Possible Heat Rash on Tummy

Hi ladies. My 2 year old son woke up this morning with a rash only covering his front side (belly). They're small bumbs, kind of itchy. I'm quite certain it's a heat rash. He gets rather warm at night...especially lately, even with the AC on. What can I do about this? I don't think it could be anything else, but it may be. Any suggestions? My dr. isn't in today so I thought I'd ask the real experts...you!

Thanks so much,
K. H.

K.,

If you pull the skin taunght over the rash and it disappears than it is definitely heat rash. Also I used to use baby powder it help dry it up and also kept them cool. Good Luck

Cornstarch is the old-fashioned remedy for prickly heat, but I'd have him checked Monday if it goes on or take him to urgent care if he develops other symptoms.

Keep it mosturized. Vaseline or cocoa butter. Aloe actually burns when I put it on my heat rashes.

It is probably heat rash. However, fifth's disease resembles what you are describing as well. I cannot remember if it is accompanied with a fever. I had it as an adult and your whole body hurts like arthritis. Get it checked out if it does not go away by cooling him off.

Sounds like a heat rash to me. I would give him a cold bath with some baking soda (helps the itching). If it persists...try benadryl.

I can't say for sure what kind of rash it is with out seeing it... but if it is heat rash, which all of my children suffer from in the summer time, cool baths help, like 3 times a day if necessary. I have never had to use any medication. Keep him cool and shirtless if possible and it should go away on its own with in a day or 2. If he is extremely itchy, I'd just use cortazone.
Good Luck! Happy Summer!

If it isnt heat rash it may be eczema it thats it them hyrocortisone ointment will help. Another thought is he on any antibiotics? Usually allergic reactions appear on belly first.

Ok I would put cortisone cream on it. over the counter 10. If it doesn't go away take him in on monday. But if they get severe itching you may want to go on the web and bring up chicken pox and check out the picture of it to see. Also if it spreads all over him. But if your thinking heat rash I think cortizone would take care of it.

Just a thought...

My niece had what looked like a heat rash and it ended up being viral (she had a virus). We all had wondered if it was a reaction to laundry detergent, good, heat rash, etc. but the doctors tersted her for viral/bacterial infection. Just an interesting fyi in case your son's rash continues in spite of all the remedies you may try...you may want the doctor to look at it.

I agree with the other ladies, corn starch works for heat rash (both of my boys have heat rash often, they're hot-bodied kids!). I've put it in an old worn out sock to help apply it.
Also, 100% cotton clothing helps the skin breathe and keep kids cool.
Yes, if it continues, or there are additional symptoms, call your ped on-call or go to urgent care.

Good luck!
