Has Anyone Been in a Wedding in Their Last Trimester?

My BF from high school is getting married this April! Yay! It is only me and out other girlfriend in the wedding, and she is super laid back, so she said we can pick the dresses and colors. I'm thinking we'll just pick the same color and get different styles (obviously). I just went on David's Bridal and there were only 2 maternity dresses, and they are both pretty ugly! There is a "maternity appropriate" section, but I will be 8 months pregnant.

What did you ladies do? Did you get a normal dress and get several sizes bigger and have it altered. Or did you go with a maternity dress?

I'm worried because usually you have to order the dresses 3-4 months prior to the wedding. I'm definitely going to be MUCH bigger by the time the dress comes in.

What can I do next?

I was pregnant with twins when I was in a wedding. I can't remember how far along I was, but I know I was gigantic. Luckily, the bride just told me to pick out any dress that looks nice & she didn't have a color scheme. I found a cute brand new maternity dress on ebay. That's not the norm tho since most brides have a style & color scheme. I would definitely look around at other bridal shops & maybe even online to try to find something. A maternity dress would be more flattering. Honestly, David's Bridal loves to charge for alterations. When I got married, I wanted them to order a size 2, but they refused & ordered a size 4...then I had to pay for alterations. I would suggest another place. =)

Good luck!

Yes! I went to a wedding when I was 8 months pregnant. I found the dress at Motherhood Maternity and it was a very cute short black and white cocktail dress. I think that late in the game, you should go with a maternity dress because they're designed for the pregnancy belly. I was able to buy it a few months before the wedding, too. There was room in the belly for some growth so it all still worked out.

Good luck!

I was in a wedding at the end of y 2nd trimester. I ordered the dress 3 sizes bigger than my usual size ad it barely fit. If you choose an empire style it ight work better but if you have a choice you might want to try Destination Maternity.

I had mine made. I was 8.5 months on the wedding day. Because of my changing body the seamstress made last minute adjustments 3 days before the wedding.

Try a company other than David's Bridal. My brother got married 6 days before my twins were born. I found a dress on Ebay that was another person's bridesmaid dress (and not from David's Bridal). That tells me there are other options out there. And, if I could find a dress that fit me at 38 weeks with twins that combined for 16 pounds, you'll be able to find something. Good luck!

I was in my sister in law's wedding when I was seven months pregnant. We went to a designer for the bridesmaid dresses, and what I did was order two dresses- one "regular" and one "maternity", which was upsized to accomodate my future belly. Up to one week before the wedding, the "regular" dress actually fit (despite the belly). Then I needed to have the maternity one taken in because it was too big! It just goes to say, you never know. We went to a place called Mustela's in Red Bank, NJ, perhaps there is something similar up there?

I was in my brother's wedding at around 6 months pregnant. In this particular case -- not flattering! I was able to change into a classic little black (maternity) dress for the reception, and I felt about a million times better in that. What I've concluded, basically, is that you know how a pregnant belly goes out, and then it goes in? You need a dress that goes in with it, so the fabric doesn't extend as far as your belly when it's down by your toes. That can be done with pleats, or it can be done with some kind knit/slightly stretchy fabric, but you don't want something that just drapes straight down.

Good luck!

I have attend a wedding and one of the bridal party was pregnant, wearing a bridal party dress. I know she did have it altered. She was a movie star like pregnant...meaning everything else was in perfect shape. If you should contact a seamstress or taylor and see if they can assist you with the dress size and find out what that will cost as opposed to the seamstress working for the bridal shop. David's bridal is not the only bridal shop either!

My sister was Pregnant when she was my brides maid. They got their dresses from JC Penneys, so they could buy them closer to the wedding, and save a ton of money. My sister just went with a simply baby doll style dress that allowed for her growing bellie.

My friend was 7 months pregnant in my wedding and I think we had already ordered the dresses. They just added more fabric around the "skirt" area. It looked great. The dress didn't look any different than the others.

I was the maid of honor at my sister's wedding. I was probably six or seven months pregant at the time. We had a semstress make the dress. She put pleats in the front so I would have room for my expanding tummy. I don't remember it being very expensive. We had to buy the fabric and pay her for her time but we picked a simple design which kept the price down.

Get ready for people to rub your tummy. Its the only time I have had this happen to me. Perhaps the alcohol made their inhibitions lower but it annoyed me to pieces.

Good luck and have fun!

I'm going to my boyfriend's brother's wedding next weekend (I won't be in it, I'll just be watching it) and I bought my dress last weekend at JCP. It is a junior prom style dress (But not flashy enough to be too flashy for a wedding). I just got a size large and next weekend I will be 9 months. However, I am very small. I only look about 4 or 5 months pregnant.

Both of my sisters were pregnant for my wedding. One was 3 months and one was 8 months. We didn't do bridesmaids dresses. We went with matching lilac regular dresses that were very cute. We just got them about a month before the wedding. They fit nicely and we had no issues.

I was hugely pregnant and the maid of honor in a friends wedding while pregnant with my first baby...we all wore black dresses and yes, mine was a maternity dress that I bought at a specialty maternity shop, I didn't wear my heels for longer than the service and pictures and I still felt pretty = )

Hi Busymommyb
It is strange that you should ask this question now. My DH and I just celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. Back then there were not wedding dresses for pregnancy, but my only sister was pg, and of course I wanted her to be my maid of honor. I had always thought my bride's maids would be in like dresses, so we went to the bridal shop, talked to the owner, and she had an empire waist dress she thought would be perfect for our situation. I loved the dresses, she ordered my sister's one size up and you honestly thought they were made to order and only one of the girls tried them on the rest simply sent measurements as they were out of state. My sister's was a shade darker, and they were only $39. Everyone was thrilled. My sil delivered 3 weeks after our wedding and my sister 5. I was thankful they were able to be there and they are fond memories. Thanks for giving me an opportunity to share. Don't miss out! Talk to the people at the store they have certainly run into this situation before.
God bless you and the bride to be too

My maid of honor was 8 months pregnant at our wedding. We had a seamstress in the family, so we had our dresses made. It was a simple matter of choosing a pattern at a craft store that everyone liked and we did a deep purple. They chose the style that is popular now with shirts where there is the seam just below the breast and then a looser flow for the body. It worked well. You should be able to find a seamstress in a town nearby.

The only other thought I had was that I had a lovely black maternity dress from Target. I wish I could wear it now and have been tempted to try. LOL I loved it, it was elegant and beautiful. You may try looking online at Target or JC Penney.

I did this for my sister's wedding. I was mad as hell for being in the wedding because I was HUGE. Anyway, I ordered it 3 sizes big and altered it when it came just prior to the wedding. (be prepared to pay though$$)

Depending on your size there are two great styles to wear, either empire waist, or a grecian drapey, one shoulder style. Get together with your GF go shopping together in a reg store and just pick the color or colors you both like. If the bride is so laid back then I'd wait till Jan/Feb to shop, major sales and you'll also be bigger and can asses your eventual size better.

I was 8 months pregnant at my sisters wedding. I wore a regular (not maternity) bridesmaid dress that I ordered a few sizes larger and had altered. It was my second pregnancy so I knew how I would likely carry and look towards the end of the pregnancy which was obviously helpful. If the bride is so laid back I'd probably wait until closer to the wedding date and just go shopping with the bride and bridesmaid and pick something out off the rack. You don't have to buy from a bridal store that has to order you can find some great dresses at department stores. good luck.
