Hello- in the spirit of getting and sharing some useful info- what kinds of home remedies and quick fixes have you learned that have made life simpler for you? I have 3 to share:

1. I've posted this before- but it is a good one: best after bath baby lotion I have found: olive oil! Soaks in nicely after bath, and no additives whatsoever!

2. Skunk odor removal. (if you have a dog, who, like ours, has not learned his lesson after the first couple of times he chased a skunk) We tried expensive store bought stuff, soap and water, tomato sauce/juice, you name it. None of these helped all that much. The BEST remedy we found was posted online by a chemist, and we now keep the ingredients stocked and ready to go because it gets rid of about 95% of the smell (he always manages to get himself sprayed late on cold, dark nights when we are tired and just getting ready to go to bed...)
Here is the secret recipe that WORKS. Mix the following:

* 1 quart 3 percent hydrogen peroxide
* 1/4 cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
* 1 teaspoon liquid soap or dish detergent
* Mix these together and bathe ("shampoo" in or rub down) the spray victim thoroughly.
* Be sure to use this mixture immediately after it is created, as it is unstable.
* Rinse with tap water afterward, and repeat if necessary.
* For spray in the eyes, flush with water as soon as possible. (***DON'T USE this mix near their eyes.)

3. And finally- repelling ants. I don't know if this will work for the bigger ants, but we used to get trails of tiny black ants in our kitchen each summer. I mixed together water and cinnamon to make a thin paste, and then smeared it over doorframes and cracks wherever they entered. They won't cross it, even when dry. And it is non toxic to pets and kids.

So what do YOU have to share? Anyone know how to get ride of oil stains on clothing?

Thanks for the tips, C..

I have a remedy I use every time a member of my family has the un-stoppable runny nose (and if you have ever had a toddler with a runny nose, you understand why this remedy would be so useful)...

Take a basin or bowl that is large enough to fit both your feet into (I use one of those dish-washing rectangular plastic bowls). Fill slightly less than 1/2 way with warm water. Take an organic lemon and cut it (over the water). Cut in half then make an asterick cut in each lemon. Squeeze the lemons into the water until most of the juice is squeezed out. Drop the lemons into the water. Soak your feet in the water for 10 minutes (there should be enough water in the basin to cover your feet completely). You will find that this remedy helps drain everything out of your sinuses and relieves your runny nose for several hours.

When my neice was 2 1/2, I did this with her and she sat on my lap with her feet in the water. She thought it was fun and spent the ten minutes playing with the lemons. I did this at 7AM, and her nose did not start running again until 3 or 4PM.

(TIP: Use 2 lemons for an adult, 1 lemon for a toddler/young child)

The reason we use organic lemons is to avoid pesticides. If you have regular lemons, make sure you scrub them well before using them.

I have a bunch of kitchen tips if anyone is interested, message me and I will send them along (it's about 4 pages long). All sorts of things such as:

• Not sure if your egg is still fresh, put it into a bowl of water. If it floats, throw it out.
• When you are boiling pasta, potatoes, anything in your pots - put a bamboo wooden spoon across the top - it will prevent the liquid from boiling over.
o Drop a lettuce leaf into your cooked soup for the last few minutes and it will absorb a great deal of fat/grease.
