websites found but I have found nothing.....any help would be great!

Thanks,

Jen

Hello J.,

Sorry to use this opportunity to put in a plug for my business, but I sell Invitations of all kinds and think I have some that would work perfectly for your theme. I have a couple books of party invitations but there are also the themed wedding invitations that could work for you.

Congratulations on your twins... a double blessing. I am a proud mom of 2 adult daughters and an even prouder Nana of 3 wonderful grandchildren. I'm in Lake in the Hills now but lived in Barrington for 40 years, a terrific place to raise a family.

You can have an idea of what I do by checking out my website: www.cherann. There are a couple that I can think of in particular; there is a cute elephant holding a cupcake with one candle on it and a balloon that you could also have the number 1 on it. A really cute one that has colorful animals around the border; Tucan, monkey, giraffe, frog, snail etc. There are a couple that are tropical in feel with the bright colored flowers. That is appropriate but not as specific to children.

Regarding the rental of flowers....... I think the weather might be too cold to have live tropical plants outside. However, maybe you or your friends/family might have the artificial ones in their home that would be close enough to create the look you are seeking. As a matter of fact, I have a couple you could borrow. You can double check that with Renttokil (?) who used to provide plants to our office. Check the yellow pages as I am not sure they are still in business.

I hope that is some help. Please give me a call at ###-###-#### if you are interested in any kind of invitation or check out the website.

Good luck, the twins party sounds like so much fun. I have not yet gone to see the treehouse as that was all under construction when we moved here to be nearer our grandchildren. I plan to do that this summer.

The card and party store sells "scene setters" and there is one with palm trees and a few tropical ones that might work. birthdayexpress.com has some jungle theme stuff.

You might also be able to make some large palm leafs with green poster paper from hobby lobby or michael's. Or make a border by taping sheets of green construction paper together, and stamp leafs on them. Also, Walmart (those that sell fabric) have a jungle baby print with animals. I believe it has a sky blue background, and medium sized print. It might be cute to just get a few yards and drape it near the doorway, or use as tablecloths if wide enough. I have a baby blanket from it, if you want I can take a pic so you can see the print.

Good luck, we love the treehouse, it's such a great park.

I have a client, Initial Tropical Plants, that supplies plants to offices and services them. I don't know whether they would rent plants for just one event but you could try.

Their corporate offices are in Buffalo Grove and the main number is ###-###-####. Good Luck.

(They may have changed their name to Ambius)

What about green balloons instead of plants?

Call plant nurceries. They rent plants for weddings and such. They must do it for parties.

I would check with local florists, since they arrange that sort of thing for weddings. You might also try talking with smaller, family-owned nurseries to see if they wouldn't lend some plants out for a small fee.

What a great idea! ( I live in the barrington area, I may have to steal your party idea).

Anyway, what about blow up palm trees from a party store, or make your own trees with
crepe paper ( if you're allowed to decorate and /or use tape on the walls). You could even possibly find a theme-setter "wall paper" at a party store. It would also be fun to hang some monkeys and birds from the ceiling. Do party rental stores rent plants? They might, for weddings and stuff. Good luck!

Sounds like a fun time. Have a great B-day party!
