Torticollis - Indianapolis,IN

what about a chiropractor. My step son took his ddaughter to one when she had it and now she's 2 and doesn't have the lean going on. :)

Please try to stop worrying! My son had torticollis at his 6 month and we didn't take him to physical therapy because our insurance didn't cover it. I worked with him at home and within weeks he was fine. I mostly massaged his neck ( the side that was shorter)and stretched his neck out to lengthen the muscles. I did this several times a day, even while he took a bottle. Now he is perfectly fine and you would never know he had it.

My daughter had severe torticollis and resulting plagiocephaly. She was in PT starting at 8 weeks and also wore a helmet. Even with all the PT and stretching at home, she was still slower to meet some of her milestones so she received services from Early Intervention until she was 3. At 3 years old, she was caught up and no longer needed any therapy, and now is a lively first grader. I remember worrying just like you are, but you are doing the best thing for your little one by going to PT and doing tummy time and stretches at home. She will get caught up; she will just have to work a little harder at it, but she sure is lucky to have a great mommy to help her!

I know you are sad and worried and I would be too, however with PT you are going to see amazing results and they will also give you things to do at home. If you are consistent with at home therapy and PT you will see a major improvement. I have seen babies respond from therapy almost immediately and have absolutely no issues down the line. I know your worried, who wouldn't be but it is going to be okay. Fortunately, with PT and early intervention children are getting help early and are completely fine and where they need to be developmentally in no time. Hugs to you and try not to worry!!

I don't have specific torticollis stories, but I do have physical delays stories! My son was developmentally delayed and didn't walk until he was 3! He was such a floppy baby and tummy time was pretty much like you described with him laying there not doing anything and me feeling bad. I took him to PT for 4 years. I just wanted you to know that even kids with delays can catch up! He is 6 now and he just won't stop!! You'd never believe that he didn't walk until he was 3 when you see him now!

Good luck and keep doing what you are doing! Sounds like you are taking in what the PT is saying and carrying it on at home! That's Wonderful!

My nephew had torticollis, he worked with a PT and had a helmet to help his head shape to be round. He's now 2 and a half and completely normal in his motor skills and developments! Just work with your little one, follow the PT's and docs advice, and watch her grow and thrive!

My daughter had it. Her pediatrician recommended that I roll up a blanket to prop her up when she was in her car seat and lay her down on the opposite side of her tilt. He also recommended that we hold her so that gravity pulled her head down the other way (I hope that makes sense). You can also massage her neck to help loosen the muscles. We also took her to a chiropractor, but some people aren't comfortable with that.

We were never told that she might have a motor delay. The main issue for us was flat head. But she's fine. She has a beautiful head, and she's hit all her gross motor milestones. Don't worry, mama. Your baby will be fine.

My son was diagnosed with torticollis at 4 months also. He was born with several major problems because of the way he was in my uterus. He did not flip or turn for the last 2 months in utero and preferred a certain spot inside of me. This caused his face to be smushed, his jaw to be underdeveloped on one side, a hematoma on his head, a thin spot on his skull(they were afraid a piece of skull was missing!) and his skull was soft. After it has been all said and done he is 11 years old and every issue was resolved with nothing more than the therapy for his torticollis. The therapist was unable to do the therapy(he screamed every time he was touched-he has sensory issues) so I did it at home myself. It worked very quickly for us with just a few minor adjustments in our routine. I used a rolled up washcloth to prop his head up from his neck. I would change which way I changed him on the changing table or floor so he would be forced to look at me from the other side. Small things like that. He didn't miss any milestones. He never liked tummy time either and I really didn't force him to do it except for the bare minimum. My son loved reaching for things when he was sitting or lying down on his back so he did excercise his neck, just not facing down. He never used a helmet or anything else either:) It will get better, hang in there!

I was sooo in your shoes when my son had tort. I remember being upset and worried---like, all the time. I thought of how it's something so benign, compared to what some kids go through, but it was still a struggle. There seemed to be no support for parents who were worried about it--like it was nothing. I found a good support board on Yahoo. After a year of PT, it finally resolved. My son was close to needing a helmet (band) but he finally was able to sit up/do tummy time so he eventually got the pressure off of his head. Sometimes, I look at his face and see some asymmetry but not any more than most people have. I hear you. You are allowed to be upset about something that most people think is nothing.

chiropractic, for torticollis and gerd! I've seen it help many babies, and is what I would do for mine if they have either, especially if they had both!

my son had severe tort. they kept telling me it'd solve itself (which it never does) and so he didnt get into therapy until 8 months. he had a flat spot too that needed a helmet because the tort wasn't resolved. he didn't start rolling over till 9 months, crawling til 10, and walking at 12. since you got it early, i'm sure she'll be closer to what other babies are. the stretches helped him so much :) i dont think he would be at his milestones without it. hes 14 months old now and its mostly gone.
