Looking for a Good Home for a Boxer

I took in my cousins boxer because she was moving suddenly and could not take her with them, but because I live with my parents now and plan to move in an apartment when I finish school, I need to find her a good home. An apartment would not be fair and honestly I think she will end up being to big to even be allowed in most complexes. She is a pure breed brown boxer no papers (the big breed) She is great with kids, Very very sweet but needs lots of attention, or another dog to play with. She is about 9 months old and she is house broken! She does still have puppy habits and needs to be worked with as far as sitting and staying and other obedience lessons. If your interested and she sounds like a good match for your family let me know :)

K.,

My advice to you, and any other animal owners out there---regardless whether it is a dog or cat or other type of pet, is to please, please, PLEASE seek a reputable Boxer rescue in your hometown. They can assist you in finding the proper home for this sweet baby. A reputable rescue will actually screen the new owners, do a home visit, ask for vet and personal references and so much more. They even oftentimes insist on "compatability" tests and checks to make sure the pet will fit in their household. This world is just too scary out there. You can't trust people at all. Someone you may think may seem like a good home for the dog, when in reality, they may indeed be the type that would leave it unattended in the backyard or worse, a puppymill. Dog theives DO steal boxers too, unfortunately. These awesome working dogs are very handsome sweet animals. Please do not think I am "preaching" here. I have been with rescue for eight years running. Those of you in rescue circles may even have heard of me. I am known as "The Eskie Railroad Lady thats on Animal Planet teaching about transports". AP still airs it from time to time. Pet Story: Eskie Railroad. My dear sweet Miss Blossie, my Hearing Dog,and my soulmate, unfortunately passed on to the Bridge January 10th. She would have been 15 yesterday. <sighs> Good luck and I hope this advice is helpful to you as a suggestion and as an option. You could even advise the rescue that you are willing to temporarily foster, until the right home is found. (I actually encurage that--because we rescues are all volunteers, and often we are short on foster homes!) Hugs to the little baby. A shame that your cousin could not keep such a magnificent breed. My best friend is a boxer lover. I am suprised your cousin was not able to find a home where she could keep the dog. After all, our pets are our children. We would not give up our kids would we??? Think about that one folks. I do understand there are circumstances that are occasionally unavoidable. But sadly, "moving", is one of the most often given "excuses" for owner surrenders of pets to rescues, shelters, etc. Again good luck, and if you need any more advice or help finding a reputable boxer rescue, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Hi K.,
We have been looking for another big dog. Our 14 year old Husky past away about 2 years ago. We have a back yard and have a chihuahua. We miss being able to wrestle around with the big dog.
I like boxers because they are great with kids and my 4 year old daughter would love to play with her.

This might be random but if there is a way you can make sure her new home will get her spayed that would be great. That way you can make sure they are not going to use her to be a breeder instead of a family pet. Also boxers do not do so good outside in the houston summer so hopefully in her new home they won't mind her being inside. Just for your consideration. Good Luck!

You might also want to consider finding a Boxer rescue group to take her -- the folks involved with those types of groups tend to know what they are in for with this type of dog and may even foster her and find her a home.
