Pillow Recommendations Please

Any suggestions for a pillow which holds up well? We’ve bought cheap ones and expensive ones and everything in between and after a few months they all seem to go flat or lumpy. Going to buy another set so I thought to see what you all recommend.

We don’t have allergies. Our apt runs hot so we’d sooner have something which doesn’t hold heat, as some materials are prone to.

Could it be that my expectations are unrealistic?

Thanks a bunch

I stopped using down/feather pillows years ago for just the reasons you listed - flat/lumpy and I was trying to fluffy them up all the time.

We currently use some latex foam pillows that hold their shape well.
Latex foam doesn't seem to warm up as much as memory foam although I think memory foam has been working on improvements and might be better than they use to be in that respect.
Sometimes they feel a little warm to me but not always - it's probably me and not the pillows fault.
For college our son got some new pillows for his dorm and he chose some gel infused memory foam pillows - he says they are perfect for him and don't hold in a lot of heat.

I would recommend a Memory Foam pillow. Lands End sells a good one (and they have a good return policy). At first it will seem *very* stiff, but sleep on it for a week or so and see if you like it after a few days.

I bought some $5 pillows from Target for my guest room and I test slept on them before I put them on the bed for guests and I was impressed. That said... they are not used regularly so I am sure they are ok only for short term.

I have a $40 pillow from Target that I like because it is similar to a memory foam and I like it because it is very cool when you put your face on it. Very soothing.

My others are all by Sleep Number, I have no idea which models but they were around $100-$150 each. Very good and long lasting.. They are sill a favorite after 3.5 years since I got my Sleep Number bed.

I have a pillow made from buck wheat hulls. Best pillow I've ever owned. My favorite thing about it is I can make a little hollow for my ear when I sleep on my side and my ear doesn't get sore lol :) Google them and see what you think!

I have bought down pillows from LL Bean. I find they lasted quite well. However, they come in different firmness levels - do not go with the least firm - that just squished out (not enough support).

I also bought something called a 'chamber' pillow one time from Lands End I believe it was. That was pointless - became flat and lumpy quite soon after buying. I don't think that was down.

Not everyone likes down. It does tend to feel hot (for me, now at my age, I find it not so good).

So I have just started going and buying from home stores (just those ones that sell name brands at discounted prices) like Ralph Lauren home pillows - two for a deal (in a package). I get the big fluffy ones (not down) and what I do is toss when get flat, but so far so good. Or you can wash if your washer is big enough (or access to one). Washing sometimes makes lumpy. By going this route (not expensive) I don't mind just replacing.

We have Mypillows for years now and they really hold up! You can also throw them in the washer & dryer! I also have satin pillow cases that work well in staying cool!! You can get both either on Amazon or Groupon! Happy sleeping!
