My hair breaks so often. I know we lose about 100 to 150 hairs a day. But evey time I vaccum I see more hair in my brushes then what seems to be on my head. Are there any hari care products anyone recommends to help with this? I take prenatal vitamins. Should I be taking other vitamins too? My hair was really healthy when I was pregnant with my daughter nine years ago, but since I had her it just breaks and comes out.
It might not be as bad as I think but I am sick of looking at my hair in my vaccum or in my hair brush.
Please help.

So What Happened?

THanks every one. I will try the nioxin and k-pac conditioner. They seem to just be breaking. I have hard water here in SCV but it happened when I was living in SFV 2. So who knows. My hair dresser isnt concerned. I get my hair highlighed once every 6-8 months.
Thank you all.

Hi Brandi-
Sorry to hear about your hair loss/breakage. I had a time (about 2 years ago) where I had the same problem. At that time, I had no kids. I tried Nioxin shampoo/conditioner and scalp therapy. It worked but it took time. Let's say 2-3 weeks. I used it again once I had my daughter who is now 10 months old. It worked again....
It was recommended by my hair dresser. It is a little pricey if bought at a beauty salon store but I always found it way cheaper at Supercuts. They normally sell them in a combo package, you have to buy the scalp therapy separately though.

If you do buy it at Supercuts, they give you a 10% off with your AAA card.

Good luck!

Brandi, Please read the list of ingredients in your shampoo and hair care products and know what you are using. There are many known carcinogens and harmful ingredents in products., and this is part of your hair breaking product. AVoid sodium lauryl sulfate, cocoamide DEA, propylene glycol, polythyelyene glyco> I use a line of safe, effective and non toxic products from Neways Int. I have been using these products for over 10 years and my "skinny" hair has never been smoother or healthier. Also take a look at this website for more information about the chemicals in your products you use. www.1000dollars1000moms.com/positivehealthyliving

Hi Brandi;
I would also recommend you look at a green barley juice powder to put into your daily diet. That particular grass has an unbelievable amount of nutrition ranging from omegas to protein to minerals, etc. I can give you a full list if you're interested. Hair, like our skin, can tell alot about the state of our health - hormone shifts and pregnancies can make significant changes in the balance of our bodies which affects our health. Oftentimes a nutritional solution can bring back the balance.
Also, when you shop, make sure it is one that is the young barley grass JUICE, cold-processed and dried. This is the only type that will provide you with the highest nutritional value. It also needs to be grown in a pristine, toxin-free environment, no pesticides or chemical fertilizers.
Best,
S. H

hmmm i would talk to your dr if you havent already. as for hair care products have you a hot oil treament or hair cholesterol? i highlight my hair a lot so it gets very weak and breaks for a while and what i do is 1-2 times a week i condition my hair with hair cholesterol (leaving it on for 3-5mins) and it leaves my hair feeling like i went to the salon. you can find this in just about any store that sells hair care products for about 5 dollars a tub. oh or maybe try the aussie 3 minute miracle. if none of those work go into a salon and ask what they would reccomend. well i hope this helps!

I don't know about hair products, but I do know that good nutrition really helps strengthen our hair, nails, & has many other health benefits. Most vitamin supplements are not worth spending your money on, as only 5-10% of the vitamin is "bioavailable" (getting into the body). Whole food nutrition is 100% bioavailable to the body, so it is the best source & you aren't wasting any money. According to the ACS, AHA & ADA we should be consuming 9-13 servings every day (recently increased from "5 a day") & most of us aren't because it is too difficult to do. I have been taking a whole food nutritional product called Juice Plus+ for the past 7 yrs. & have noticed a big difference in my skin, hair, nails, & also don't get sick very often. It has been published in 12 medical journals (including the American Journal of Cardiology). You can check it out at www.juiceplus.com/+sc57599. I live out here in Castaic (in the SCV area), so if you have any questions, etc. I would be happy to meet up with you! I read your articles on ADD/ADHD & agree with what you are saying! Food additives are also a huge problem for kids & once they are taken out of the diet, it makes a huge difference in their ability to focus. A doctor at UCLA who works with Autistic & ADHD children is a huge endorser of Juice Plus+ with her patients.

Hi Brandi,
I used Folicure shampoo and conditioner from Sally's Beauty supply and it helps. The pricing is decent.

Are you losing whole strands of hair or is it just breaking off? If it's just breaking off in pieces then you need to get some K-Pac conditioner from Joico. That conditioner will put protein back in your hair which will help with the breakage, especially if you color, perm, highlight, straighten, or blow dry your hair. It's not too expensive and you only need to use it once or twice a week. Cholesterol and hot oil treatments won't hurt your hair, but they don't penetrate the cuticle and won't really help with breakage.

If your hair is falling out in whole strands then it could be certain medications you might be taking, stress, changes in diet, weight loss, or even thyroid problems. If that's the case then you should talk to your Doc just to be on the safe side.
