Hi Moms:
I'm looking for good potty training books to read to my two-almost-three-year-old daughter. Any suggestions? Not "Once Upon a Potty," please.
Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thank you all for taking the time to respond. There are literally dozens of kids books about potty training to choose from - with my question, I was hoping to narrow it down by learning what books others have enjoyed.

We read a potty training book to my son when he was training, which he loved and asked to read together frequently - however, it was written for boys (talks about standing up), and has a noisy flushing button (which I found annoying), so I am looking for something else to use for my daughter.

The only book I remember was Everybody Poops, which my kids found HILARIOUS, though it wasn't exactly instructive.

I agree with Felinestroller.

We had the Princess Potty book (complete with a paper tiara) and a Dora potty book (with button that made flushing sound).

I can't really recommend them as being helpful - in my house, picture toddlers giggling over making the flushing sound (over and over ...).

Like Feline stroller what worked for us was letting them sit on the potty with a book for as long as they liked. One of mine lived on the toilet reading Thomas the Tank Engine books.

I think you have to resist the idea that a book will help a whole lot.

I agree that reading in general is a good thing. We had good luck with "Everyone Poops". Go to the children's librarian and ask her/him for suggestions, then take out a few of those books (you can borrow from larger libraries through free interlibrary loan), then buy any books you feel are better than the others.

And be willing to wait it out - not every child is ready before age 3, and many aren't ready for a while after that.

Big Girls Use the Potty! This comes with stickers.

Most of the books my daughter read were not specifically for girls:
Everyone Poops
Super Pooper
Potty Time!

My daughter had an Elmo book. It was a book and on the side you can push buttons and he said things about the potty like don't forgot to flush and wash your hands. She also had an Elmo dvd. She loved the dvd but I can't say either helped much. It was entertaining if nothing else. Good luck!!

I have noticed that you have no responses.

I suspect that is because there are very few books to read to a child on this all important (yet mundane) topic!

I would suggest that you and your daughter might try writing one 'together'. Illustrate it even.

For me, when potty training mine, in the bathroom I had plenty of general books for them to look at (or that I would read to them) as they sat on the potty.

Also, during summer months, I put potties out side by the pool.

Best luck!

Are you looking for a book to read to her so she will understand/comply with potty training? If you are, I'd let that go because she's either ready or not ready.

If you're looking for books to read while sitting on the potty then I would say just about anything works. We did have specific, potty time only books though so it would keep my kids attention in there. I bought a big I-Spy book and that was fun.

My kid had a pop up book where he would find the panda poop, the kangaroo poop the penguin poop etc. it was fun and kept him entertained on the toilet. We had the Elmo potty time video and made use of Daniel tiger too (via Amazon prime).

i don't know many people who read to their kids more than i. that's not a brag. i'm just a book addict, and having kids was a brilliant way to feed my addiction.
but i have zero recollection of using a book to potty train my boys. seems like an awful boring way to spend precious reading time.
what i did was read books they loved TO them while they sat on the potty.
but that wouldn't work either if the kid isn't showing some degree of interest in losing the diapers.
