Red Spot on My Sons Face

My 8 yr. old son recently has had a little red dot on his face. It's about the size of a freckle. I really notice it and have no idea what it is. It doesn't look dry or irritated. He said it does not bother him. But it just never goes away. My Mom said it looked like a broken blood vessel maybe. Should I just take him to the doctor? Anyone have any idea what it is?

What can I do next?

It could just be a red mole or some other pigment spot. Don't worry about it unless it grows or changes shape.

K.,
My 13 year old son has the same spot on his face, thats been there for a couple of years. When i took him to the doctor, she said it was nothing to worry about , and that it was probly a broken blood vessel. Please dont worry about it being anything bad until you have the Dr look at it. It will make you feel better once the Dr confirms there is nothing to worry about.

Hi K.,
From what you describe, it sounds like a broken blood vessel to me too. I have had several of these, and the doctor says they are harmless and painless.

hey K., i read a lot of the responses and thought that the "hemangioma" sounded familiar to me so i looked it up to get a picture of them. at a drs visit i just happened to ask what the little red freckles on my chest/arms/chin...were called and he explained to me what they were.

when i just looked up the picture of a hemangioma or "strawberry hemangioma" and that is NOT what i have at all. it expressed that those can be common in newborns but typically go away by toddlerhood. those pictures didnt look at all like what i have and what i think your son has.

soooo i kept looking and typed in "red freckle". i found it!!! its often called a cherry angioma. you should look those up and see if the pictures look like what your son has.
this is one of the sits i looked at.....

Us mothers worry over the littlest things. Most people say we are crazy, it is nothing, we worry to much. Well that is our right. So I have always done what I thought I should do, but also take all other advise and listen and try it.
To ease your mind, call your doctor and ask him if you should have it checked out frist. That way that little re spot won't become a mole hill for you. If the doctor says, nothing to worry about, well that phone call just saved you an office visit. So now sit back and take all the and take all the advice you will be getting FROM ALL US WONDERFUL MOM'S.
good luck

Hi K.,

If it worries you, take him in. I myself have always gotten those little broken blood vessels. They stay for a year or so then simply go away. I have fair skin so they are easier to see. They are never painful, don't change and don't stick out like a mole, like you said, it just looks like a small red freckle. I can't feel them at all actually. My mother told me that they are just a small blood vessel as well.

The best thing to do is what I did when I had a similar thing on my face. I went to the dermatologist, and they "burned" it off with dry ice. It wasn't that painful. You do not want to mess around with it. Any spots like that I find on my body, I have burned off. The dermatologist can also tell you what it is.

1) spider vein (angioma) nothing but a broken capillary, & of no consequence. Just ask you doc next time he's in.

2) food allergy (wheat) My son was born with this, & no other symptom. wasn't til he was 13 that he was diagnosed, put on a gluten free diet. Then it was gone for the first time, (although there was a cream that made it go away until he ate wheat again. Simple test: give him something beside bread & pasta for 2-3 weeks, Rice, corn, potatoes, veggies & meats, nuts, fruits. if it goes away or diminishes, I'd have him tested. Celiac.com will give you more info.

otherwise, if it doesn't bother him, don't worry. Some scratches scar & don't go away, (a picked zit for example) although it should fade over time.

When I was a kid I used to have a "strawberry mole" on one of my right knuckles and one on my forehead. I have never really paid attention to them. As I aged, the one on my knuckle dissapeared. Genetics are funny, my son has a "strawberry mole" on the same knuckle. Nothing to worry about, there is a medical name for it, but I forgot what it is. I don't know if that's what your son has, but it might be.

My son would get this periodically. I took dairy away and it usually went away in 1-2 days. If it didn't, I removed wheat and it did. We have since found out that he can not have gluten....big allergy. I'm waiting to do another blood test for other allergies.

My daughter had something that sounds similar when she was 5 or so - the doctor called it telengectasia (sp?). It's gone or at least unnoticeable to the eye and has been for years (she's 13). I don't think it's permanent but go to the dr and you'll be able to stop worrying!

We have these too. If it's what I think. If it looks just like a freckle but is red instead, it's just a variety of (usually harmless) freckle. If it worries you though, go see the doc and get a professional opinion! Trust your mommy-sense. It's often right!

Hi K.,
I am a mother of three, and seem to have been through several medical situations. Some worse then others. My eldest son, at 5, had a bump appear on his face. at first it appeared to resemble a misquito bite. after a week of not going away I became concerned. I took him into the doctors office and found out it was a cist. He recommended placeing a hot rag on it several times a week and informed me it should just go away. After several months of it flaring up and just getting bigger and redder I discussed with the doctor about it. He said it became infected and needed to be removed. My son had to have sergery to remove it. I cant say this is what your child has but to say please go talk to your doctor if you seem to be concerned. My son is now 14 and still bares the scare from the sergery on his face. Maybe your doctor can help you with your childs red spot before it becomes more then it should.
Sincerely
T.

Dear K.,

Melonie here, I am the mother of 3. A 19 year old Girl, 17 year old boy, and a two year old boy. The 17 year old nearly died from childhood disease shots and is motor sensory disordered with dislexia, and a bunch of other troubles that have kept me home as a mother/teacher and unable to expand our family as we desired until he was old enough to be with his father on the job of general contractor. Just a bit about me.
To answer your question about the little red spots- they are liver spots. It is a sign on the skin that your sons liver is slowly failing and is unable to keep up with the load of toxins in his environment. Bad water, bad air,(Smog) and bad food choices, childhood disease shots and medical drugs are killers of the liver. 20 years ago we only saw these kind of spots on 90 year old people in nursing homes now due to vaccines, drugs and environment they are on even children.
With my 17 year old son who had alot of damage to the liver, and had many red dots on his body. I took caster oil and spread it over the right side of his body (liver area) and put a hot wash cloth over it then a wool cloth and a thermafore and heated the area for about 20 minutes a day then rubbed the area down with ice for 30 seconds. It made the difference, his liver began to work after nearly a month of this treatment. I also gave him a liver cleanse as found in the book "Cure for cancer" By Hulda Clark. It consists of 1 cup fresh squeezed grapefruit juice in 3/4 cup virgin olive oil gentley shaken together and drunk before retiring at night. But if you want to clean all the sledge out of the liver without pain they seggest drinking one teaspoon of epsom salts in water every two hours starting six hours before the oil and juice is drunk. That opens the gall bladder and liver doors by relaxing the muscles. You might want to do a study of this as liver cancer is extreamly fast, very painful and very fatal. God bless you go with God! Love and prayers, Melonie and family

My son had one of those smack in the middle of his cheek. It was there for the longest time! I just kept my eye on it to make sure it didn't get bigger, irritated, or any other changes that would make me suspicious. It eventually went away. I think your Mom is right. My son was the same age as yours, and it lasted for months. If it doesn't change, I'd leave it. If it changes in any way, have him seen.

We call these "Learn Dots." Because everyone in my hubby's family has them, and I had one show up right after we got married. My daugther was born with a couple of them, and our doctor said they're no big deal. Kind of like a birth mark.

Hello I have some red moles. I have asked the dr about them and she said they are hemmangeomas not sure if that is spelled correct. They are actually from cells from the mothers plecenta. They are Usually harmless. Although sometimes they grow but very rarely and just need to be removed if they grow large. Also my daughters Birthmark was a cluster of them on her hip and the Dr. said they would go away as she got older and they almost all have you can hardly see them.

K.,
It sounds like my daughter. One day she just got a red spot on the bridge of her nose. It was a little bit raised, looked like blood pooled into a teeny tiny spot.
We did eventually take her in to see a dermatoligist and she called it a broken blood vessel, or spider mole. She offered to "fix" it, but our daughter wasn't down with that idea at the time. It was a little pointy electric thing, like a zapper or something. She also said that eventually it might go away on it's own. That they are not uncommon and tend to appear durin growth spurts of life, so in children and teenagers, though I got one in college too. (I poked mine with a needle, and it healed;-))
Best Wishes!

My friend has many red freckles as well, I have a few myself....she was told by a naturopath that it is related to parasites, the skin is a big indicator of the inner condition of our body so this is one sign that their is a parasitic condition, apparently. And as fate and great luck would have it we were at a party last weekend and met a man who has a company that carries a variety of health products and he was very excited about a new cleansing kit that he is now carrying. It's only $20 and will last a large family/ group of friends a whole year! The man who began to bring this out to the public took this to Africa where 75,000 were healed from everything from malaria, to aids and parasites! Is that not TRULY amazing!!! For pennies for a day this miricle mineral supplement will attack and kill cancer, parasites, candida, viruses, molds, heavy metals, environmental toxins and cleanse them from our bodies!!! I'm so excited to get going on this.... this is a link to a brief youtube about MMS : videohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeZsY7iMiqc
the feedback on MMS on the youtube page (scroll down to read after the video plays) sounds really positive! My friend who is distributing this here int he rogue valley has seen amazing results himself, as well as his partner. I want to tell everyone about this stuff, it's so important for our health!

In wellness,

My 9 year old girl and 5 year old girl have the same thing if it is what I'm thinking. I checked with my doctor and she said it wasn't anything to worry about. My son had something similar on his arm a couple of years ago. Does it bleed when scratched or rubbed? If it does bleed, how long does it take to stop bleeding?

If 'Yes' and 'Quite a while' are the answer, then take him to the doctor. My son had to have it removed; which was easy and fairly painless. If 'No' and 'Normal', then your Mom is probably right. I have a blood vessel that grew outside the under layers of skin. As long as it is left alone I have no problems with it. If you are concerned cosmetically for your son, have the doc remove it anyway.

Good luck.

I would think it is more then likely a spider angioma which fairly common and can go away on their own. A test you can do at home to tell is apply firm pressure and slowly move your finger across it, the pressure will make it "disappear" for a moment and then it will fill back up. My daughter has multiple ones on her face, she is 6, and they cause no pain or discomfort.
