Race Car Birthday

For My sons Bday I went and bought a big coloring book of nothing but cars and then I took a pic. of a monster truck that was in it and then I made out of poster board made wheels it was a new twist on pin the tail on the donkey! the kids loveed it

I did a racecar party for one of my boys a couple years ago. The cake was really easy to do (think choc-covered donut tires, heh), and so was the decor. I used black and white streamers and balloons, and a white plastic tablecloth. I drew a racetrack on the tablecloth, with checkered flags and tropheys at the bday boy's place. I put toy cars along the track, that he of course got to keep. He loved that part especially.

We had a birthday like that when one of my boys turned 3 or four... and I like to make our cakes too. I used 2 round cakes and stuck them together, and made a figure 8 race track- sort of like a hotwheels track, and found some toy street signs, and made little flags w/ tooth picks, etc. put a few toy cars on there. It turned out really cute; unfortunately I don't have any pictures to attach; my ex confiscated a lot of our family photos... Just use your imagination- your little guy will just love it- go to the party store and buy all kinds of neat things!! I recommend the one next to Incredible Pizza.

try michaels craft store for a cake pan- you could always is the cars pan and just decorate it differntly- also the dollar store has a bunch of car and moster truck items right now :)

for a game- you could have a "race" with tirkes, cosy coupes ext and possibly even set up a race track for them

You might take a look at US Toy--they often have things besides the regular standard logo themes. They're not super cheap, but they're not super expensive, either.

Hi! My son had a Cars theme party for his 5th birthday. For decorations you can draw a road with chalk on your driveway or sidewalk or even use black & yellow duct tape; post road signs thruout the party area; use lots of checkered flags & white & black streamers. For games red light green light is always a fun one; you could have a bean bag toss using an old tire or a blown-up innertube ring lying flat on the ground that they toss the bean bags into the center of; you can also hang the inflatable tire & have them throw tennis balls thru; another easy activity is to have a bucket of cars available & some of the road playmats/rugs. For a craft you can have them decorate foam pennants with foam letters, numbers, race cars, flames, flags, etc found at Michaels. Another activity is to have a ramp where they can race hotwheel type cars. Mini oreos - or tires - make an easy treat. Hope this helps get some ideas started for you & that you have a great time!

Hi Carrie. We did something similar the year my son wanted a monster truck/car birthday. I found a picture of a monster truck and had it blown up and laminated. I then used construction paper to cut out tires, and we had pin the tire on the truck. They loved it! We picked up wooden cars from Michaels - they are a dollar a piece - then used painters tape and cardboard to create a downhill race track. The kids got to take their race car home with them. If you go to a party supply store, you can buy a pack of imitation hot wheels cars for cheap. You can "hide" them, and search for them, kind of like easter eggs. And if you don't want to make a race car cake, you could do a dirt cake with cars on top of it - you know, stuck in the mud. Or a sheet cake with a road on it, with cars on top.

I did the same thing a couple of years ago for my oldest, although I went with Cars. Famliyfun.com was a great resource! I used the race track cake which was super easy. You can play a spin of pin the tail on the donkey by pinning tires on a car. My family always uses pinatas. YOu may have to try a party store to stay away from commercialized car themes. You may have better luck and find better prices at online stores. A lot of times oriental trading has good stuff. Good luck!

We did the same sort of thing two years ago for my daughter. She loved the movie cars, but I don't like to get the licensed stuff either. One thing that worked out well for us was we got a couple of cheap checkered flags and then we spray painted a race track on our grass (it was gone after a mow or two). It kept the kids running. She was only 3 and we only had a few guests, so we didn't do too much else. I also used cupcakes as a racetrack and just put cars on them (but I'm not a very good artist when it comes to frosting!).

We did a Race Car Birthday last year for my son's 5th birthday and went with the black and white checkered flag theme with red accents. I got the B/W Checkered pennants strung together at Oriental Trading online. Also, we got the checkered paper plates etc. at US Toy in Overland Park KS, they are online too. They had a plastic banner that said "Welcome Race Fans" that was B/W with Red print. I used cheap red plastic table cloths and red plastic cups and then had the B/W checkered plates.

For the cake, I did 9x13 cake frosted white and put Hotwheels around the edges as a border used a decorating bag/tips to write Happy Birthday.

As for games, we made "race cars" out of boxes for the kids to step into and race around. I got cardboard file storage boxes, cut out the bottoms, spray painted them in red, black, silver, and white. Decorated them with numbers on the side, covered cardboard circles with foil for head lights that was it. The kids stepped into the box, used the handles that were already in the file storage box and ran around with the box around their waist as if they were race cars. They LOVED it and we did little relay races etc. and everyone had so much fun just taking turns running around in the "cars". Have fun and let me know if you want to see pictures of our party.

Last month I attended a 3 yr old boys party & his aunt made a cake for him with green frosting with a black 3 in the middle & used mike & ike candy for the center line. She put match box cars like lightning mcqueen & others on top. looked really cute!

I would search for "race car" parties. some sights I have used are

party 411, Familycorner.com, familyfun.com and for crafts oriental trading online or just Michaels, Joann's or Hobby Lobby. There is a website and unfortunately I can't remember what it was but I did a search and it was so helpful. Basically it was a listing of all different kinds of parties and people wrote in about what they did and I took several ideas and incorporated them into what we wanted.
