How Do You Sleep in a Hotel Room with Two Kids? Most Hotels Have Two Beds Max..

We'd like to take our two kids (5 year old and almost 4 year old) on a weekend trip and stay in a hotel. But hotel rooms usually have two beds. We tried once having my husband sleep with one kid in one bed and me with the other kid in another - and lets just say we've decided never to do that again! LOL I dont want to put them both in the same bed as they'd end up keeping each other up. So what do we do? What do you do?
Thanks!

What can I do next?

If what you need is a little extra space; "remake" the bed and have the kids sleep sideways on the bed. If the beds are movable, push theirs against the wall. My son sleeps just just as well with or without a pillow, so I wouldn't worry about those staying, but you can always scoot them down so that they have a little more head room if the beds aren't movable.

I just bring sleeping bags and take a few blankets off the beds to make it a little more comfortable. Or you could bring air mattresses. My son loves it, it's kinda like camping!

We have that problem with our 9YO twins and discovered a couple ways that seem to reduce their ability to keep each other up:
1. individual sleeping bags on top of the bed - makes it harder for them to kick each other :-D

2. Queen size mattresses are pretty darn big for a couple of kids - and since the hotel stocked the room with so dang many pillows, we put a row of pillows down the middle of the bed, underneath the sheet (we called it "the DMZ" LOL)

good luck!

We always get a one bedroom suite if possible. The kids sleep on the pull-out couch (or bring sleeping bags if you don't want them to share a bed). My husband and I are in the bedroom. That way we can still be up when the kids go to sleep. We've stayed with our kids in a regular hotel room a few times. I don't find it to be very pleasant and no one gets a good night sleep.

the first night is a little rough no matter what we do, they are so wound up and have usually spent most of the day traveling, which for us is exhausting, but for the kids really just means they have been strapped into one seat or another all day. however, after that, they are so completely worn out from all the activity on vacation that they just pass out wherever they end up and we move them to wherever we want them. i had all 3 in one twin size pull out on our last vacation, and we took the queen. having a movie to pop in to settle them doesnt hurt either.

The first night can be rough as mentioned already. We get a room with 2 queen beds and a sofa sleeper. The room usually states 5 persons max but they have not had a problem with our having 6 people total.

I have 3 kids (almost all teenagers now), but every time we have ever gone away (up until now too) - we ask for a cot/roll-away. Sometimes it now comes with a charge (around $10). But, it works out great! My younger two are girls - so now they sleep in the big bed together, but when they were younger - the kids used to love having "their" night on the cot - so we would trade-off! Either way - me & my husband kept one bed for ourselves!

When my best friend and I go on road trips we have 4 kids and, if my husband goes along, 2-3 adults in one room with 2 beds. Usually my friend on her son are in one bed, the girls get their sleeping bags between the beds on the floor, and my hubby and I share one bed. Otherwise it's pretty much adults sharing with kids, her with one son and one daughter or me with two girls and her with her son.

It's a special situation and the kids will be harder to get to sleep but if you just take it easy and every one lay down to watch some satellite channel late night cartoons then the kids will drop off quickly. Then move them where you want them.

I sleep with one child, hubby sleeps with the other.

Suggestions...
Put them to sleep in separate beds, and move on child once asleep.
Order a cot or additional fold up bed.
Stay in a one bedroom suite.

Some hotel rooms have 2 beds and a sofa that pulls out to a bed. That's what we did and it worked great. Recently my MIL bought my daughter a travel cot that has a sleeping bag that snaps on to it. That's another option.

put them both in the same bed or put them one in each bed and then when you and hubby are ready to go to sleep move one kid over to the other bed. this has never been an issue with us and we have been traveling with our kids since they were babies. one other option is to ask for a roll away bed but you pay sometimes up to $20 a night for that. or you can bring a sleeping bag for the floor but i am always afraid the floor might not be clean enough so that is a last resort

We found that what works for us is to bring the sleeping bags and get a room with one king size bed for the grownups! There are usually four pillows on the bed, and the kids actually like the excitement of "camping out" on the floor.

When traveling by plane, we've also had luck getting a room with two beds, and having one kid on a bed and another on a mat on the floor made of extra sheets/blankets we've requested from the front desk.

Many hotels often have a roll-away bed that you can bring in, but after trying that once, we found our kids preferred the floor.

Try a one bedroom suite - has a separate bedroom from the living room, which usually has a pull out couch. Some hotels have single size portable matresses - ask about that as well- one could sleep in the fold out and one could sleep in the smaller matress.

We have three kids, ages 4, 2, and almost 5 months. As of now, only mommy and daddy get the bed because otherwise there is war!

Each kid has a sleeping bag, and we'll bring a yoga mat or something like that for each one. They sleep on the floor on opposite sides of the bed. The baby sleeps either in a pack and play or on the floor on some folded-up blankets. Our kids really like their sleeping bags (and they were really cheap!), so it's a treat for them. And sometimes they'll climb into bed in the middle of the night. Not a big deal.

You could call the hotel you're interested in about having a trundle bed or something put in the room for you.

Wow-you guys are a LOTmore romantic than we are. I would never dream of getting busy with my kids rigtht there.

We always sleep one parent with one kid. Not sure why you are asking because it doesn't sound like there are any other options for you other than to put your kids together.

We went on a trip this summer with our 5 kids and found it best to get a suite- they usually have 2 bed plus a pull out couch- we did 2 kid per bed- or if a couple of them wanted to sleep on the floor- we let them- and had the baby in a portable crib. Worked out pretty well, plus the room is bigger!

Can't help you here since I always just put the kids in the same bed together. I always put them to bed early so they get their sillies out but they will finally settle in and go to sleep. My youngest daughter was always with me in my bed and the other three shared, usually with no problem. If there seemed excessive fighting, they were all made to sleep on the floor. They REALLY don't like that so it usually got it through their heads.

Most hotels will allow you to order a cot for free or for a minimal charge. I would do that if they don't sleep well in the same bed. FWIW, we have 4 kids ages 5-13 and we put one of the big kids in the cot and the other big kid and two little kids in one bed and DH and I in the other, but they all sleep well together so it's not an issue. Get the cot and enjoy your stay!

Blow-up mattresses and sleeping bags. Psych the kids up to think it's something special! Just make sure the mattresses will fit on the floor space. Some rooms are pretty small. When my kids were little we used blow-up full length floatation matts that you would use in a pool. Have fun!

We are a family of four and I always make the 2 kids sleep in the same bed. Either that or my husband and I take turns with the kids. Sometimes they do have pullout beds, or you can always rent a rollaway for usually $10 a night.
