Good Birth Control Pill

I have heard good things about Yasmin and Yaz (I think they are similar). I haven't had success with any BCP, so I use the Nuvaring, and I love it! I considered the Mirena, but my doc convinced me to try this first, and I'm glad I did! It's easy, and the hormones are low-dose and don't have the same kind of side effects as the pill.

I also take Loestrin24. The other mom said her periods were only 4 days, but I don't even have a period. The pill has 3 extra days of hormone pills. My doctor said some people just don't have a period on this pill because of that (or the period is just shorter). It's great, but I've had to take a few pregnancy tests because it's hard not having physical proof that you're not pregnant! I don't really cramp anymore, but I still have the PMS moodiness.

I was on Yasmin for over 3 years and never had any ill side effects. It is a bit pricey so check with your insurance. My insurance doesn't cover enough to make it affordable. I think there is a generic but I haven't had a chance to see my doctor to check.

I love the NuvaRing. You put it in and leave it in for 3 weeks only taken it out for your period. I hear people take it out to have sex but there is no need. My husband says he doesn't feel it. I used it before I got pregnant and started using it again as soon as I stopped breastfeeding. After having to take the pill for a year I was very happy to be able to use the ring again. Also I've had to be on antibiotics and was told not to worry about it interfering with the ring. Glad to say I didn't get pregnant.

But if you are looking for something more than a month to month birth control I saw on a show call The Doctors something call Essure. It's suppose to go in your arm and last a couple years.

I really liked the Nuva Ring... No daily pills, you have to remember it twice a month, once to put in and once to take out...

On the other hand, I told my DH after our son was born that bc made me gain weight and I am not going back on it because it hurt my self esteem and such as I hated being "fat". So he could either get a vasectamy, talk Dr into major surgery for me or we keep having kids until he does one of the other two... It took him a week to schedule it and a month later was done.

Honestly I don't trust any birthcontrol with hormones because mirena royaly messed me up. But there are suppositories that go in 10 minutes before sex and they are 92% accurate in prevention. good luck to you.

You should really take a serious look at Natural Family Planning. Modern methods are very accurate, as good at preventing pregnancy as artificial methods, and they do not have all the health risks of the artificial methods. Also, NFP is very good for a marriage, for lots of reasons that I won't go into right now, for brevity sake. Condoms are not very effective, and let's face it--they're disgusting. Vasectomy has very real health risks for you, as well as for your husband. Sexual relations between husband and wife without barriers of any kind is wonderful. If you're finished with breast feeding, I would highly recommend Yasmin. There's a generic now, so insurance should cover pretty well. I was on it for years before I decided to have my son, and went back on it when I was finished nursing. To me, the best thing about it is that it's the same dose every day, unlike the 7/7/7 ones (I started out on those) so you don't have the hormonal fluctuation you have (or at least I did) with the others. I've never had any kind of side effects from it either. Good luck, whatever you decide!

Hi M., I too was done after 2 kiddos and my husband won't have a vasectomy...his reason is b/c friends have gotten pregnant afterwards anyway, funny how men think. I've been taking the 3 month pill for several years now and love it. I don't have a period for three months and when I do in the third month it is very light...this is great for me since I've had really heavy periods since I was 9 and they never were controlled. I haven't gained any weight, infact I've lost. I do tend to get a little more bloated towards then end of the third month, but I take natural water pills and they help during that time. I take the generic brand of the pill so I don't know the exact name, but your doctor would. If you are interested ask your doctor for info or google it on line. I haven't had any problems with it. There is a new implantable birth control that is like Norplant. Ask your doctor about that, it is good for 3 years?

I've never had much luck with any pills, but my sister LOVE LOVE LOVEs the ring. You put in in for 3 weeks and take it out for one week. My friend (who's in residency) thinks I should try it after this child is done breastfeeding (I'm pg) and she says there are generally fewer side effects with it. I hope you find something that works for you. We've had two children a bit early (got pg 6 months ish before we wanted to try) with the inconsistency of timing and condoms!

I have a Mirena IUD and I love it. I have forgetten that it is in there. I will never go back to Birth control Pills. This is so much easier. I was able to get it done in one office visit without any meds. I would strongly recommened this.

If you are still nursing and you wanna keep your milk ask your doc about the mini pill. Thats what I am taking and it keeps my milk. But when your done nursing you will need to take a stronger pill, I don't know about any pill that doesn't make you gain a little weight. I hope this is helpful.

I don't know of any good pills, but I have been on Depo before & I will never use it again. I gained a lot of weight & getting off of it was a bleeding nightmare.
