I have decided to go back to school and get a Masters degree along with a teaching cert. I need some advice. Is it best to Just take one class at a time or is it do-able to take 2 classes. I'm a mother of a 16 month old and don't want to over do it. I'm very nervous about going back, espcially to take Math classes again, yikes! Any suggestions would be very helpful!
Thanks!

I think it all depends on how the classes are scheduled and what your limit is. I got pregnant my first semester while getting my bachelor's and after I had my son as he got older I noticed my limit was only 3 classes. I'm now going for my masters and he's 3 but my limit is only 2 classes a semester and I also work part time. Good luck!

I went back second time to get a paralegal certificate with two children in middle school and highschool age. I was ready to lose it with two classes and dropped one. Then I continued with one at a time. Also I was looking at this myself and a friend of mine suggested doing it online. Then you can take your time.

I just did that this semester myself. My husband is also in school, and my daughter is challenging. I took 14 credit hours of science classes. If my husband were not in school at the same time things would not have been as difficult, but in the end I got all A's and one B! Now this semester my husband is going for his Master's and I am toning it down to half time. Once my husband is done with his schooling I will go back to take a full load. It is much easier to do it faster though harder, in my opinion. I am assuming you are caring for the child during the day and going to school at night. I am also assuming you are able to take the weekends to do your homework while your child spends time with your partner/grandparents? If you are able to have devoted study time i think you should take more than one class. It is challenging in the beginning , but stay organized and you will be great! good luck!

O and I was SO SO nervous when i first went back! I would have mini panic attacks but then one day I noticed as I was driving to school that I felt fine! and you feel old going back but you wont be the oldest!

I am an Admissions Advisor at a graduate school, have a 2 year old daughter, work full time and take graduate classes myself. I have taken both full-time and part-time. If you are concerned about the time it might take away from your family, I recommend taking one class first. If this works well for you, try adding a second the next semester. My university is campus based, but also offers all the programs online, which makes it alot easier. Please message me if you want to talk more. Congratulations on your decision to return to school! :)

Hi JB,
It's great that you are going back to school, but since you have the little one, I would recommend that you only take one. I am taking two online at Kaplan and it's great! You just have to really pace yourself and keep up with the assignments. I really like this program because it is 10 weeks in length and I don't have to worry about childcare for my 5 and 7 year old.

Congratulations...all the best!

I just finished my masters and I am going back for a 2nd. I went through ACE American College of Education. It is and excellerated program and you do one class at a time. Each class is 5 weeks and there are breaks for holiays. I enjoyed it and it is done online so you can get up early and work on your class or when the baby is taking a nap. Go to the web site and check it out.

JB, I did this & took a full load to my detriment & my family's ire! Try one class to see if you can handle a little more next semester. Ease into it, your kids are only young once.

Good luck & congrats on your decision to return to school!
