Know a Good Clown?

Hi Moms! My son's first birthday is approaching, and we are planning a circus-themed party in the northern suburbs. We are interested in having a clown stop by and want to know if anyone has used one in the past that you enjoyed. If so, what did the service cost? Do you have the contact info? We would prefer one that makes animal balloons. Some clowns are kind of scary, so any referrals would be great! Thanks for all your help!

Try Mary Macaroni http://www.marymacaroni.com/. I've never actually used her but almost did for my daughter's 3rd birthday (we decided to do it at Gymboree instead for other reasons). And I'd heard great things about her. She will dress up as whatever you want, will sing, make balloon animals, etc. She was so gracious when I had to cancel. I'll probably use her in the future. I bet she would do a NOT scary clown!

I'm a clown but I'm entering the last month of my pregnancy so I'm not doing any clowning these days. In which suburb specifically are you located? I have an excellent face painter recommendation and depending on where you live I can recommend a good clown too. It takes one to know one!

If you have any willing family members (dad?), you can rent a costume and there are books that teach how to make balloon animals. A less scary one would be a female with lighter, cute makeup and flowery stuff. I had a circus theme for my one year old at an outdoor park. A cousin did the face painting. We had game "stations" with lots of dollar store prizes. Have fun!

Mr. Smarty Pants...not a clown per se, but a quirky get-up, and, most importantly, an excellent balloon artist. I saw him perform at a neighborhood fest. Very mellow and kind...

Hi C.,

I know a person that does all different types of stuff and may be able to help you. His stage name is "Danny Donuts"
Let him know that L. Carroll referred you to him. I think he has a website and I don't have his number handy.

Write me back if you have not found one yet and I will get you his number.

You can try funtownentertainment.com, we had them for our daughetr's 2nd birthday party. She really enjoyed it. We asked that Daisy come to her party, she did balloon animals and tattoos. She was sweet and patient with all of our little guests.

We did not have a clown (it was the Easter Bunny) at our daughter's last party, but we used Blazing Birthdays and they seem to have every type of character you could ask for. The cost was $195 for an hour. At first, I thought that price was highway robbery, but it turned out to be the right amount of time for the kids to pay attention (and for the adults at the party to eat something). The bunny made balloon animals and led a "conga line" and did some singing and dancing in a circle. He also passed out the treat bags and posed for photos. He packed alot into that hour. I was happy with the service.

Clowns can be scary and I did read alot of glowing reviews of "Dale the Balloon Guy" on the internet. I believe his pricing was similar to the others and maybe he would wear just the red nose or a silly vest or tie to add to your carnival theme. Great choice of theme--should be lots of fun.
