Hi Moms. I am looking for KDO or MDO programs in Johnson County. Would prefer Olathe but I am willing to drive. I have researched some and they all seem to follow the school year. Are there any that are all year long or just summer? Please suggest both. Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

Well I live in OP but we go to Valley View United Methodist on 95th and Antioch. It is pretty close to I-35, so it might make it easy to get to depending on where you're at in Olathe or if you drive this way.

Ours does follow the school year but they do have a summer program. I have done the summer program before and it's not great as it only has like 5 days of the summer, but it's something. I know that Rolling Hills Presbyterian on 95th and Nall has a summer PDO program and they have more options. I looked into for the summer and I know it's at least 1X/week for most of June and most of July.

I've been really happy with Valley View though. Both my kids have done/are in the PDO program and the preschool program.

My kids have attended Kids' Day Out at College Church of the Nazarene located at Lindenwood and 143rd in Olathe. Their program follows the school year but they do have summer camps also. They also have a preschool that is really good. The preschool is for ages 3 through 5. The kids day out is for ages 18 months through 4 years.

We do the summer programs at Ward Parkway (75th and Ward Parkway). T-W-Th, 9:00-1:00 (they eat lunch there), 7 weeks. Each week has a theme. You can pick as many or as few weeks as you like. The staff is great! We did it last summer and then my son is in Pre-K there right now. He is starting kindergarten in the fall but he can still do summer camp there.

I know Shawnee Mission school district has different summer camps that are 5 days a week for longer hours. It is held at Shawnee Mission South (was at East last year, so I'm not sure what kind of changes there will be). I don't think you have to be in the SMSD area to attend.

The YMCA has weekly camps at certain area JoCo schools.

Also, JoCo Parks and Rec has summer camps. Some friends of ours did the weeks at Antioch Park last year and liked it.

If you want more of a PDO/one day a week thing, Village Presbyterian (in PV) is highly recommended. They fill up quickly, though!

You may also see if a group of friends are willing to take turns hosting a drop off play group each week.
