We are going to the beach in June and need to find a place for my jack russell terrier to stay while we are gone. Does anyone know of a good place to board her, that is also affordable? We live in Grapevine.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We took our dog to Kennel Kare in Roanoke and loved it! They are caring and helpful, my dog seemed happy when I picked her up. Very affordable and clean facilities. We have used them twice already and will continue to use them in the future. Thanks for the suggestions!

I take my golden to PetsHotel in Petsmart in Southlake. It's a great place and he seemed very happy when we dropped him off and picked him up. I also thought the price was reasonable compared to some other places I used before.

Family Pet Clinic on NW highway next to Sonic. I love them! They are like family and treat your dog as such. They are also cheaper than anywhere else I checked. We left our dog there for our trip to Mexico. He just walked right in and felt right at home.

Have you ever tried a pet sitter instead of boarding? They'll come to your home and do whatever you need. Danielle Chonody is the owner of Protecting Max Pet Sitting. She's Bonded and Insurer and all her sitters are great. They treat your pets as if they were their own. The best part is that your dog gets to stay home in their comfortable and familiar surroundings. It's always a much happier situation for your pet. Her number is ###-###-#### and her website is www.protectingmax.com.

We use Canine Country Inn in Argyle. The owners live within 100 feet of the kennels, Their prices are VERY reasonable, they have indoor/outdoor runs, they get play time in the larger yard daily, Bob keeps the runs clean, he'll do pick up and delivery if needed, special foods, medications, snacks, etc. You can check out their website at www.caninecountryinn.com. Call Bob at 940/464-3139 for reservations and tell him the "green bean dogs" (Bud & Lexie) referred you. Our dogs love visiting with Bob and have for several years.

canine courtyard in highland village is great. outside is not very promising but all the kennels are clean and inside. they have outdoor play and above ground beds and you can bring whatever you want them to have there. last time i used them it was 20/day. also petsmart is good. i do not like the one in southlake. we picked out dog up with bloody paws. they ignored him to the point where he was inflicting pain on himself. the petsmart in lewisville was always great though.
hope some of this helps!

Fireplug Inn in Southlake. They only accept dogs under 25lbs and the people there are wonderful. They also do doggie daycare and grooming. We have never boarded there but love the place. Good luck!

Hi S.,

I'm in Grapevine too and know a fantastic lady who boards our dogs. She only takes in small dogs right now so Jack Russell would be just the right size. She's also a trainer who will come to your house for training if that's ever a need. And she is VERY affordable. Her name is Terry Baltzell, her company name is Luv a Dog and her phone number is ###-###-####. Tell her M. Curtin sent you!

may i please suggest an alternative? i know you are looking for boarding but i would like to suggest a pet-sitter. You can find them anywhere these days. i worked at a vet that provided boarding for years. the animals rec'd great care-TWICE A DAY. Your pet is confined in a cage in an unfamiliar setting with other animals and people that are only there for a paycheck. with a petsitter your pet can stay in the comfort of your home in a familiar setting. boarding really takes a toll on your beloved pets. i hope you will consider this.

I always use Daisy Pet & House Sitting. It wouldn't be boarding but they come to your home as many visits as you'd like, walk your dogs, play with them, feed them, check mail, water plants..whatever you need them to do. They're comparable to boarding prices but your pet gets to remain in the comfort of their own home. I love them.

We've always had good experiences with PetSmart Hotel in Hurst. I haven't used the one in Southlake, but I'm sure it's probably great too. They have great packages for treats, walks, and playtime; you can even call and talk to her on the phone if you'd like! :) Make sure she gets her kennel cough vaccine. They have a every 6 month policy on that.
Also, have you thought about boarding her at your vet's office? They may not have as much play and walk opportunities as Pet Smart, though.

Not sure what price range you're looking for but PetsHotel in Petsmart in Southlake has always been pretty reasonable, we used to take our dog there until we found a good friend and house sitter. There have been a few times she hasn't been able to watch our dog so we've been taking him to Kennel Kare in Keller. kennel-kare.com They're reasonably priced, $18 a day, you can add additional play time etc for a fee which we generally do. We have a scotty so I know how terriers are! Their kennel runs are indoor/outdoor. He's always healthy if a little hoarse from barking with the best of them when he comes home but we've never had a problem with taking him there he always came home from PetsHotel the same way. (Bring a blanket or towel from home for comfort.)
