Questions Regarding Crib Tents

My son is almost 20 months old and has figured out how to climb out of the crib. He is definitely not ready for a toddler bed. I was wondering how well crib tents work and if they fit all types of cribs. My son has a convertible crib so the back is higher than the front. Until he figured out that he could escape the crib, he had no problems going down for a nap and for bedtime. My son is tenacious and very curious (he gets into everything). Could he possibly tear it down? I would greatly appreciate any advice/information about this situation.

What can I do next?

I started using the crib tent on my son's crib when he was 20 months old in Dec. I LOVE it! Worth every single penny, as I'm sure it has saved him from a serious injury!!

As clever, stubborn and determined my son is, I can't see any way for him to figure out how to get out or tear it down. If I was going to try to tear it, I would grab the "honeycomb" pattern of the tent and try to pull it apart...but even then, I'm not sure I could tear it -- I think it has nylon threads.

We have a traditional crib. The specs on the tent said that we would be able to lower and raise the side of the crib, but I haven't been able to do so. Not a big deal for us, since our son stands up when we want to pick him up.

I saw some pictures with notes from a Mom on Amazon.com, showing how she used the tent with her convertible crib (since one side is higher). Here's the link. (This is the tent we bought at Babies R Us.)

In place of trying to modify the use of this tent model, maybe there are models available for convertible cribs. I might try a specialty company, like One Step Ahead.

Be aware of your son's potential reaction -- our son was angry as a hornet for a couple days after we installed the tent!! But now he doesn't know any different and we are all happier.

they will work on any crib, and contain the kid. They also make them for pack and plays. Babies R Us carries the crib one, but the pack and play one is only available online (amazon.com had the best price for that).

I used a crib tent for my daughter and it worked great! My sister tried to use it for her convertable crib from Bombay Kids and it did not fit. I would recommend buying one from a place that accepts returns, just in case. I do not think there is any way a child could tear the tent down. It saved us from sleepless nights and I highly recommend it. Good luck

Crib tents are great! We had to put one on my daughter's crib when she was about 17 months old. She loved it! When she was about 2-1/2 she figured out how to open it, but by then she was ready for a bed so we just switched her over. They are definitely worth the money.
