Redness Irritation on the "Sunflower"

Well I have a boy. But he had a really bad diaper rash a few weeks ago. And what worked wonders was California Baby's Calendula Cream and Avalon Organics Diaper Cream/Balm (it has the most zinc oxide than any other product without harsh/toxic chemicals). The way I did it was I put the calendula cream on first and be real generous and leave a thin layer that is visible too. And then on top of that put the diaper cream/balm but blot it so as not to rub or smear away that layer of calendula cream. My mother in law was just commenting how awesome his little butt looks these days. And I like these two products because they are natural with no chemicals or toxins. I use everthing organic and natural without chemical, etc. for my son and I'm happy with the products and feel good about using it on him. Oh, also, I stopped using "Huggies" wipes and went to 7th generation and/or 365 degrees brand from the Whole Foods store. Both wipes have no alcohol and are non-irritating and have aloe vera in them. Hi, Beata. OK. I'm not sure what the sunflower is - I'm assuming it's part of her vaginal area. I also am not familiar with Mustela products so I'm feeling quite clueless here.

However, my daughter is almost 22 months and she often gets irritation in that area. It can happen because of what she ate (new fruit juice, too much fruit or spaghetti sauce), what I ate (I'm still breastfeeding too), if she poops and doesn't tell me and wears the dirty diaper for longer than a few minutes, etc. She also gets a bad diaper rash if she's teething.

I use Boudreaux's Butt Paste and it generally clears up after 1-2 applications. I also keep some sensitive wipes on hand (no dye, no fragrance) because those hurt less when they're sore. My little one has very sensitive skin and if she has a bad rash, even gentle wiping hurts her. It's heartbreaking to see them in pain, but of course you have to wipe and apply the ointment.

I think it's just a normal part of life but if you're concerned you can always consult her pediatrician.

Believe it or not, it might be a yeast infection. My daughter had a slight one when she was 4 months old and the pediatrician told me to use Monistat. This freaked me out a bit since I didn't use Monistat until I was in my late 20's! But it cleared up in just a day or so. If you see some small white bumps, it's probably a yeast infection. See what your doc recommends, but you can probably go ahead and try the Monistat. Good luck!

I'm not sure, but here are some ideas. One, if she's most exposed to irritants in her single overnight diaper, maybe do her bath in the morning? Fine a place where an accident isn't a problem and let her air out? Make sure she drinks enough (especially your milk and water) so that the urine isn't as concentrated?
