Try sites like Groupon, Guilt, living social deals, Rue lala, Amazon deals, Dealchicken, vacationstogo.com - there are lots of these sites. Some have great deals. Just read the fine print. Groupon costs are usually per person.

Be very careful when doing this yourself and going through discounters.

If you are not used to booking travel, it would be best to go through an agent who can make sure all the i's are dotted and t's crossed correctly. A simple error can cost you dearly....non refundable deals, etc.

I book travel all the time because we travel a lot with our company and family. I never use a discounter because those who do are usually the first to be bumped when there is over crowding, over sold flights and hotels.

I book directly with our preferred airlines, hotels and car agencies. You can get good deals on airline sites but you still MUST be very diligent about reading ALL the fine print.

An old co-worker had great luck going through Unitedvacations.com. I know other airlines also offer full vacation packages. I also know that all inclusive vacation spots can include airfare, but be careful. When I was booking my Disney Cruise, Disney would include airfare, but it was almost $700 a person ( a lot for a family of 5). I ended up getting a great deal through Frontier and Jet Blue (also maybe helpful to use different airlines, and I got all 5 of us to fly for $710. I ended up booking my cruise through Costco.com. It was the cheaper going through Disney, and I will get a $190 gift card to Costco after my trip. Costco also does deals. If you are not a member, it maybe worth the $55 to become a member to save money. I have heard equally good and bad experiences from using a travel site. I've never used them myself as I often find the airfare to be cheaper going directly through the airlines. I know Southwest is running a vacation sale right now, got the email today.

Yep, be very careful about fine print and especially about cancellation policies and date change policies. You can lose everything if you have to cancel, unless you purchase travel insurance that lets you recover some of the cost of the trip if you have to cancel it all. (You won't get back 100 percent, that's certain.) I know people who have had success with Travelocity and we have booked hotel plus airplane with them (but nothing else, not tours or other "package" stuff) and it was fine.

Americans aren't all that used to buying travel cancellation insurance; I think it's more widely known about and purchased in other parts of the world because we travel in England a lot and everyone there recommends getting it.

I have booked airline tickets, hotels and car reservations all online. I have never had a problem with any of them. I have used Travelocity, Priceline, Hotels.com, Orbits and AAA. I get my airline tickets from the airline sites. I have never booked a total package through a site, but I agree with other posters...Always read every bit of fine print and get the travelers insurance. Read the fine print on that too. The last insurance I got covered illness and bad weather, but not war or terror related issues, which may be important for volatile destination areas.
