Help with Wii Purchase

Hello Moms-

So it's that time of year when we need to do some Christmas shopping and I was hoping for some help. My husband has wanted the Wii since it came out. I keep telling him we can't afford it. However, I think by now the prices should have come down. I would like to get the Wii sport and fit packages along with some other games. I hope he could use it as a workout and for fun.

So my problem is I have no idea what a good price for this stuff is. Any clues where I can find it the cheapest. I saw the console and the sports pack at Costco today for $195 and the balance board for $86. Is that a good deal? Is it cheaper elsewhere?

I appreciate your help and happy holiday shopping to all!

K.

So What Happened?

Ok so Aldi had a bundle and I picked it up (I got the last one today) but looking things up individually I am not sure I got a good deal. I can return it so that's good. It's got : Wii hardware system with wii sports, wii golf club, wii party game, wii carnival minigolf and wii sonic and the black knight.

It seems that the golf club comes in a sports pack if I were to buy it separately and the games seem to run $20 each. So the hardware is $179.99 but it has no numchucks. Sooo is this a good deal?????

195.00 for the consol is a good price as for the balance board watch out wich one it is. They recently came out with a newer version with more options and new it goes for 99.00 they then marked down all the older versions to 85-86 and then if you want the additional games you pay 20 so it costs more.

I agree to skip the Wii Fit. However, I hear the Wii FitPlus is much better than the old WiiFit. I bought the Gold's Gym Cardio workout and love it. Additional info on GameStop: I buy most of my games there used, it doesn't really save you all that much but every little bit helps. I love the return policy (7 days) but that is only for used games not new. I also bought the annual membership and if you are buying a lot at one time it saves like 5% per game (again only on used stuff). We love our Wii, we also have the Wii Resort, so much fun to play together. MOst of the other games don't get played much but the active ones we do play a lot. Enjoy!

I saw a good bundle price at hh gregg for like 279.00 and it comes with alot of stuff. I don't know what all u want but you might want to check it out. It isn't available online but if you look at the weekly add you can watch for it to go on sale. It was 329.00 but I think it is continuing to go down in price but they seem to not have it in stock often. The best thing to do is find out when a shipment is coming in and then go that morning to get it. Just a little info. The cheapest I have seen the Wii is 199.00 so 195.00 is a good deal and I don't know about the other...

The company dropped their price for the console to $199 last month attempting to get those people that couldn't pay the higher price to get it so you should find that price everywhere. One thing you should see soon is a package of games with the console. Toys R Us had a special but it ended today. Buy games and get the console for $99. So watch for those. Also, for games, once you know what you want, check out Game Stop stores. They let you buy and if it is not what you expected or boring for you, they will let ou return in 7 days or something like that. Plus, lots of used games to choose from. I know some people that have bought the WII fit and don't really use it.

I don't know if you ever shop at best buy, but since i have two boys(20 and 14) I buy lots of video games etc. We are members of the reward zone(you earn points for all purchases and get coupons when you reach a certain amount)They also have a gamers club for reward zone members. there is no fee to join this and when you spend $150 in video games/accessories..you get a $10 reward. Also, they have special offers for gamers club members. check it out on the best buy website. with the extra stuff, it makes it really worthwhile to shop there.

It is a little cheaper than Walmart's online price. You can always check ebay. Costco is always cheaper except for music/dvds. Then there's the rechargeable battery pack from Costco I think it was about $45.00.

Today, Sunday, is the last day but Toys R Us is having a sale for the Wii for only $99. I doubt that includes much of anything, but it's a start.

Unfortunately, I deleted the email, but I think ToysRUs has a special deal for a Wii for $99? I think it's an on-line deal. I'm not 100% sure since I deleted the email without reading the whole message. It was in the subject. Maybe go to their site?

I think it expires today so if you have a chance, take a look today.

Everyone has the Wii for $199 now. The Wii Sports comes with the system.

I would skip the Wii Fit I don't really think it is worth it. I've had it over a year and never use it. Its not really a full workout its just a lot of small exercises. If he is looking for a workout I would recommend renting the game before buying. They have a few more workout games now.

The balance board isn't going to get much cheaper.

I would also recommend a Wiimote charger. We have the Nyko brand and it is great.

Hi K.,

Just a reminder from a fellow Costco member..return policy.
If you or your husband decide you don't enjoy the Wii, you can return it back to Costco and no restocking fees or hassels (provided you keep the receipt).

I purchased one for my husband and we didn't enjoy it like we thought we would and after 2-1/2 months I returned it with no questions.

Also, see if it's available online at Costco because you can also save money on taxes if you order it on-line.

Good luck finding the best deal.

We bought our WII in August and the kids love it. I bought it at Target when they were doing a promo of $20 gift card when you buy it. A couple of my friends bought the WII fit as well and really don't use it. But I do have a friend that bought a "game" of a personal trainer that you put in all your info and they build a workout schedule and keep track if you are doing it or not, she loves it. I also bought 2 controllers and two chargers on ebay for great prices. Also try your library for games, at least you could try them out before you buy them.

I would look at toys r us and see what kind of deals they have. now that the holiday is coming, things are being "packaged" together. you may be able to get everything you want for around $250. remember that the console only comes with one controller, so look for sales for the second controller. i think they average about 20 dollars. anything under that is a deal! Look at the black friday ads and see if there are any deals on wii stuff. bfads.net (black friday ads- day after thanksgiving)

I think that sounds like a good deal at Costco. We got the Wii that came with Wii Sports and 1 Controller and 1 Nunchuck. I needed 3 controllers and nunchucks so that my husband, daughter and I can play together but that rarely happens and it would have made more sense to just get 2. Sam's Club sells the Wii Play game with a controller and nunchuck for $57.64. Every other place I checked sold Wii Play with a remote but no nunchuck for around $45.00.

One other thing we purchased was a Wii remote charger so that we do not have to worry about replacing batteries frequently.

If your husband wants a workout, spend your money on a gym membership, or at the very least some really good workout DVDs. I went to a friend's to check out her Wii last week cuz I wanted to get one, too. We spent an hour and a half clicking buttons, pointing the remote, naming our Miis, picking which workouts to try... and in the end we had logged a full 14 minutes of exercise! While I definitely felt more refreshed than I had felt before we started, I found that this is far, far from any workout that would be of any benefit. Also, her 7-year-old son has figured out how to accomplish every move while seated on the couch!

I am not saying buy a used console, but i would definetly go to game stop and buy used games and accesories--If they are broken or dont work you can return them-- You can even buy games and if you dont like them which happens all the time, they take them back--thats where we get all of our games
