Naked Baby, Help!

My 18 month old son takes his diaper off all the time, he's naked in the morning and after naptime and sometimes a few more times a day, he just doesn't seem to want them on anymore. He does sit on the potty a few times a day but has yet to go in the potty. I have tried everything, from pull ups to underwear, onsies to overalls, he has figured out how to get that diaper off regardless. I am so tired of washing sheets and cleaning floors, although i do have to say he has pretty good aim, he usually pees on the diaper he just took off, only on the outside of it not inside, so it rolls right off. Have any of you had experience with this? My older two never did this so i am clueless. any advice or suggestions would be great, until then, i will be washing and scrubbing.

My next door neighbor had the same problem. She used a type of reusable diaper with connectors to close it in the back. I think they may have been Fuzzibuns. It worked more than half of the time and set about potty training to finish it off.

I had the same problem with my oldest girl. I would put her diaper on backwards worked for a few days then I also did the duck tape, just make sure you tape all the way around so the ends of the tape overlap otherwise my daughter would find the end and unwrap it and make an even bigger mess.
Best of Luck I know this was not a fun expereince for me!

A friend of mine had the same problem. She used to put the diaper on backwards, and duct tape it closed. I guess you have to do what you have to do. I have heard that if you're serious about potty training, and you think he's ready, to let them run around naked for a couple days. If they start to go, immediately sit them on the potty, and give them a big reward for doing so, whether or not they actually get anything in the potty. Eventually they'll get it and want to sit and go on the potty just to get the reward.

Good luck!

He's too young for potty training, so you may just have to keep telling him to keep his clothes on. He may just be trying to be like his older siblings but missing the point in his exuberence. I know that my son wanted to go outside before he wanted the potty, and he never wanted to actually potty in his potty chair, just play with it.

My pediatrician told me she has seen parents who have had to duct tape their son's diaper on!!

Best of luck! Remember, this too shall pass...

This may be the worst suggestion ever, but I had a friend with the same problem, and so she used duct tape around the top of the diaper each time she changed it. I'm sure it was loose enough for the baby to be comfortable, but it stopped the problem altogether. Good Luck!

I have had 3 kiddos.

#1 didn't do this. BUT we did start potty training him at 19mos. He was able to run around the house with a long t-shirt on and pee pee int he potty by about 21 mos. Wearing diapers when we went out.

#2 and #3 do this and I got just some white Gerber onsies. They can't seem to get the snaps at the crotch undone. It might work.

Good Luck.

Duct tape his diapers. Put the diaper on him and then start the duct tape on the back and bring it all the way around and end it in the back.. remember not on his skin...

He is only doing this because he figured out how.. This does not mean he is interested in potty training at 18 months.
It is like his new trick..

It's amazing how much they understand even at this age. Explain to him what the diaper is actually for and why it's on his body. Tell him that when he soils on the floor, it makes allot of extra work for you and it's not healthy for the whole family - germs are BAD and they make others and him sick. Tell him that he needs to either go in the diaper or in the potty, that's the right thing. It may not work, he may not care - explain it calmly, with EXPECTANCY and let him know that you think he'll do the right thing. Sometimes kids will live up to your expectations!!

Don't fret! It's the best way to potty train, especially for boys. I know it's a lot of extra work right now, but he will be potty trained before you know it. :)
He had a choice, he could peepee outside in the grass or in the potty. The only problem was then teaching him that it isn't appropriate to drop his pants in public places.
They say that boys are the hardest to potty train, but I believe "naked potty training" is the best and will teach them a lot earlier then their clothed peers. Hope this helps.

L.,

I'm a couple of days late answering this, so you may have already gotten tons of advice... but... try putting the diaper on so that it fastens in the back. AND, for night-time wear, stick a piece of duct tape across the two tapes...

Good Luck,

T.

This probably means that he doesn't like the feel of a wet diaper against his skin. That usually means that he is ready to be potty trained. Also, at 18 months, it's time to make him clean up his own mess. He also needs to be rewarded for going in the potty. I used gummy bears. One for #1, two for #2 and three for both. The next time he makes a mess, give him a cleaning rag and a bottle of disenfectant and show him how to clean. You will probably have to do it over, but it is time to show him that there are consequenses for his actions. It sounds like he is enjoying watching you clean up after him. He thinks it's a game to him. Show him that the only game you want to play is rewarding him for actually going in the toilet (not a potty chair). Use a step and he will be able to reach it and there won't be anything for you to clean afterwards. But, when he is in bed and you really don't want to take his diaper off, use duct tape.

perhaps you can fashion a sumo thong thing out of long cotton strips to put on on top of the diaper and under shorts pants whatever. I hope this is a short stage he is going through. maybe he is ready to be potty trained? Do you have a little potty seat that goes on the floor? maybe put one in every room or at least a plastic container that would be recycled anyway.

Best wishes to you and I wish you lots of strength patience!

Peeing on the diaper is a willful act. It is not an accident. Therefore, I would punish the child each and every time this happens. A good swat on the rear will quickly do wonders, especially after he's pulled off that diaper. Praise him when he does the same aim in the toilet. He may be stubborn and you will have to have more resolve than him. But, if you're consistent, he will learn that you don't like this at all. You have to make him not like it either.

I'm sorry that I have no advice to give you since I only have girls... I'm sorry but the only thing I have to say is that from your perspective the situation is pretty stressfull, but for me from reading your note, I can only imagine your cute son being so mischievious... LOL I bet you he's adorable runing around naked... :) Hang in there this will pass.

Keep at the potty training. He's ready! My granddaughter did the same thing. Her mother, out of pure exasperation, started making her clean up after herself. The cleanup was, of course, supervised and while she was cleaning up her "accident" Mom would explain that you're supposed to sit on the pot, etc, etc, etc. (As soon as the granddaughter was back in her room playing, Mom would do her own cleaning of the area.) My granddaughter was totally potty trained within just a couple of weeks.

We just told our little boy he could not take off his diaper and used time out or a little swat to enforce it. He is now starting to potty train and doesn't seem to have any problem or potty fears or anything like that. We just made the rule that everyone in the house has to wear underwear/diaper and it seemed to go pretty well. Best wishes!!
