Recommendations on a Psychiatrist Sensitive to Women's Mental Health

Thank you very much for reading this request. As a mother and a woman, do you have a reputable psychiatrist (MD) that you can recommend? I was advised by my OB to see one so that I may get the medications I need to treat PPD, but she was unable to give me a referral?!? Hmm, it’s a bit sad that I have to resort to asking on this message board, but alas I receive great recommendations from moms like you who are in the trenches dealing with these issues first hand. So any recommendations would be greatly appreciated from Moms that have been there, done that. I am trying to see a provider located in the Marietta/Roswell/Sandy Springs area.
Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

In addition to a psychiatrist, you should go to a therapist who has experience with this type of thing.
I STRONGLY suggest Catherine McCall. She specializes in treating women w/ PPD and is recommended by all of the midwives at North Point OB/GYN.

She is located in Roswell.

Here's another recommendation for Dr. Sandra Diehl. She IS a terrific doctor. When I questioned whether or not my issues might be more bipolar in nature, and left a message with her receptionist in this regard, I received a phone call back within the next couple of hours from Dr. Diehl asking for me to come in to talk with her. Now THAT is a great doctor.

PPD is a horrid malady to be dealing with. I can speak personally about that. I currently take Prozac, after having been on Lexapro for the past six years. The Prozac works quite well.

Good luck to you G.!

I don't usually do this but I do not recommend the office of Brian Kennedy. I received such slow bad service at the front desk that after waiting an hour we left. I never saw the doctor so my comments are not about him but how the office is run and the shabby condition of the interior part of the building. After I started complaining they admitted that my insurance was preapproved before I came in. Their original excuse was that they were waiting for the insurance to answer the phone. I talked to the staff three times over the phone and they could not give me any information on what the first visit would be about, what a psyc/edu eval included nor let me talk to someone else that may have those answers. Finally after I told them what I knew they let me know that a psyc/edu eval would take longer than my 30 minute appointment. The staff is cordial but unhelpful. I have talked to other psyc office that easily answered these questions and educated me beyond what I asked.

Hi,
If you are planning to go through therapy as well as take medications for PPD. I know of a great therapist (LCSW). A therapist works with an MD to get you the medications you need after an evaluation. The reason it is usually better (at least $$$ wise)to go through a therapist is because insurance will cover multiple visits with them and not with a psychiatrist. Her name is Elizabeth DeLuca and she is located in Woodstock which is near Marietta. Her # is ###-###-####. I completely understand if you would prefer to go through an MD but Elizabeth is a wonderful person.

You had listed Marietta so Smyrna is kinda near but I thought I'd give you the name of someone, it's not like you'd have to see them all the time kinda like the dentist maybe once every 6 months or once every 4 months anyway this man is really kind...I usually don't recommend men very often but when I find one that's understanding and will listen and not judge I give out their name. Dr. Brian T Kennedy, MD 3188 Atlanta Rd 30080
###-###-#### he's in the field you are requesting. take care.

Dr. Sandra Diehl is wonderful. I have had her for 2 years and she's been amazing. Her office is a little out of the way, she's off Canton Rd. across from Kennestone Hospital, but I think she's worth the drive. (Seriously, I live in Norcross but I go see her.)
She's always returned my calls promptly and checked on me when I had issues with medication. I highly reccommended her. http://www.psychhealthpros.com/team.php

Her name is Linda Winship, & she's in the Smyrna area...yes, it may be a little drive, but she is soooo worth it!!! Literally, I wouldn't be here, & sane, without her!
I've been in "mental health" most of my life, & she's the 1st person in almost 15 years that I've found that I can talk to -
