Hi Moms!
Does anyone know of a good nut-free bakery in SE MI or where I can get a nut-free cake mix? There was a great little bakery in Ann Arbor and they went out of business. Any advice would be great!

What can I do next?

I have a 4 year old with nut allergies so I have learned a lot about what does and doesn't have them. The bake station bakery on 15 mile and Orchard Lake is great! There are no nuts at all so you can get anything from there. Also, there are a lot of mixes that you can use. Just read the ingredients and most importantly the allergen statement that will tell you if they are made in a facility with nuts. Cherrybrook kitchen makes great mixes and are nut-free (plus dairy and egg free), but their frosting is just ok.

I know that many health food stores offer mixes of many kinds (cake, brownie, pancake, etc., etc.). They actually turn out really good~ as I have used them. You could check Whole Foods or Good Food. Not sure of your location, but I don't hit the bakery as I love to bake myself. :)

My son has a nut allergy and I've always used the Duncan Hines Cake Mix (Moist Deluxe) - if you check the ingredient list there are no nuts products and the only allergen warning is Wheat. Now that does not extend to the Duncan Hines frostings...but the Betty Crocker frostings are fine. As for a bakery, there is one called Party Cakes on Coolidge in Berkley who can make a guaranteed nut-free cake...they are a little pricey though which is why I've gone with making my own.

Most Pilsbury cake mixes are nut free. You just need to double check the ingredient list. I always have problems with Whole Foods because most of their products are not nut-free. So far, we have yet to find ANY bakery due to issues with cross contamination. We make our own cakes. My son has a severe tree nut allergy.

HI Gina - I'm pretty sure that Bake Station on Orchard Lake Road, West Bloomfield, is nut-free and dairy-free. It's at Orchard Lake and Maple, in the same mall as Plum Market near a florist and UPS. Hope this is of help - Alison

There is a bakery in Berkley called Sugar Kisses. They don't sell cake mixes but they make tons of special cupcakes/cakes that are allergen free (gluten free, dairy free, nut free, etc) and they're very good.
