Skin Rash at 7 Months Pregnant

About a month or two ago, I noticed my abdomen under my right breast was extremely itchy almost until the point where it was numb, but I ignored this until about 3 weeks ago when a small, pink, dry raised area appeared where I was itching. I asked my OB about it, but he said not to worry. Now a week after I noticed it appearing, it has spread to a larger area. I've used a calming lotion that contains menthol, but it doesn't seem to work. For those of you who were wondering, I am having a boy, and this is my first pregnancy. Is this common? And much more important, does anyone know what this could be?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

A little after a week or so, this started to fade and disappear. The itching finally went away as well. I stopped wearing the bra I was currently using, because it was getting uncomfortable. Maybe this had something to do with it? I still don't know exactly what it was, but I hope it doesn't come back!

Look into PUPPPS. I developed this only in my 5th pregnancy. They treated it with Prednisone. Good luck.

I would tell you to go to a dermotologist. The ob/gyn does not deal with skin issues and may not know what it is. You could have a heat rash or a yeast infection. My fiancee had one where our bikini line would be and also had it under his underarms. He went to the derm. and her prescribed him some cream which gave him relief and it cleared up in a few weeks. Try an oatmeal bath or may be some benedryll cream or hydrocortisone cream. The heat and being pregnant does not help.Good luck

Hi, V.:
I got some friendly bacteria capsules, opened them up and rubbed
the contents under my breast and the condition went away after a few days.
The rash comes from moisture under the breast. Keep talcum powder under the
breasts to keep them dry during the summer months.
Hope this helps. Good luck. D.

I had PUPPP about that time in my pregnancy ended up covering from my belly to my knees. The only thing that worked for me was Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap. I found it at a natural food market. It smells funny, but it really worked. I took two showers a day to use it and then put on aveeno anti-itch lotion after. Good luck!

Google PUPPS. It happens in late pregnancy and can be very frustrating. I had it for about a week, and it happened mostly when I napped or slept, for some reason. VERY itchy. I've heard that pine tar soap is supposed to be very helpful. They will special order it for you at Whole Foods.

Good luck,

Sounds like PUPPP. Hydrocortisone cream, oatmeal baths, and keeping your skin cool and dry are most helpful. It is a condition of pregnancy, usually beginning in the 3rd trimester, and goes away soon after delivery.

I agree with others that it sounds like PUPPPs. I had that with my first pregnancy for a few weeks and then it went away. I used Gold's medicated powder to relieve the itching and took Aveeno Oatmeal baths. Eventually (after about 3 weeks or a month) it went away.

Are you having a boy? I read that it is very common with baby boys - something about reacting to the baby's hormones. I did end up having a baby boy. With the birth of my second son, I ended up getting that same rash after he was born - very odd.

Hope you feel better soon! I remember it being extremely itchy and bothersome and reading that the only cure was giving birth (yikes!), but thankfully mine went away well before that, so there is hope.

It can also be just from your skin stretching. Your bra probably rubs a whole new way now..I know that mine does! Also, look into all that you are using that comes in contact with your skin. (i.e. laundry detergent...soap...everything) When we are pregnant, our skin becomes MUCH more sensitive than usual. For instance, any kind of deodorant that I try makes my underarms itch like crazy!! Hope this helps :)

I didn't read the other responses, so hopefully I'm not being redundant. I broke out in a rash about a month after I had my 2nd child, and I've never really figured out what caused it, except to say that it was hormonal. Like you, ironically enough, it started under one of my breasts, but ended up on my stomach, and my upper legs. It itched so bad that at night I had to ice my legs to keep from clawing them. I tried every cream I could think of b/c I was breastfeeding and my derm was hesitant to prescribe any oral remedies. However, after dealing with it for 1.5 months, I did my research and found out that it was safe to take Prednisone while nursing, so my derm prescribed it for me. That was what did it. It took about another week for it to fully go away, but let me tell you, there was no relief like it!! Also, I switched to "free" detergent, which helped with my new-found skin sensitivity. So, long story short, get it under control ASAP before it gets as bad as mine did. The longer you have it, the harder it can be to kick. I've talked to other moms since who also dealt with rashes during/after pregnancy due to the hormonal shifts.

Sounds like the yeast infection I got under my boobs (that grew 5 sizes!) While pregnant and afterward. OB put me on anti-fungal cream that helped for a day or two, then it came raging back. After 2yrs (my boobs never shrank after nursing), I put coconut oil on it (its an anti-fungal). It was gone in 3 days and hasn't returned in 4mos.

Good luck!!!
