I believe my son's rocking chair is truly making my lower back issue even WORSE. There is very little support and each time i spend more than 15 minutes in that chair, i notice my back a bit worse.
ANY RECOMMENDATIONS? please.

What can I do next?

My sister in law and father in law bought us a glider with matching gliding foot stool. It was fabulous, but I noticed my back was getting sore if I sat too long while nursing or rocking both of my kids. Get a lumbar support pillow. I used the kind that is for necks, actually, and it made a huge difference. Keeping your feel elevated will help alleviate pressure in your lower back, and it will help with better blood flow in your legs and feet. (I am the Safety Coordinator where I work and Ergonomics is one of my favorite topics!) We got our glider from Babies R Us. I believe Walmart and Target both carry gliders.

I bought a rocker that looks like an old fashioned one because it matched the furniture. I could kick myself now, as my back always hurts as well. What I have done and in the interest of saving some $, I have used stuffed animals as lumbar. This has worked out so well and my back has not hurt since I did this. Hopefully, this may help as a temporary or permanent solution for you. I love my rocking chair and I am glad that I am able to keep it around.

Good Luck.

I also have a lot of back trouble, and find that if I can keep my feet from dangling down in the rocker I have less trouble. I have a foot stool that I use or I use the rocker recliner. I know how it feels to sit and be uncomfortable, and sometimes the smallest thing will bother me. Along with being pregnant you can have problems with the baby positioning, and the baby can cause you to get sciatica. Hope that this helps. And I would try this before changing chairs.

Hi R.,
Lower back pain is THE WORST! I sympathize with you. I have a bad back, and since my son's birth I finally started pilates.... You sound really busy and that is the furthest thing from your mind, but it is really working for me and I highly recommend it for when you are done with the pregnancy and staying at home.
For now make sure your legs are getting a nice stretch every day, if your quads and/or hamstrings are tight that pulls on your pelvis and causes lower back pain. It sounds simple but it really can help. Use a special lumbar pillow, they sell them at the back stores, and I think at office supply stores too. Usually you see people in offices using them.
Don't discount some light heat, I used those heat pad things you can get at the store that heat instantly, and wrap around..they helped at night. Stretching can be tedious, but you are worth it! So don't discount it!
Good luck with your family!! You will be busy! :)

Do you have a boppy pillow? I used one of these while pregnant and after for my back while I was nursing my daughter. For our chairs I would put it with the open end up and the closed end at the bottom of the chair behind me. It worked really well in our chair. It was a rocker, not a glider, so not sure it will work for you, but if you already have one it is worth a try. I am way past needing the pillow for nursing but held onto it for times when my back hurts and I need a little extra support.

The glider rockers ROCK. I haven't birthed yet, but I spend a lot of time in the glider I got, and I also have back issues - I can sit in it for over an hour without any pain, and it really helps my swollen ankles.

Before you spend your money on a brand new glider rocker, CHECK OUT WWW.CRAIGSLIST.COM - click on the "baby & kid stuff" under the For Sale section, and narrow the search to your area and search for "rocker" or "glider". There is usually a rocker or two available - I got a Shermag glider rocker with gliding ottoman, usually retails for over $450, for $80 (eighty, that's right!). It's not the color I would have picked out if I was going to buy new, but hey, just one more reason to knit/sew another afgan.

Also I bought a "My Brest Friend" nursing pillow, instead of a Boppy, because it has a part that wraps around your lower back, so it offers more support. (retails for $40, extra covers are usually $20 - I bought a barely used one plus an extra cover that I really like for $30 total at Child's Play on College Ave. in Oakland).

You may want to invest in a lumbar support pillow. I'm not sure you could find a glider chair with the support you need. And it sounds like you have continuing lower back problems, so it might be a good idea to have one for all instances.

Back pain is no fun. Good luck!
