The Truth About Hair Products

I prefer to use Matrix in the orange bottle, but I color my hair every 4-6 weeks (a good friend is the stylist so it is not to expensive $40 or so) and I also flat iron my hair everyday(I do also use the purple bottle which is made for colored hair but I don't like it as much!!!) The times that I run out of shampoo and buy the cheap stuff (ie: sunsilk, herbal essence) My hair just doesn't have the same silky feeling that it has when I use my Martix. Now I do however usually buy it at Target, and I have been told it is not gaurenteed by the company. I have never had a problem when using these and so far I seem to have the same results.

As for the Pantene thing I have been told that also, and I have to agree!!! I guess if you don't do a whole lot of coloring, drying, curling, or flat ironing you might not need to worry to much about what kind of shampoo you use. But if you do a lot of any of these I would recommend using something a little more expensive.

This is all just from my personal experience, I have had my hair cut to the bottom of my chin and as long as 3 inches below my bra strap (oh and about any color you could possibly think of!!!). No matter the length I still feel the same way about the shampoo's.

I have been a licensed cosmetologist for 8 years, and worked in a salon for 5 of those years. I stand by professional products because I have seen the difference in my hair as well as others hair I have done. Like other posters have said, if you keep your hair trimmed and don't put any chemicals on it then the cheap store stuff should be okay. Maybe just get one bottle of professional clarifying shampoo to use after swimming because of the chlorine.

As long as you can get the products on sale I don't see how they could be that much more expensive because with these products a little goes a long way. You can use half the amount of professional products vs. the cheap stuff. Like others said, the cheap stuff is watered down.

But if you have no problems with what you are using and your hair is healthy then stick with your $2 shampoo.

The truth is, I love the sunsilk products, and noone gets a commission for selling me those! LOL! I understand that about the hair, mine is almost to my waist, but you can get split ends from your hair rubbing against your collar, so just keep it trimmed, and don't dye it. I really have found that Sunsilk works for me, but you may have to try a few different things before you find what works for you. Good luck!

I personally notice a difference when I use professional products vs. other ones. If you're happy with what you currently use, then stick with that! I know that I wasn't happy, and have since found products, which happen to be salon products, that do what I want to my hair.

I think they are just trying to sell their products - I've never heard this...

This is just from my experience. I bought a product for my hair at the grocery store that was working fine at smoothing and straightening my hair. The last time I went to the salon, my salon artist (what are they called now?) used a different product that seemed to work really great for her at smoothing out the frizz even easier. I bought it (it was about $15 <gasp!>) and used it a couple times. Not only did I not get the same result, but it caused so much buildup in my hair that my hair got very greasy at the roots and I had a bunch of smelly gunk on my scalp. I'll stick with my CHEAPER store bought stuff. (Granted it's the more expensive stuff at the grocery, but at least it didn't build up in my hair.)
