Need a Good Pediatric Dermatologist

I am needing a good pediatric dermatologist for my 3 yr old son. I have had no luck with my regular pediatrician. Let me fill you in. Since May my son has had some irritation in his diaper/pull-up area. We have been airing it out...using big boy pants...using A&D ointment, cornstarch, you name it. It got worse and worse. Finally lots of things looking like bite marks (contact dermatitis I'm guessing) popped up all around the immediate area. I took him in to his Doc and he quickly said, "looks like bug bites" gave me a steriod cream and sent me on my way. Went away almost and then came back...got a new cream from him...almost went away again. I finally went in during his sister's 2 month appointment and told him I thought maybe it was yeast (He was on antibiotics alot the last several months for ear infections). He said he didn't have time to look because of the holiday (this was July 3rd), but prescribed me Nystantin. Now after a few days of that day and night, my son woke up today looking like someone dipped his poor privates in scalding water. He is swollen and bright red and it is keeping him up at night and he is having trouble walking. I just don't know what to do, but I don't want to see my doctor again. He didn't even take the time to look at my son again. So I'm probably going to acute kids tonight to see what they say and in the mean time wanted to get the wonderful mom's on here to give me your thoughts as well. Thanks so much in advance. I'm hoping my little boy can start to enjoy his summer soon!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Okay...I know I don't have any responses yet, but Acute Kids says it is a Strep infection of the skin and we are going to treat it. Hopefully this will help. At least somebody looked at it (unlike my pediatrician).

She's worth the drive @ Medical City Dallas, but I HIGHLY recommend Betty Park as a pediatric dermatologist. I have used her for my oldest son & have an appt for my youngest. Her # is ###-###-####.

Good luck,

Poor thing! I agree that if the doctor refused to see him because of the holiday weekend then I would be through with him! Also, please get him out of the pullup. Warmth and moisture is a breeding ground for yeast and bacteria! Help him by going to the potty on a regular basis. Put plastic on his mattress. They also have Vusion (which is a new medication for yeast) in babies. Haven't tried it but worth a shot. See what the other doctor gives him tonite. but once it clears up, my company makes Elta Seal (www.elta.net) which creates a great waterproof barrier! Good luck!

Hello E.,

Please stop using the newest medication immediatly.

My little guy has a lot of allergy problem also. One medication made his skin blister instead of healing it. Came to the realization (after reading the instruction that came with the medicine) that he is actually having an allergic reaction with the new medication.

Praying for your little guy.

My son who is 10 wks old is currently seeing Dr. Bardan. My son has a port wine stain birthmark on his face. Dr. Bardan was very helpful in explaining this to us and what to expect over the years as there is no cure. She was super patient with us and answered all our questions. Never made us feel stupid with all the questions nor made us feel rushed. She took lots of time with us. We've only seen her once but I really liked her a lot. She told us a lot of back ground about herself as well. Never had a doc do that before. We are seeing her again this week for a check up. Anyway, here is her information.

Change pediatricians...IMMMEDIATELY!

A holiday weekend is no reason not to care for a child. Any doctor who would allow a child who was IN HIS OFFICE suffer so he could leave work a few minutes early does not get my vote. I'm sorry that he wanted to go home and I'm sorry that he didn't want to fill out a second chart but if he can't see that the child comes first he is in the wrong profession. Things come up...he needed to roll with it.

Can't recommend a dermatologist, but had a similar problem with my son who had been to the pediatrician twice and on all sorts of ointments. Waited 6 weeks for the pediatric dermatologist appointment but a few days before that I decided to try different diapers. Turns out that he was allergic to Pampers. Switched him to regular Huggies exclusively and added some Boudreux's Paste and the problem went away within a couple of days. So never went to the dermatologist. Good luck with your son!

Get rid of the pull up... he might be alergic to the pull up. Since he's having an alergic reaction to something, try making not wear his pull up and having him utilize the toliet.

Second. Try using Boudreaux's Butt Paste. I use this on practically everything and never have problems.

And ditch the doctor. Any doctor that refuses to see a patient especially someone that the doctor has seen before, does not need your money.

Good luck.
