Hello everyone,
I need help. I received birthday cards from a wonderful Kindergarten teacher and her class. They are from TN and do not even know me...their teacher knows someone who knows me...
I believe one of the students and I share the same birthday (Valentines Day). It was such an unbelievable act of kindness. Can you imagine how I cried?
Anyway...I want to send a gift to the class but I am not sure what. I need ideas!!Anyone have any good suggestions??

What can I do next?

Sounds like they could use a pen pal! As someone who grew up moving every two years, I know firsthand that kids are fascinated by places they've never been and like to see how it sizes up to where they live. Send them a few fun things like post cards from Yosemite with a moose on it, the Golden Gate Bridge, and a balloon flying over Napa.

I agree with the book donation, or a gift card for the teacher to buy supplies that she may need for the class.

Maybe a few books for the classroom (or maybe a gift certificate for a bookstore, craft store, teacher supply store).

One book that might be a nice one in light of their gift is the book "Valentine Express" by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace, a sweet book about a pair of bunny siblings who decide to make valentines for their neighbors

I agree with the letter idea. When I was a teacher, I had my students write letters to my friend in Germany as a writing project. They were so excited when she actually wrote back! She sent tidbits of information about where she lived, the culture, the language, some coins, a map....
You're in the same country as this class, but California is quite different from Tennessee. You can talk about the scenery, the ocean, the weather, etc. And if you like, enclose a book for them to enjoy, maybe something that has to do with California with lots of pictures.
It does take time to write that letter, but it will be a great experience for those children to have theirs answered.

I agree with Elaine. Books for the classroom would be wonderful.

If you aren't sure about what books the room already has, you can either enlist the aid of that mutual acquaintance, take your chances on a classic, or send a gift card for a bookstore.

How about a game they could all play and share. One that we played with our children was taking turns giving genuine compliments. Telling the other person one thing we really liked about them. It can be anything from the color of their clothing to their smile, but it has to be genuine. This game makes everyone feel good.

How about crayons/markers and paper? Those are always in need and is an inexpensive gift.
