Try Bare Minerals/Bare Escentuals. The initial investment may seem like a lot $60.00 for the starter kit, but it is worth it and lasts longer that the sales girl said it would. Prior to buying it, most women that I met that I had compliemented on their complexions, replied with "I use Bare Minerals/Bare Escentuals". That was what got me interested. The make up really works. When I first bought it I had to go to a salon to find it (they will do a demo for you) but I just saw the eye shadow kits at Target last week, so they may be carrying the whole line. You can also get it online. I really love it. Good Luck

Do you wear hair products?

Stop using hairspray especially if you do - you'll notice a huge difference in a week.

Foundations today are pretty good, but maybe you need something like Almay.

Good Luck with that - I suffered with that till I was 32-ish years old.

I have sensitive skin & would HIGHLY recommend Arbonne's "About Face Mineral Powder Foundation". Arbonne products are all natural, botanically based products so you don't have to wonder what else has been added to them. It comes in 15 shades and has a natural SPF of 15. I've been using it myself for almost 2 years now and I LOVE the coverage & way it makes my skin feel. I used to use Mary Kay and will never go back. The coverage using Arbonne mineral foundation is even (no blotchiness)and blends so well that you don't have the make-up line on your jaw line that you get with some other brands. Better yet, the mineral foundation includes the kabuki applicator brush, so you don't have to go purchase one separately! It's great stuff!!

I have very sensitive skin myself, having both acne, and rosacea. It's really hard to treat one without irritating the other.

I started using mineral foundations about 3 years ago, and the first brand I tried was Bare Minerals. Everyone loves it because they don't know what else to compare it to. I didn't love it myself, and didn't understand what all the hype was about. It was not until I came across Susan Posnick cosmetics on the internet did I actually start loving mineral make up, and realizing the difference between the brands.

Susan Posnick - Colorflo mineral foundation has only 9 ingredients, all of which are organic. It contains ingredients such as micronized zinc oxide which is used for it's skin rejuvenating properties on burn victims (It does wonders for my rosacea!) It also contains vitamins A, and E which are important vitamins for keeping the skin soft and supple.

The foundation is waterproof, and sweatproof which means it won't slide around on your face when you get hot like other brands which contain talc. (Bare Minerals)

ColorFlo also contains titanium dioxide, which is the most powerful, and natural sun protection available.

I loved the Susan Posnick line so much myself that I decided to carry the whole line in my boutique! It's a really practical functional line. It consists of the main things that we use every day, without all the junk we don't need that clutters the drawers. It's amazing, the stuff lasts forever, and it is the best thing I have found... and trust me, I have been looking.

I'm going to give you another recommendation as well, and this is for skin care. I want to recommend this brand because before I found it myself, my skin never looked so good! I haven't seen my skin this normal in years! It's seriosly amazing, and it's called Somme. Look it up online,

www.sommeinstitute.com

The line is pretty spendy, but I can attest it is worth the money, and all of the products last forever. Using this line is the closest my skin has ever been to completely healing. At one point I didn't even feel like IO HAD to wear makeup every day. I haven't felt like that since I was 12 yrs. old.

I hope this has been helpful!

Hi J.,
You have a lot of responses here with a lot of information to choose from.

With the small amount of information you have given us, it is difficult to get a good idea of what is truly going on for you.

Many times reactions to products have to do with your skin trying to detox from the products that you are using.

While there are many recommendations for make up to "cover up" your break outs, what you might really need is something to help with your internal "condition". What is happening on your skin is a symptom of something else that is going on internally.

That is something you may want to consider. If you have access to a good nutritional store, I would encourage you to consider going on a good probiotic. You can go to a natural food store or health food store, nutritional store and get a good probiotic. This could really help with your complexion.

I also sell a certified organic probiotic that you can purchase on my website: http://elyorganics.com/products/15101/

but you can also go to a good nutritional store and find a good probiotic.

In regards to the mineral make-ups. There are a lot of mineral make ups on the market. All mineral make-ups are not created equal. Without a doubt, most of the minerals on the market have Titanium Dioxide and many of them are also coated with dimethecone and other silicone derivatives.

Titanium Dioxide is an unstable ingredient and causes "free radicals" when it is exposed to sunlight, actually harmful for you skin.

The way many companies get around this is to coat their titanium dioxide with something, like aluminum, but they do not list this on their labels generally. You will not see that as an ingredient on their ingredients label.

So, all minerals are not created equal. If you are not bothered by this, then it may not be an issue for you.

I also sell mineral make-up that is free of any coatings and titanium dioxide. It is truly only minerals.
http://elyorganics.com/products/organic-mineral-makeup-co...

Here is the complete ingredients list:
Sericite Mica, Zinc Oxide, Organic Rose Otto Essential Oil, May Contain: +/- Iron Oxides

To my knowledge, this is the cleanest mineral make-up on the market today.

If you want to learn more about the issues of harmful chemicals in the products you use, you can learn more on the Environmental Working Group's skin deep database.

http://www.cosmeticdatabase.com

this is the MOST comprehensive database in the world in regards to rating products and their ingredients on safety.

This database is created by the Environmental Working Group, they are a non-profit based in the Washington DC area.

There are a lot of harmful chemicals in most cosmetic products on the market today. Claims of "natural" and "organic" are many times not true since there are no definitions for what these terms actually mean on cosmetic products. The cosmetic industry is a self regulated industry and they make their own rules. There are over 11,000 chemicals used in personal care/cosmetic products with only 10% of them being assessed for safety.

The only way to know if a cosmetic/personal care product is actually organic is to see a third party verification logo on the product, like the USDA organic logo. Also, without a FULL and COMPLETE ingredients list on the product label, you cannot verify if all the ingredients are "natural" or "organic".

I encourage everyone to educate themselves about this and look up their products and/or ingredients on the skin deep database....because what you are using and putting on your skin may actually not be what you think it is.

If you are interested in a good skin care regime that may help you with break outs I have included a regime for you below.

I have acne, which products should I use?

The Purifying Skin Essentials Pack: Cleanser, Skin Conditioner and Moisturizer, in combination with the Gentle Exfoliant, Purifying Mask and Purifying Blemish Gel. The daily regime should include:

1. Cleansing
(Exfoliating)
(Mask)
2. Skin Conditioning
3. Treatment with Blemish Gel
4. Moisturising

For the first week, include daily exfoliating and masking. For the second week exfoliate and mask every second day, for the third week every third day and so forth until you are exfoliating and masking just once or twice a week to keep the skin clear.

Depending on your individual health - metabolism, eating habits, and medications - some people experience a detoxification once they start using organic products. You may see a worsening of symptoms before things clear up. This means that your body is simply eliminating the toxins stored in your body over time. Human skin cells are renewed every 4-5 weeks, which should give a good indication of the possible duration of your 'detox'. The products should not dry your skin out

Purifying skin essentials pack:
http://elyorganics.com/products/19103/

Gentle Exfoliant:
http://elyorganics.com/products/11202/

Purifying Mask:
http://elyorganics.com/products/11303/

Purifying Blemish Gel:
http://elyorganics.com/products/11502/

The products I sell, are food grade certified organic ingredients. The price is what you should pay for a HIGH quality truly organic product.

These products are very concentrated and there are a lot of applications in each bottle. If you apply the products once a day, the cost of using the full line is about $3.00/day, which is about the cost of a good cup of coffee.

I also have an offer in the mom perks of 20% off if you are interested in this.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

E.

Mineral makeup might be an option for you. It's not supposed to be irritating if it only contains minerals. I found some on ebay that was pure minerals, and not very expensive. If you know what ingredients bother you, that could help you narrow down what kind to try. Some of the brands sold in drug stores and such (it seems like everyone is coming out with mineral makeup now) have talc and other non-mineral ingredients, which could be irritating. There are concealers as well that work as well as any liquid I've ever tried. I ran out of the stuff I got on ebay and got some Loreal (buy one get one on sale at walgreens) that has been working fine, but I think it does have talc - which doesn't bother me, but perhaps you'd be sensitive to it. The seller on ebay is Mineral Pure Makeup, and the prices are very reasonable (especially compared to what's on the infomercials). I've had major adult acne problems and scarring and such before (finally went through accutane last year) so the mineral makeup works well for me. Good luck.

What else do you use on your face? You might need a skin care line that is natural. Like Arbonne ( I use this and I have very sensitive/acne prone skin) or Origins. These lines also have make-up that is natural and does not contain animal by-products or mineral oils.

Hi J.~

I love mineral makeup!!!! I have the Loreal kind, and it is spendy ($10-$15 each), but well worth it! Another suggestion I have for you is to go to a dermatologist, and ask them. I went and had a microdermabrasion facial last year and they make their own mineral makeup to match your exact skin tone. Its wonderful! And compared to the ones on the infomercials, its alot more for your money, and its matched to your skin tone, like I said. I hope this helps you!

P.S. I have struggled with acne pretty much my whole life, and finally at 28 years old, I finally have it under control due to mineral makeup. Its very non-irritating and has wonderful coverage! Good luck!

The good thing about mineral makeups is that it doesnt carry any bacteria so you shouldnt have any more skin problems.

I have struggled with make-up, foundations in particular my whole life. I have combination skin, which means I break out on my forehead-nose area, and chin. Then my cheeks are dry. I have tried Lancome, Estee Lauder, Orgins, Clinique-and also the over the counter Lorel, Almay, Physicians Formula-almost everything. I started using Bare Esentials (Bare Minerals) last summer, and for the first time in my life, I haven't had any break outs. I get minimal break outs when I have PMS, but nothing like it was before. You can get it at Sephora in Alderwood Mall, or Nordstrom. I got a "starter kit" that came with the brushes, 2 different Mineral colors, the Mineral Veil and Warmth (which is the bronzer) for $60.00 It has been well worth the investment. It also came with instructions and an instructional DVD. It's the best thing I have ever bought and done for myself.

Hi J.,

I have really sensitive skin too (even now that I'm an adult)! I'm a level 0 on the sensitivity scale and have tried many different products. These are what currently work for me:

Avalon Organics facial care line for sensitive skin. It's fragrance free (no added fragrance) but the natural lavender is so yummy! I use the cleansing milk, exfolient, then witch hazel with rose water (from Thayer's) for toner, and finish with A.O. lotion with SPF.

For foundation I love bare minerals. It's the only foundation I've ever used that doesn't cause more breakouts.

I still have problems if I eat something I'm allergic too, but these products have helped immensely.

Hope this helps! Remember to try any new product one at a time for a steady two weeks.

Try Aloette Cosmetics it is Aloe Vera based, natural, botanital and the makeup made with minerals. It is the most technolocally advanced skin care available to the public. You can contact me and I can help you find someone in your area to let you try it. You can also earn free products by having a show if you want. Most consultants are not high pressure (they don't carry inventory) and they are more concerned with helping you find answers to your skin problems. My Mom and I have used it for over 15 years and started using it because my Mom's skin was so bad and it cleared her acne up very quickly. Plus she had large acne scars and they keep getting smaller. I've worked in the cosmetic business for 10+ years. I've seen it all and sold it all. The mineral makeups are great for sensitive skins but the coverage doesn't last all day. The minerals are absorbed by your skin requiring you to touch up mid day.

Most complexion problems are not caused by your foundation but by how you're taking care of your skin. How are you taking care of your skin now? If you wear foundation you need to wash your face every night with something that dissolves makeup. You still need moisture preferably with sunscreen regardless of your skin type--your skin needs it for a healthy oil/water balance. What brand you use depends on your skin. Are you oily/dry? Where do you break out? If you have really problematic skin, I've had lots of clients have really good luck with Proactive. If you're interested in trying the mineral makeups, I'd start with Bare Escentuals. Go to one of their counters (Nordstrom has a full counter at Clackamas and Washington Square), talk to an expert and try some on. Maybe have them help you figure out what's going on with your skin as well.

I have sensitive skin as well and used to break out frequently. For the last 3 years I have used Sheer Cover. I don't know if you have seen the infommercials. It was designed by a surgeon to help cover surgery scars, it has worked wonders on my face, I still have the occasional break out (acne) but they quickly go away. So it is suppose to be great for all types including sensitive skin. There are other products out there like Bare Minerals and now store bought powder foundations. I can tell you Sheer Cover hides any and ALL flaws though. I am told Mary Kay is great for sensitive skin as well, but I have had a reaction to their toner. I switched to a different one of theirs and was fine though. I am a Mary Kay consultant if you wanted to try that. They also make a powder foundation. I don't actively sell but I can get you product if you would like to try that. Good Luck!

Bare Minerals is wonderful. Before I got pregnant my skin freaked out for the first time and that was the only thing that did not make it worse. I also have a dear friend who had to have some laser treatments done on her face and it was one of the few things she could use as well. The main reason it is so great for the skin is cause there is not talc in it which for most people is the reason they break out.

J., I am almost alergic to everything out on the market. The only thing I have found I can use to clean my face is Clinique and the only place I go to get it is Nordstrom's. I have compared the counters and the techs there are always so nice and helpful. I even took my 13yr old neice and a few friends for her birthday for a make up party They showed the girls how to properly clean their faces and how to apply everyday make up without looking like a slut. Then we all went out to lunch with their new looks. My neice said it was her best party yet!.
I have never had a problem returning any make up there either. They put this little Nordstrom sticker on their stuff, and presto... how can I help you is their next question? If you live in the Vancouver WA area I love Lisa H. here at the mall. Like I said this is the only stuff I have found I can use and I have tried a lot growing up ing the pagent circut and reactions are the worst. The only other advice I can offer which is really weird is: Visine eye drops. They take the red away from break outs and zits. Good luck, C. B.

Have you tried Bare Escentuals (Bare Minerals)? I have Lupus and because of all the medications I take my skin is very sensative and VERY slow to heal from irritation and break-outs. I use the bare minerals make-up, it's in powder form, 100% natural ingredients, and doesn't clog your pores, I was worried I wouldn't get enough coverage, but it's really nice, at first you will think you don't have enough on because you don't feel anything, just wait for 20 minutes and look at your skin, you will be amazed. The bisque works great as a concealer! One other important note, when I started using it my face felt itchy, and I almost stopped using it, but then I realized it was my skin healing (like when you have a scratch/scab that heals-it itches) anyway I stuck it out for 5 days or so and it didn't itch anymore! I hope this helps, we moms have enough to worry about!

Hello J.,

I am an Avon representative. I have noticed that their make up doesn't cause my eyes to sting like every other make up I have tried. We have mineral, age transforming, long wearing, and mousse enriched with moisture. These combined with a good moisturizer might help. There is a botanical moisturizer that I love among other age defying ones. We also have blemish blasting team of products for when you do break out. These products are on sale a lot and even when they aren't on sale they are usually less than their counterparts in the store. If you would like to try some let me know.

Try mineral makeup. Everyday Minerals is a good honest company that has reasonable prices. They have free samples so you can try before you buy. Check out the web site and all of the ingredient for your self. I don't want to sound like a commercial, and I want you to know that I am not selling it. They have a zinc based foundation that covers well and zinc will help clear up acne. I also have sensitive skin and break out easily. I don't use anything but water to cleanse, and a little apricot oil to remove eye makeup. I make my own facial serum(will be available on Etsy soon)that helps moisturize and keep skin clear. I don't have acne anymore, I hope this helps. Acne is an awful thing to have to live with.
oh yah....and don't drink too much coffee or soda, drink water...that helps too.

J., Where to start, I am sure you don't "need" foundation, you just prefer it! The best thing is to get a little sun, and not use any, but if you feel you need to, try washing your face with warm/hot water, and then splash rinse well with real cold water, this will help close your pores and allow less of the makeup in, but I reinterate, when you can, go without it, your face needs to breath, just like the rest of your skin! I used to wear make-up all the time when I was younger, but not so much anymore, I am 49, and moderate sun, and no perfume soaps, does a great job of keeping it fresh! I am sure you are beautiful with or without it, so have a great life and enjoy it!! R.

Try the Bare Minerals (at Bare Escentuals stores or online)cosmetics! They have made my skin so soft, and are intended for people with sensitive skin. You can find them at the Bare Escentuals store in Bellevue Square, or any Sephora carries their products too. Can bit a little spendy, but lasts a long time and well worth it! ;-) I had minor acne issues, and have not had a problem since using this product. Best wishes!

Hi J.,

I have always had break out prone skin and I have had great luck with using Bare Minerals makeup. I also will hardly ever go anywhere without foundation and the Bare Minerals powder foundation is amazing. I get it at Nordstrom or online at Nordstrom.com you can find it under Bare Escentuals in the beauty section.

I never thought I could wear a powder foundation but the coverage is amazing especially when the powder concealer is used with it.

Good luck!

If you haven't tried them, I could get you in touch with a consultant in your area who can help you find the products that will work best for your sensitive skin. All Mary Kay prducts are formulated for sensitive skin. The new mineral powder foundation is fantastic and is very light, while giving great coverage, so it doesn't complicate breakouts. Best of all, Mary Kay has a 100% satisfaction guarantee so, if you try something and it doesn't work, you can exchange it for something that will work or get your money back!!! You know, J., this is a case of try and try again. I am a Beauty Advisor with Avon. Here are our products that will certainly help you.

First your skin is not "sensitive" if it is prone to acne breakouts...It is simply oily. As you age, you will be very grateful for your oily skin, you will age less quickly than those with less oil glands! If you treat the oil levels first, then you will have less problems with the make up you choose. There are great acne fighting products such as "Immediate Response Cleanser" When you are cleansing your skin (2X a day of course!!) be sure to use your hands only, or a gentle cleansing cloth designed for the face. Anything abrasive, such as a washcloth can stimulate oil glands and worsen breakouts.

Choose your make up carefully. We sell a Minerals Powder foundation that my customers with oily skin are loving. We also have an Oil-Free Buildable Coverage that works great for oily skin too. It comes in a compact..so they are two very different applications, depending on which you prefer.

Feel free to e-mail me for a brochure, or you can visit my website.

Dear J., My two daughters and I, have the exact same problem! As I have gotten older I find that I am able to use a wider variety now, but my 29 year old and 20 year old daughters can only use Estee Lauder's Fresh Air make-up base. A dermatologist told me about this product back in the mid 1970's, and it is the best! My older daughter loves it, and my younger daughter can ONLY use it. Anything else burns her skin. It smells wonderful, and it's a water-base foundation. By the way, a good foundation is actually good for your skin, so don't let anyone tell you that you shouldn't wear any. I remember hearing the same thing from everyone, but NOT the dermatologist! He was a savior! Good luck to you, S. Teague

Hi there,

I am not sure what you are using on your skin now, if you are cleansing and moisturizing...but as someone said earlier it is essential that you take care of your skin first. You could be allergic to one ingredient in a foundation or something you are using, it could be a dye. As someone said earlier Mary Kay has various skin care lines that meet everyone's needs as well as a line of New Mineral Foundations, powders, shadows, bronzers, etc. Plus, they still have 4 other types of foundations from cream to liquid that fit various needs and skin types. Any Independent Beauty Consultant can give you a complimentary facial and makeover in your home or theirs. Also, if it is something that you are being treated for ie rosacea, dermatitis, etc MK has a medical relations department that can help determine what to use or not use on your skin. I don't know where you live, but you can visit my web site or the general one to find a consultant in your area. You can also look in your local yellow pages for a director in your area, under Beauty. I'm from Oregon and here are the web sites.

I used to have the same problem and finally found Clinique Superbalanced liquid foundation. It is oil-free and ph-balanced. I also found that it is not just the foundation that contributes to break-out, having a good cleanser and moisturizer are also important. I have had good luck with Clean & Clear Morning burst Facial Cleanser (liquid) - I use it in the shower. At night time, I use Neutrogena make-up remover wipes - they remove all the make-up and also contain oil-free moisturizers. For daytime moisturizer, Clean & Clear oil-free moisturizer with spf15 and another great one that I use underneath that on my cheeks and around my eyes is: Clinique Extra Moisture surge (it is oil free) and it really boosts the moisture in your skin. This all said, your skin might not like thse products either. I have a friend who can only use Dermologica or Proactiv. she tried everything and has had the best luck with the Proactiv line of products. Good luck!

I have a cheap, easy fix for you. Mix pure olive oil and salt into a paste. Add a tablespoon of honey. Put mixture on your face for 3 minutes - don't rub or mess with it, just put it on like a mask.

Rinse off with warm water. Do this 5 days in a row, NO pimples. I promise.

Use Bare Minerals or similar mineral powder foundation to cover up blemishes during the day.

J.,
My skin is sensitive to EVERYTHING. I tried that Proactive stuff and I had a MAJOR allergic reaction.
I take medications (not for acne) that constantly make me break out. This will be a part of me for the rest of my life.
I don't wear makeup because it makes my skin worse. I hate the blemishes, but it beats red irritated skin that itches and hurts.
What I use is Neutrogena soap for acne prone skin. It comes in a bar. Their face wash is terrible, so I would stay away from that. The soap helps dry out the acne and I have had fewer breakouts and when I do, they go away with in a couple of days. The downfall to this product is it drys out my skin even though I have combo skin. To help with the days that are dry, I use CANUS brand Goat's Milk Soap for sensitive skin in the yellow and green box. I get it at New Seasons. It is not drying like the Neutrogena and works well.
I went with the Neutrogena until my acne was under control, then went to the Goat soap.
As far as cosmetics, check with New Season's, they should have some type of natural foundation that will not block your pores or irritate your skin.
I wish you the best of luck.

You should try one of the mineral foundations. Bare Minerals is the best, but AVON has one that is very similar. The ones you get in the drugstore *Maybellene and Revlon* still have addatives. The other two are purely minerals that are actually good for your skin and they give great coverage too.
I have used both and I like both. Bare Minerals is just a little more expensive. AVON is well priced at about $8 for a month supply. If you are interested in the AVON you can go to www.youravon.com/kswenson to check it out. (That is my website. I can also help with the breakouts if your interested.) You can get Bare Minerals at Macy's or ULTA. Good luck!
