First Birthday Ideas

I know there have been posts about this before but none of the responses can really help me. My daughter was born on Leap Day so we plan to celebrate her first birthday on Feb 28th, which as all of you know here in MI means an indoor party. I'm not the type of person who wants to go overboard for my daughter's first birthday, however we do have a large family. If we stick to grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles and godparents with about 2 additional friends (with young children), we're looking at 40 adults and 17 kids. Sounds crazy I know. And I'm sure all of those people won't be able to make it but they will certainly be offended if they aren't invited. Having it at our house isn't an option, we might be able to fit 5 guests in our house =( Luckily her baptism was the end of April so we had a small party in our backyard. I don't want to have it at a restaurant or Chuck E Cheese or something like that, I want to keep it simple. Can anyone suggest a place that has a room that we can rent and bring our own food? If it were warm out we'd go to a park and have a cook out, but that's not really an option in February. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I live in Dearborn, but willing to travel to Livonia or Troy areas. P.S. Having it at one of the grandparents house is a very last option, several people would not attend if it were at one of their houses, sad but true. Thank you for all of your advice.

You can also try the community centers. I know that Woodhaven, Brownstown, Lincoln Park and Flat Rock rent theirs out. Although Flat Rock (which is gorgeous!) you have to use their caterer. The rooms run around $100 - $200 (I think), but it also depends on the day or may be cheaper during the day compared to at night, and some have some smaller rooms.
I wonder if you could do something at a hotel, maybe. Rent a couple of rooms then you have the pool for the kids to play in....
good luck!

There are halls for rent from organizations & clubs. I can't remember off hand, but in Canton (Canton Center and Joy Rd.) I went to a party and it was very nice. I'd do search with "halls to rent Detroit" and go from there.

Ok, so that's not as successful as I thought! I tried to find that hall in Canton, curious for a 50th party later this year and no luck. It looks like the small halls don't advertise much. Anyway, there are VFW halls all over and I guess you'd have to check them out individually. There's one in Livonia, Dearborn Hts, Plymouth and more. I searched VFW in Canton, MI.

I had mu daughter's first birthday party at the Ann Arbor Hands on Museum in downtown Ann Arbor. They have rooms you can rent and bring your own food in. Everyone gets free admission to the museum with a party package. So the kids had a blast. My daughter had fun too since there is a toddler part of the museum. This year I am having my daughter's second birthday party at the Putting Edge in Novi - its an indoor miniature glow golf place. They also have rooms to rent but you also have a per child cost.

If you have any relatives that live in a condo or apartment that has a club house that can be rented out that is the way to go for a large gathering - we have done that for numerous parties and gatherings and it works out well. Another idea is if someone belongs to the ELKS - they can usually get a room Good Luck
