Hi Moms, I think I am going to enroll my 3 year old in martial arts classes. She is very energetic and I want to get her involved in something. I think martial arts is a super cool idea, and I love the fact that they teach discipline and respect. Classes start at 3 years old, but I am wondering if 3 is too young? Any moms out there enroll their kids at such a young age? Did your kids stick with it? Just looking for some feedback. Thanks in advance!

My son started at 3.5 and earned his black belt at age 12.
It was awesome for him. He learned self discipline, respect, honor, and more.
Do it!

My daughter got more out of gymnastics at 3 than dance or martial arts. She really wants to do martial arts again though (she is 5.5 now)... but is just too busy to fit one more activity in the schedule!

Our school, the classes start at age 4. If they are able to sit still and listen, and then do what they are told to do, then fine. My son started at 4, and he LOVES it. He's been going since February 1 and goes to class 2 days/week, practices at home (his own choice) everyday, and has asked for help from our 4 year old neighbor who takes gymnastics to help him with his shoulder rolls and jumping exercises. They "share" info together and play well. It's kinda funny. An exercise co-op.

My daycare offers karate once a week and both my son and daughter started when they were 3. My husband is a blackbelt in karate, so he was all about them starting. They both love it, but I would say that as long as your expectations are realistic about what they actually learn, then I would say go for it,. My son is 6 now and we have him enrolled in a school for karate now and I think he is probably a little more advanced than the kids that are just starting, but really, it is more about them just having fun and getting exercise. My daughter is 3 1/2 and has been doing karate for about 7 months and really loves it.
