When my son was 13 months old, he got a blood disorder called ITP. Basically, his blood stopped clotting. So, the morning after getting home from the ER from his diagnosis with strict orders to get him a CT scan if he were to fall hard or hit his head AT ALL, he tripped and fell and hit his head on the kitchen cabinet. His forehead was completely black and blue in the 3 seconds it took for me to pick him up off of the floor. Needless to say, we were headed right back to the ER for a CT scan of his head. Thankfully, he was not bleeding internally, but half of his face and head were bruised for about 6 weeks (because of the disorder, he was not healing quickly). It was awful! His arm was also one huge bruise from the IV he had to have in the hospital. He really looked bad. It was very hard to take him out anywhere without lots of looks from people, but I knew what had really happened and had nothing to be concerned about, so I just had to go about our business and not worry about the looks. We actually couldn't really go anywhere anyway because of his illness. The only place we went was to the children's hospital to the hematology department once per week for blood tests. Other than that, he was barricaded in our living room with no furniture so that he couldn't hurt himself again. It was a life threatening situation for him and very stressful for me!
I know it's hard to think people may be thinking the worst, but you have done nothing wrong, so you have to just ignore the stares. I'm so sorry your baby is hurt! Hope she's all healed up soon. Take care!
