My son is 19 months and will be going to a mothers day out program two times per week. I have to send cold lunches with him on those days. When he is home, I typically make him hot lunches. I need some ideas on cold finger food lunches for him.

Thanks in advance!

Besides the usual pb&honey sandwiches (none of my kids is really crazy about jelly), I usually make chicken nuggets once a week to send in their lunches. I heat them up as I'm making breakfast; let them cool while we continue getting ready; then throw them in a take-n-toss bowl and into their lunch boxes. If you want something even easier, you can pick up a box of nuggets from Chick-Fil-A the night before, then just throw them cold into the lunch box. I also like the lunchables Jrs. for my almost 2yo. In addition to the sandwich, nuggets, or lunchable, I always pack a bowl of fruit of some kind (usually fresh, but sometimes a tub of mandarin oranges), a stick of cheese cut into 1/8ths (except with a lunchable), pretzels or goldfish (or some kind of cracker, except with a lunchable, again), and a package of fruit snacks.

Hello,

My daughter is 2yo and her daycare doesn't provide lunches (only AM & PM snacks).

In her bag, she has a thermo where I store hot lunches (sweet peas with carrots and meat/ green beans / sweet potatoes) and an applesauce or a fruit. And she uses her fork and spoon to eat (her daycare keeps her silverware & plate) since she's 15 m.o

I don't want her to catch the habit of eating sandwiches.

I do this for my son, too. Here is what he eats:
PBJ on whole grain.
applesauce. I buy a big jar and portion it out.
Yogurt. Big jar, too.
Cut up fruit.
Cut up carrots, celery, and cucumber. With a little peanut butter to dip.
"Trail mix". Basically I get sugar free dried fruit and mix it up with cereal and goldfish.
String cheese.
Whole grain crackers and cheese.

I don't get lunchables because of the salt content and also because it's cheaper to make your own with better quality cheese, crackers, and meat.

I have found (to my surprise) that he will eat just about anything I send, even if he wouldn't eat it at home. i.e. the chopped up veggies. I think it's because everyone else is eating and he doesn't think about it. He's at an age where he "doesn't like" veggies. Only with me, though. Sighs.

It won't hurt to send the same thing all the time. They still will eat it.

Good luck!

Of course sandwiches are always a good idea or chips (Usual). You may also want to get the small boxes of raisins or fruit cups. Here are some other things I've given my son:
fruit bars, found in the cereal aisle
gummy fruit snacks
juice
apple slices with peanut butter (HEB has some prepackaged and ready to go)
carrot sticks with dressing
If you aren't sure if your son will eat it try it at home a night or two before you send with him. Sometimes I have put an ice pack in his lunch to keep things cold. Hope that helps.

Hot dogs, salami, bologna, carrots, cucumers, cheese sticks, clememtines (small seedless oranges), grapes, crackers, pretzles. My son is in 4th grade and still won't eat sanwhiches (he doesn't like the bread sticking to the roof of his mouth) and he doesn't like the school linch menu. He's a very picky eater. These would work for your son also; you'll just have to cut them up into smaller pieces. I put each item in a snack size ziploc baggie. Hope this helps.

Try hummus dip with veggies and/or pita, yogurt, cheese and crackers, fruit cups or fresh fruit, chicken or tuna salad. Also, Gerber makes something called pasta pick-ups. They are sold in the baby food aisle and can be served cold or warm.

I try to start my son with a hot breakfast since he eats a cold lunch at school. For lunch, I typically pack cheese, fruit, cold pasta and starch (crackers, bread). Sometimes, I'll pack him a bean burrito since the bean spread doesn't seem to spoil as quickly. I also pack a blue ice gel pack with his lunch.

I have not looked in the store but there was a product that was called lunch ables (plastic wrapped) in with the lunch meats. It had crackers, fruit, cheese and some slices of meat. This might be the thing that you are looking for you can and I did add a cookie for desert if there is not one with it.

Try lunch meat rolled into little tubes, edemame, cherry tomatoes, tortilla roll ups, pickles. Maybe start making him cold lunches once in a while at home, then it won't be so foreign!
Good luck!
