Hi! I'm a first time Mom and I am in the process of looking at nursery furniture. Does anybody have any recommendations of places to look? Honestly, I'm not sure of a lot of places that sell baby furniture. Your help is appreciated! Thanks!

What can I do next?

I purchased Childcraft Legacy nursery furniture from Babies 'n Beds in Bartlett. They have a big selection of many different higher quality furniture. They also deliver and set up the furniture, which is really nice.
I am very happy with the stuff I got, and I would recommend buying a "lifetime" or "convertible" crib. They convert to a toddler bed and then into a full sized bed. That way there is no need to buy different pieces later on.
If you lkive in a 2 story house I would get a Pack 'n Play for downstairs. I purchased one at Babies R Us (but they are available everywhere) and it is perhaps the most used piece of baby furniture I have. It has a bassinet and a changing table so it saves me LOTS of trips up and down my stairs.
Here is Babies 'n Beds website. The guys who work there don't look like the type to be experts in baby furniture, but they were very nice and helpful. They have a new store in Elmhurst too.

Congrats on the baby. I just had my first Sept 8th and it is the most amazing experience.

I bought my daughter's nursery set at JcPenney's. Good quality, not as expensive. Plus her crib converts into a toddler bed, and full size bed.

Babies R Us has a large selection. Honestly, anywhere that sells furniture usually has a section for nurseries. If you are shy on money a "pack and play" is awesome in a pinch because it usually has a basinet, changing table and playpen all in one. They run close to $200.

I would recommend Belini. I went to them in Glenview but I believe they also have a city location.

We got our Legacy crib at My Own Little Room in Orland Park also. I really did not want a convertible crib, and they seemed to be the only ones with a quality selection.
I have heard good things about ordering from JCPenney, but was set on wanting to see the crib in person before buying it.
If you have not seen it already...take a look at the Baby Bargains book by Denise ane Alan Fields. They have great recommendations and give you suggestions on what to look for in a crib. I am a first time mom and didn't know where to start w/o that book. Good luck.

Congratulations, S.!

I had my first child this past September, so I was in your shoes not to long ago. We went to a number of stores looking for nursery furniture and found it to be incredibly expensive. We ended up using normal furniture. We bought a set of oak furniture that had a shorter and wider dresser that we put the changing pad on and her clothes in. We also got a lingerie chest because I loved the piece and it fit in the room so well. We use it for crib/bassinet sheets, towels, wash clothes, burp clothes, etc. We also have the nightstand in our daughter's room next to the crib with a lamp and small CD player on it. We also purchased the bed frame for the future. This way the furniture will last much longer for the cost.

Good Luck,
D.

Babies r us has a great selection at reasonable prices (big one at Fullerton/Narragansett or one on Touhy west of the highway). Land of Nod and Pottery Barn Kids are lovely and durable, although priced higher. You can see their stuff online before you go the store, then find the store closest to you.

I purchased my nursery furniture at a store in Orland Park called My Own Little Room. It's a bit on the pricier side, but I figured I'd spend a little more on furniture that we'll keep until our kids are tweens. Our nursery set has been used by both children and we just switched our youngest into a "big girl" bed that matches the set. We went back to the same store to buy that piece as well. And, I must say, the employees were very helpful.

Good luck.

We bought a crib, changing table, and dresser at Babies R Us that has lasted two babies. We bought a cheap glider and ottoman at WalMart and recovered the ugly cushions. It has also held up.

I would recommend thinking about what you think you will really use. A changing table is nice but ours is upstairs and we are downstairs so it is rarely used. A crib that converts to a toddler/big bed is nice but if you plan to have more kids later most likely you will only use it as a crib so no need to pay the extra $$$. I really recommned and glider and ottoman if you plan to nurse, it makes it so nice to have a special, comfy spot.

I have seen some really cute stuff at Ikea as well as the Pottery Barn Kids stores depending on your price range.

Congrats on the new baby!

Babies R Us is okay- (not the best selection of cribs though) We got our Daughter's crib from JCPenny (crib & matress both under $200!!)Have you tried The Baby's Room?

Go online, you'll find some great deals, at Target, JcPenny, Wamart, Sears ,ect.... Sometime you can even find free shipping - which helps alot for those heavy items cribs ect....
We got a bedroom set- nightstand, mirror, 2 dressers,& bed elsewhere for when she's older)

Check out L'il Deb 'n' Heir, on Ogden in Naperville. Goofy name, but they've been in business about 50 years and their employees know their stuff. We bought our nursery furniture there this summer. They have a really good selection of quality stuff (better stuff than Target & Babies R Us) in a variety of price ranges. We went with Munire brand because I'd read it's good quality for the money, and we're very happy so far. Good luck and congrats!!
