Need Gift Ideas for Carpooler

I am in desperate need of some different ideas for the family that helps take and pick up my son from school. I haven't been able to drive this whole school year, so they have basically driven him most of the time. I would like to do something for them to thank them, but I'd also like something that's a little more heartfelt and meaningful. I believe they are a family of six. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know, I would gladly appreciate anything.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I wanted to thank everyone for their help finding a gift for my son's carpoolers. I received so many ideas, I am actually going to use a few of them. We are going to get a big popcorn bowl and have their family name put on it. Then fill it up with all kinds of movie watching snacks, a couple of good movies, maybe a Blockbuster gift card, and then also a gift card from Walmart that they can use for gas. Thanks again for all of your suggestions! I couldn't have done it without your help!

What about a gift cert for a place like Chuck E Cheese? Or maybe even a gift card for gas and a couple of travel type games for the kids?

Make up a dinner basket. Include it in a ham, fruits, cheeses, crackers, jams/jellies, summer sausage, etc. If its another Mom that has been doing most of the picking up get her a giftset from Bath and Body Works. They have several new scents out. If the picking up has been both Mom and Dad then get them a couples massage or spa.

A family day at the zoo. A family membership is usually around 50.00 dollars and they can enjoy it all year. Plus it is cheaper than dinner and persoanl for their bunch.

Gas card for her favorite gas station? With the price of gas it might be a godsend.

Hi S., not sure of how much you want to spend, but a gas card (from Walmart) would be perfect, and since it's for carpooling, it's a great little theme. Walmart gives 3 cents off per gallon with the use of their gas card. Also a fun gift is a family movie package from AMC. It includes tickets, popcorn and drinks.

Hope that helps!

Cook them dinner and take it to them. There is nothing like a night off at home. To have dinner brought to you and you don't have to go anywhere is so nice. It always tastes great too, because the receiver didn't have to cook it!

I agree with the gift of a gas card and maybe even some car detailing service.

You could even offer to watch their kids so they can go out for a bit, that is if you are up to watching that many. :0)

If it were me, I'd appreciate more something I could really use; practical doesn't mean it's not heartfelt. A gas gift card & a car wash gift card would be awesome, I think.

Nice of you to think of doing something for them!

Goodies from Goodman: www.goodiesfromgoodman.com
has some really nice gifts that include food (fruit, nuts, snacks) and flower/plan options. Something like that would provide something for everyone - flowers for mom and munchies for dad and the kids. I've ordered from them often and folks have always loved the gifts.

Another idea would be a set of gift cards or one for a dinner out for the family, since it's quite expensive for a family that size to eat out. For example, Outback.

Hi S.:

I know you would like to do something personal, but, with gas prices the way they are, how about a gift card to a gas station and a homemade card from your son? Maybe a bag (how about a car garbage bag) filled with little items that we are always looking for in the car? Lotion, chap stick, kleenex, hand sanitizer or wipes, etc...)

Getting them something they could enjoy as a family would be fun. For instance you could make a movie basket with either tickets for the family to go to a movie or a gift certificate to a movie rental place, popcorn, and candy. Another idea would be gift certificate to GattiTown so the whole family can eat and play or to a bowling alley or a place like MainEvent.
That is great for you to think of them and want to do something nice!

getting her car detailed would be great or maybe buy her several car wash certificates. YOu could tuck the certificates in a great new travel mug and tie a ribbon around it.

Hey S., I think that nothing says heartfelt and meaningful than this: bake them a dinner one night, something in a caserole form, or something that would feed everyone. I would even make a cake or have the kids help make cupcakes, and take it to them, with of course a pretty card of thanks with all the kids signing it. um You could also give them a coupon(make it fancy) for a get out of the house day or night,by watching the kids. I feel that this is a very good way of showing how much You appreciate all they do.

Hi S.,

I have always found theme baskets to be great for a family. Like possibly a "movie night" basket. You can get a great family film they don't have. It doesn't even have to be current. Some of the classics are being rediscovered. Then you decide what else. I don't recommend a ton of sweets but popcorn and maybe some skittles or homemade goodies (with recipes). Then maybe a special bowl for the popcorn with their name on it. Or blankets or pillows they can use or whatever you come up with. The idea is to put some good thought into it, think about the personalities in the family, and tailor it to them. And if you can also tailor it so that it is something that will bring them together as a family I'm sure the parents will appreciate it (like "games", whether inside or out). It will be obvious to them how much care you put into it and will mean more that way.

Have fun with it and they'll be able to tell!

A GAS CARD! Everybody needs one of those now. I had three people who transported my daughter when I was unable to leave work to pick her up from preschool to take her to the babysitter. I made a nice thank you card and attached a gas card. They loved it!

I agree with the gas card as my first choice. Then the car detailed. Movies and pizza would be great for the family as well. But if it were me I would probablly do the gas card and maybe arrange for a sitter for the kids and let them go out for an evening by themselves. All parents need that sometimes. Good Luck!

I would absolutely love to receive a gas card from someone. You can get a giftcard from Walmart, and they give you about $.03/gal of gas, which goes a long way, and is also reloadable. Not only could they shop, but gas too!!! I'd think it was Christmas:)

Gas cards may not be all that "heartfelt", but probably very welcomed with a family of this size & all of the running they need to do, with a very warm appreciation card. Another idea would be a gift certificate for their family to do something really fun together-- movie passes, pizza & bowling, water park?

Depending on the ages of their children..... you might buy a family pass to the local zoo or The Science Place. Movie Theater tickets for the parents and volunteer to keep the kids for the evening so they can enjoy it.

Good luck!

S.,
With a family of six, the one thing I would say would be a good idea would be a home cooked meal. You could make a large pan of lasagna or enchilades and a large salad. You can go online to find a lot of really good and quick recipes so that it wont take several hours to prepare. Hoped this helps you.
