Thongs or Underwear?

Good evenin ladies! I need ya'll's help on a lil issue I'm having here.. I heard some younger ladies talking about how much more comfy it is to wear a thong and not have to worry about underwear lines showing through and what not. So now it got me thinking, am I missing somethin? Should I give it a shot? I've alway worn control top plus size briefs, but as I get older I'm feelin a bit more feisty, more like i want to let things hang loose. so what do y'all think? Would a thong even work on a big woman like myself? Do they come in control top?

Thanks y'all for helpin BigmamaJ out!

What can I do next?

From one big mama to another...

Neither!

I hate underwear. Always gettin' tied up in places it shouldn't be. Shifting around and causing problems.

Go commando! That's REALLY letting it all hang loose! Comfy too.

They really irritate the hiney crack by rubbing and digging in. I don't like that feeling, maybe I would get used to it but seriously, I'd go get some lacy see sheer pretty panties instead.

YOLO--You Only Live Once...go for it.

I've never seen control top thongs...hmm...that would be a wonderful invention...might make you some big bucks. Victoria's Secret carries the cutest thongs. If you sign up with Victoria's, you will get a card in the mail every few months for free underwear..so worth it!

Thongs all the way. I'm not sure about you being a plus size woman if they'd work out, but I do agree about the underwear lines not only showing through but also digging into my butt cheeks when I sit down on a chair or a hard surface.
Not to mention having to pull them out of your butt. That is a much more uncomfortable feeling to me.
I'd maybe try some lacy boy shorts too, it's not as far of a transition as the thong. Maybe take it slowly, going from control top briefs to thongs is a big change.
ETA: I can't even feel the thong strap in my butt. I know some are saying its like a wedgie, but to me it's like a tampon: It sounds uncomfortable at first, but once it's in you don't even feel it! Lol

LOL! There have been many threads here about thongs vs panties. What I will tell you is that it's a choice. With thongs, in the winter your butt cheeks will be cold. A thong also will sit low, like an inch or so above your pubic hair line. Kristina is right that there is no control top with thongs, but most panties don't have control top either. You can wear spanx over a thong and that would help with the control top issue.

If you try a thong, make sure that you don't get one that is all cotton - the cotton will make you sore. The wide lace that comes up on your hips is nice - don't get one with spagetti strings - that will show through your clothes.

I would recommend that you go to the store and try them on to make sure that they fit, rather than buying them online. And just know that when you get them home and really wear them, it may take a little while to get used to the thong part, but after a while, IF the thong is the right size for you, you won't notice that it's there. Make sure that you hang them to dry instead of putting them in the dryer. Also, put them in a little garment bag to wash if you wash them in the washing machine so that they don't get caught in the drum.

Not too many answers from big woman.... so here I go..(LOL)
I do not wear thongs everyday, but for me when I am going out or want to feel a bit sexy for my man, I will wear my thongs or tangas. The ones I buy are from Lane Bryant. They make theirs with a very stretchy comfortable material, and they do have a bit more room in the stomach area because they know they are making them for bigger woman. My Man loves them. I also highly recommend the tanga. It is a boy short style, but cut in half, so half your booty sticks out. My Honey finds those more sexy, and Lane Bryant makes them in a stretchy lace material. More comfortable than the thong, and just as sexy. Also since I know Lane Bryant is not the most affordable place to shop, I get Lucky at times at Ross or DD's Disounts. They usually have cute cheeky shorts (tangas) by XOXO up to 3X, once in a while you might find a thong or two. Good luck panty shopping!

I am 59 (60 in Oct) yrs young, danced in my younger days so I alwayz wore a 'T-Bar' aka 'thong' I am used to it & I love them, I CANNOT abide, 'Granni Panties'. I have a tummy issue, too many surgeries & simply being 'fluffy'. I buy my thongs from either Fredricks or in a '3 pack' from any Dept store, I don't know what your weight actually is but I am in a size 7 or 8 in unders, you have to pay attention to the front of the garment, it has to be 'high', if it is then it won't ride down under the tummy, that only happens when either you don't put the garment on correctly or you are wearing a size too small for you. I love the way boy shorts look but the way I am built I can't wear them cuz' they crawl into my front & back crevices, no matter what size I try.

This is a personal choice, check it out...

I wear whatever I happen to pull out of my drawer - thongs, boy shorts, basic undies... sometimes I'll chose one over the other depending on what I'm wearing. I even wear boxers some times!

The biggest problem I've had with thongs is that if they aren't made right, they are NOT comfortable. Some of them are too thick in the back strap if you know what I mean... and you can completely feel it. I've thrown those ones away ASAP. Go for something minimalist in the back - but from what Jillian B said, I would go with her suggestions too. I am not a bigger woman.

I also want to say, re: heather L P. I'm not a bigger girl but my butt is curvy and no where near smooth and tight, but I've never had problems with it looking funny in fabrics. If you're wearing the right size pants, this shouldn't be a problem. You aren't going to wear a thong with everything and I'd hope you or anyone else would have common sense to check their bum before they leave the house! I do, I get scared I'll stuff the back of my dress in my panties...

Point is, I doubt you need a smooth and tight bum for a thong. If that were the case no one would wear them unless they were photo shopped.

No, they do not come in control top, if you want a sexier feel then go boi/boy shortys spelling depends on the brand and typically no other undie comes in a control top aside from breifs. I go with plain white cottons unless I am wearing something fitted then I go with all lace (no lines if high quality) and or boi shorts (again no lines if high quality). When I was young I wore them because I could but realized how uncomfortable they really were as I aged. If you are plus sized as well, they will roll under what ever belly buldge you have and be VERY annoying. So, unless you are slender/have flat(ish) tummy do not go there. There are PLEANTY of panty options that are "no lines" that actually work, you may have to invest in a few really good pair and only wear them when needed.

I only wear thongs. I am not fat, but I do have a round, full backside. Panytlines would make my butt look homely while the thong does not. I don't think they make control top thongs though. What you need to know is that a tight thong is very uncomfortable. You have to go one or 2 sizes up so I reccomend that you go to a plus size store like Lane Bryant to get a thong. I wear a size 10 pants and I have to get extra large at Victoria's Secret so that it is cofortable for me.

I used to wear thongs, but stopped when my butt cheeks kept getting chaffed from my uniform pants at work! Also, with a young teenage girl in the house, I figured it was easier to remove temptation before she got the idea that it's ok for me, so it should be ok for her, too.

i am shocked at how many extol the comfort of thongs!
it almost makes me want to check them out.
:X
i just can't imagine how they'd be more comfy than thin lycra/cotton panties. but it's true, them puppies do have a line, and can bunch uncomfortably.
i'm most comfy commando but really only do that when i'm home. and in summer i rarely wear clothes at all.
i just can't imagine how it would be comfy to have something in yon buttcrack! in my mind it's like a permanent wedgie.

I wear both. I'm not a size 0- 4 like most of Orange County. I LOVE thongs. I started to wear them during pregnancy, when my butt got so big that I figured a little piece of material is FAR more comfortable than the entire rear of the underwear shoved in my butt.

I ONLY like the thongs from Target. Gillian & ______ are THE best. Then I use String Bikinis from Lane Bryant. It depends on my mood and what I am wearing. I HATE an underwear line, so with jeans, I usually wear thongs. With sweats, the bikinis keep things a little more tame, if you know what I mean! LOL
