So, been a couple of years since I have been pregnant and I didn't dye my hair with my first 2 children, but wasn't really expecting to get pregnant so soon after we decided for baby #3 and my roots are horrible!!! and very obvious. Is it safe to dye my hair right now, or should I wait. I am about 5 weeks along.

thanks!

What can I do next?

I was always told no dying or perming, but these days they allow it after the 1st trimester. To much development in the 1st tri, - may affect baby adversely. Not worth the colored hair.

I would not do it while I was preg.
It is better to be safe than sorry.
I don't think that coloring your hair would be worth hurting the baby.

Have a wonderful time being preg. =)
Congrat's to you and your family.

It's not something I would do but everyone is different. They say high lights are not so bad since the chemicals are not right on your skin. Perhaps a natural dye might be safer:

I think it depends on what you are planning on doing. If you are coloring it, most salons offer some sort of chemical free (maybe not free, but not bad for you) color. However, bleaching your hair is potentially bad because (this is from salons I have asked), they do not want the bleach to get into your scalp and potentially close to the baby. Pretty much any salon or dr I've talked to said it's pretty much safe, but you just have to be cautious about what color and how much chemicals are in your hair.

Goodness, some of your responses must have just replied without looking up any information! Yes, it's totally safe to dye your hair, it no less safe later in pregnancy, and it won't affect your pregnancy or fetus. BUT the hormones can change how your hair takes the color, so keep that in mind if it doesn't come out as it usually would:)

you should be fine if you are going darker. if you lift you hair( more than a 20vol developer) it can have too many fumes. when going darker your hair may take the color differently. so it may be a little darker than you expected. but you can't really know how you're hair will react before. everyone is different when pregnant

I would do it, but try to make sure it's in a well ventelated space. I do mine at home in my bathroom, which wouldnt be cool if I was prego as it's got a skylight, not a regular window, so no way to circulate air.

Go ahead. The stuff they use today is safe. All those books and things that say not to do it are based on the wierd chemicals they used 30+ years ago.

I would say no, but ask your doctor just to be sure. I know it is not recommended further along in pregnancy, so ask your doc to be sure.

Dying your hair during pregnancy is fine, but you should avoid whole-head bleaching and waiting until the 2nd trimester is best. Good luck!

I vote yes!

Here is what the Mayo Clinic says on this issue:

I have yet to hear of someone dying their hair and the baby being affected... maybe I don't have many friends, IDK.

Good luck!

I would wait till the first trimester is over just in case but after that I believe it's safe.
Can you get a new haircut to distract attention from the roots? I know some haircuts are better than other when it comes to dark roots.
by the way congrats!!! I'm so jealous I love being pregnant and I just had my youngest last year! maybe I should start planning for # 3 LOL.
Have a great day :o)

When I was pregnant with my daughter I asked my doctor that very same question. She said absolutely. No problem. Just make sure there is PLENTY of ventillation b/c you don't want to inhale those fumes too much. Congrats on Baby #3!!!!!

I personally don't dye my hair while pregnant, but my friend who just had a baby dyed hers the whole time for both of her pregnancies. And my hair stylist actually laughed out loud when I told him I don't dye while pregnant. Oh, I'm sorry... color my hair. My guy is kinda snooty! But soooo worth it! lol
